  • Patent number: 4902696
Abstract: Herein is described an ocular composition comprising an ocular decongestant such as phenylephrine and certain labdane derivatives which are intraocular pressure lowering agents. The composition not only markedly reduces the ocular reddening otherwise produced by such labdane compounds, but also unexpectedly prolongs and frequently potentiates their intraocular pressure lowering effect. Both of these effects are very beneficial to the use of such labdanes for the treatment of glaucoma.

  • Patent number: 4902661
Abstract: Diphenylamine which is unsubstituted or substituted by alkyl or alkoxy groups can be prepared by treating appropriately substituted dicyclohexylamine with 1-10 bar of H.sub.2 over catalysts containing 0.05-5% by weight of rhodium at 250.degree.-450.degree. C. In addition to rhodium, the catalysts contain at least one other platinum metal from the group consisting of palladium, platinum and iridium on a support containing the noble metals in a total amount of 0.05-5% by weight, the percentage by weight of rodium with respect to all noble metals being 10-90%, and furthermore containing additives of 1-6% by weight of an alkali metal hydroxide and 1-6% by weight of an alkali metal sulphate. All percentages are based on the total weight of the catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4900531
Abstract: A process for converting in depth a carbon or graphite preform object to a silicon carbide object, silicon carbide/silicon object, silicon carbide/carbon-core object, or a silicon carbide/silicon/carbon-core object, by contacting it with silicon liquid and vapor over various lengths of contact time in a reaction chamber. In the process, a stream comprised of a silicon-containing precursor material in gaseous phase below the decomposition temperature of said gas and a coreactant, carrier or diluent gas such as hydrogen is passed through a hole within a high emissivity, thin, insulating septum into the reaction chamber above the melting point of silicon. The thin septum has one face below the decomposition temperature of the gas and an opposite face exposed to the reaction chamber. Thus, the precursor gas is decomposed directly to silicon in the reaction chamber. Any stream of decomposition gas and any unreacted precursor gas from the reaction chamber is removed.

  • Patent number: 4885424
Abstract: A process for the production of alkylaromatic hydrocarbons uses a light hydrocarbon recycle to reduce the costs of separating an unreacted aromatic feed substrate from aromatic hydrocarbon products. Unreacted aromatic substrate is combined with a light hydrocarbon, such as propane, to form a combined effluent stream. The combined effluent stream enters a flash separator where unreacted aromatic substrate is lifted overhead with the light hydrocarbon while heavier aromatic products are recovered below. The aromatic substrate and light hydrocarbon are easily separated in a simple separation zone. Lifting the aromatic substrate with the light hydrocarbon reduces the volume of aromatic substrate that remains with the aromatic product so that the more energy intensive separation of the aromatic substrate and aromatic product is performed on a reduced volume of material.
