    Abstract: A pneumatic tire for a motor vehicle has a tread band having at least two longitudinal grooves which divide it into a plurality of circumferential ridges, and a series of circumferentially spaced axial grooves which divide the two outermost ridges into blocks. The edges of the inner ridges are provided with blind, oblique slits, all inclined in the same sense with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire. The slits are substantially parallel to one another and are preferably offset with respect to each other.

    Abstract: A method for repairing heavy-duty tires which have experienced separation at the intersection between the tread and sidewall is provided. The method comprises the steps of removing the loose rubber surrounding the separated area, buffing the area to a smooth finish, applying a rubber adhesive to the buffed area, firmly applying a blanket of uncured rubber of approximately one-half inch thickness to the buffed area and curing the rubber to the carcass. Alternatively, a thin blanket of tread rubber may be applied over a thin blanket of cushion gum to a total thickness of applied rubber of approximately one-half inch.

    Abstract: A tire repair patch having at least one ply package enveloped by an unvulcanized base cushion gum layer and an unvulcanized top cushion gum layer joined at the edges of the ply package. The overlapping plies of reinforcing cords in the ply package are coated with rubber and are at least partially vulcanized prior to assembly of the patch to increase the strength of the patch and decrease the curing time upon application to a tire.The patch is made by coating the plies with rubber, laying the plies one on top of the other to form the ply package, heating the package to cure the rubber coating and then positioning the ply package between the unvulcanized cushion gum layers. An unvulcanized intermediate cushion gum layer may be positioned between two ply packages where there is more than one ply package in the patch.

    Abstract: Metal cross chains are interconnected on the inboard side by an inboard rope connector and on the outboard side by an outboard rope connector. Each interconnection of a rope connector with a cross chain includes a combined rope-to-cross chain connecting link and rope clamping ring and rope connector adjustment device having a substantially V-shaped wire body with a loop formed at each end of the V. One of the end loops is firmly clamped to the rope connector and the other one of the loops partially surrounds and slidably engages the rope connector and is open sufficiently to permit the rope to be slipped out of that loop. A collar is clamped to the rope at a position to maintain a loop in the rope between the two connecting link loops when the collar is inside the slidably engaged loop, and to permit the rope loop to be released when the collar is positioned outside of the slidably engaged connecting link loop.

    Abstract: A process for fixing wear-resistant armoring tiles to cement mortar. In accordance with the process, the back sides of the tiles are coated with a mixture of polyester epoxy resin composition including sand and quartz or sand powder, with a curing agent. A material having an affinity for the cement mortar (like quartz sand or lavalite) is dusted and rolled into the coated back side of the tiles, so as to thoroughly be mixed up with the resin mixture coating. After the hardening of the coating including the material having affinity to cement mortar, the tiles are embedded in the cement mortar. Accordingly, this process substantially eliminates the well known poor adhesive properties of such tiles with respect to cement mortar.

    Abstract: A method of making pile material comprising pile strands or the like arranged in side-by-side relation, and a backing member bonded to the strands, the method comprising the steps of providing a bundle of pile strands, the strands extending in side-by-side relation and being held in pressurized engagement with each other by a wrapper surrounding the strands, cutting the bundle including the wrapper into slices, and positioning each slice in a form having a wall surrounding the slice and spaced outwardly thereof. The wrapper is removed from the slice, thereby allowing the pile strands to expand laterally outwardly into engagement with the wall of the form for being held by the form. A backing member is thereafter bonded to the pile strands on one face of the slice.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for planarizing a non-uniform thickness of oxide, for example silicon dioxide as is formed over oxide-filled trenches used in deep dielectric isolation in integrated circuits. The oxide is removed by a planarizing resist-etching process so that etching in thicker resist areas proceeds at a rate slower than etching in thinner resist areas. A referred etchant is HF gas and etching is preferably at an elevated temperature.
