  • Patent number: 5219424
Abstract: A roll of plastic bags is wound on an axle which is adapted to be retained within a dispensing device. The bags may be of any configuration but, preferably, are of the type known as a star seal with individual bags separated by perforated separation lines. The bags are wound around a core which can be retained on the axle so that the roll can rotate with respect to the axle when the axle is fixed within the dispensing device. A slot is provided in each separation line between adjacent bags, the slot adapted to engage a complementary tongue in the dispensing device for separating the individual bags. The width of the roll is such relative to the tongue that when an individual bag has been separated from the roll, portions of the next bag on the roll extend forwardly of the tongue where they are in a position to be grasped by a user and subsequently severed from the roll. The roller may include a feature for retarding rotation of the roll of bags relative to the axle.

  • Patent number: 5216797
Abstract: A bale debanding method and apparatus comprising a band breaking blade, a band winding mandrel and a mandrel cleaning plate are mounted to a frame. A support table is attached to the frame for receiving a waste paper bale that is held together by banding material. As the bale is moved past the band breaking blade, a band retention notch engages a band and by stretching it breaks the band. Once a band is broken, an extensible band catch extending out of the mandrel contacts the band and facilitates the band in being wound around the mandrel. Once all of the bands have been removed from the bale, the band catch is retracted to a position within the mandrel and a cleaning plate is moved axially along the mandrel sweeping the bands off a free end of the mandrel. This process is repeated to remove bands from other surfaces of the bale, thereby releasing the waste paper in preparation of processing.

  • Patent number: 5211091
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting pleated paper, and especially for filtration media for the automotive industry. Two tooth roller chains in parallel are supported above a support plate upon which pleated paper is placed. There is an opening in the plate through which the teeth of two sprockets supported beneath the plate may extend to mesh with the teeth of the corresponding roller chain. The teeth on both the chain and the sprocket are the same height as the pleated paper and when driven by an electric motor pulls the paper through the device separating each pleat. One pleat at a time is pushed through a slit in the table top at which point the pleat knuckle is sheared off by pneumatic operated cutter blade. A fiberoptics infrared scanner is used to monitor the amount of pleated material available. The number of pleats cut on any one run is controlled.

  • Patent number: 5205684
Abstract: An enlarged diamond table for use as a cutter in rotating drill bits is provided by disposing a plurality of thermally stable or leached polycrystalline diamond (PCD) rod-like elements within a matrix body. In one embodiment the matrix body is impregnated with diamond grit and completely fills the interstitial spaces between the plurality of PCD elements. Generally, the PCD elements have their longitudinal axes arranged in a mutually parallel configuration. The bundle of rod-like diamond elements are in one embodiment in a compact touching array and in another embodiment in a spaced-apart array. In the illustrated embodiment, a bundle of rod-like diamond elements are disposed so that their end surfaces are exposed on the cutting face of the cutting slug. The slug is then in turn mounted on a stud or directly infiltrated into a matrix body bit.

  • Patent number: 5201110
Abstract: A machine which separates pallet boards from their connecting stringers by sawing essentially through their attaching nails only, thus minimizing damage to the boards so that they can be reused. In order to separate and loosen the boards so that only the nails are cut a pressing device is designed to squeeze the sides of a pallet inserted within it. Then the loosened pallet, with the boards lifted so that there is space enough for a saw blade to be inserted to cut the nails only, is sent through the previously described sawing machine.

  • Patent number: 5199832
Abstract: A diamond cutting table having the geometric characteristics of larger unleached diamond compact products and yet characterized by the physical properties of smaller leached diamond products is fabricated by forming a diamond cutter incorporating a plurality of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) leached disks. The PCD leached disks are disposed in array in a cutting slug formed of matrix material. The matrix material is disposed between and around the plurality of diamond disks and in one embodiment incorporates a volume distribution of diamond grit. The cutting slug is hot pressed or infiltrated to form an integral mass or table. The diamond table is then bonded to a cutter or directly molded into an integral tooth within a matrix body bit.

  • Patent number: 5197364
Abstract: Apparatus for trimming lateral marginal portions of a scalloped stream of partially overlapping sheets has two counterknives at that side of the path for the sheets which is adjacent the leaders of successive sheets and a pair of rotary knives located opposite the counterknives at the side of the path which is adjacent the trailing ends of successive sheets. The sheets of the stream of sheets issuing from a printing machine must be inverted by 180.degree. if the counterknives are located beneath the respective rotary knives. Trimming operations which are carried out upon successive sheets having leaders at that side of the path which is adjacent the counterknives are less likely to result in tearing of the sheets than the trimming operations in conventional apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5195410
Abstract: A method of cutting a brittle workpiece comprises applying to the surface of the workpiece a pointed tool, applying high frequency vibrations in a longitudinal direction to the tool, and moving the tool along a line to be cut of the workpiece while applying substantially steady longitudinally directed pressure to the tool. Stress is thereby applied to the workpiece as a combination of short impulses and steady direct stress and the breaking stress of the material would be attained coincident with the peak oscillatory stress. Crack propagation would therefore proceed by a series of stepwise fractures induced by successive cyclic stress peaks, resulting ultimately in the separation of the workpiece into two pieces.

  • Patent number: 5195413
Abstract: The invention provides a punch press and shearing tool which operate to provide a series of cuts linked end-to-end for severing a work piece such as a piece of sheet metal. The shearing tool includes first and second elongated, cooperating cutting blades. Each of the blades has a pair of slidably related faces that slide against one another in a plane of reciprocation. The cutting edges are oriented at a small angle, e.g. 2.degree. to 6.degree., relative to one another to sever a piece of sheet stock progressively along a line with a scissor action. An intermittent work piece advancing motor shifts the work piece toward the cutting blades and parallel to the cut when the blades are apart. Gripping members can be yieldably mounted adjacent the cutting blades to grasp and forcefully hold the work piece in place as one blade moves toward the other. Yieldable stripper members on opposite sides of the second blade engage and independently deal with the stock on opposite sides of the cut.

  • Patent number: 5191822
Abstract: An improved clamp structure is disclosed in which a replacable liner element is mounted on a mount body. The liner element is accurately longitudinally positioned relative to the mount body such that the liner can be positioned in any one of a plurality of desired locations. This is particularly valuable if the clamp is utilized in combination with a cutting machine, wherein the cutting is performed adjacent an end face of the liner and it is desired to maintain a proper clearance between the end face of the liner and the cutting element. Several embodiments are disclosed, with a first embodiment including serrated teeth which allow the liner to be incrementally advanced on the mount body. In subsequent embodiments, a threaded member is turned relative to the mount body to change the position of the liner. Finally, a set-up rig is disclosed where the liner is positioned at a location remote from a cutting machine such that a skilled technician can ensure that the liner is properly positioned.
