Abstract: Systems and methods for a media content user interface. A media content provider includes storage for storing and serving video content to subscribers. The media content provider records and or otherwise stores video content from around the world. Subscribers are provided a user interface to the system that includes a side bar. The user interface provides context sensitive hints to assist the viewer. The system also tracks a viewer's viewing history in a manner that allows the viewer to review and directly access any part of that history. Finally, magnetic points are created for use during video scrubbing to intelligently select relocation points for the current playback position.

Abstract: In various embodiments, methods and systems for implementing video segment playlist generated are provided. A video management system implements a video segment manager that supports generating video segment playlists for video content. Generating a video segment playlist is based on enhanced segmented video associated with segmentation dimensions. An enhanced segmented video is a time-based segment of video content generated based on segmentation dimensions, segmentation rules and segment reconstruction rules. The video segment manager receives a search query. The video segment manager identifies a plurality of relevant enhanced segmented videos that satisfy the search query. A selection of at least a subset of the plurality of relevant enhanced segmented videos is received to generate a video segment playlist. The video segment manager generates the video segment playlist comprising references to the subset of the plurality of relevant enhanced segmented videos.

Abstract: Various implementations described herein are directed to devices and methods for providing an electronic program guide as a user interface. The devices and methods may identify a list of assets in a resource distribution system that are available for viewing by subscribers, identify a subset of assets from the list of assets that are currently being viewed by the subscribers, and organize the list of assets such that the subset of assets is emphasized in the user interface, which is capable of communicating with the resource distribution system.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to receive a first data stream, such as a public broadcast, and receive a second data stream, such as a private data stream, containing emails, for example. A user profile can be used to generate a data output stream for the user from the first and second data streams. The user profile can contain preferences for segments within the first and second data streams.

Abstract: In the following, a content delivery system delivers a modified version of a media asset to a current content consuming user. Control information identifying a desired attribute of the modified version of the asset is received from the current content consuming user. The media asset is modified based on the control information and audience reaction data associated with the media asset and generated by analyzing at least a previous content consuming user's reactions to the media asset while the media asset was supplied to a media output device of the previous content consuming user.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using selective resolution reduction on images to be transmitted and/or used by a playback device are described. Prior to transmission one or more images of an environment are captured. Based on image content, motion detection and/or user input a resolution reduction operation is selected and performed. The reduced resolution image is communicated to a playback device along with information indicating a UV map corresponding to the selected resolution allocation that should be used by the playback device for rendering the communicated image. By changing the resolution allocation used and which UV map is used by the playback device different resolution allocations can be made with respect to different portions of the environment while allowing the number of pixels in transmitted images to remain constant. The playback device renders the individual images with the UV map corresponding to the resolution allocation used to generate the individual images.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for detecting user engagement with auxiliary content consumed by a user at a viewing device, the method comprising, at the viewing device generating requests for auxiliary content associated with media content selected by the user to be consumed; receiving auxiliary content from an auxiliary content store and playing out the auxiliary content to the user; displaying at least one user engagement element associated with the auxiliary content, the user engagement element defining an expected user activity; generating user engagement data based on the engagement of a user with the user engagement element in accordance with the expected user activity, and formulating a message to be transmitted to an auxiliary content controller, the messaging including a user identifier and the user engagement data.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for presenting additional information related to an emergency alert. A media guidance application may detect that a new emergency alert has been received. The media guidance application may then perform a search of various content sources (e.g., program listings, the Internet, etc.) for content related to the emergency alert. The media guidance application may then present the search results in a contextual menu enabling the user to access content of the search results. The media guidance application may also provide more options, such as, recording or pausing media content that the user was in the process of consuming when the emergency alert was generated, and an option to the user not to bring up the contextual menu again if the same emergency alert is repeated.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer-readable storage media for allocating content elements addressed for a content opportunity in a transport stream within a household-addressable media network. A content opportunity may include an advertising slot in a programming stream. The content elements may include advertising content configured to be run during the advertising slot. The advertising slot may be transmitted in a programming stream providing television programming and the advertising content may be provided in a commercial feed. The media network may be configured to transmit various content formats, such as high definition (HD), standard definition (SD), and variations thereof. Systems may be configured to allocate the highest profile corresponding content elements if there is sufficient resources available. If sufficient resources are not available, the system may allocate lower profile versions of the content elements.

Abstract: Speech-controlled searching and browsing for content using speech-controlled devices, or other input-limited devices, is described. A user may audibly indicate to a speech-controlled device whether the user wants to search or browse for content, along with a topic of the content/results to be retrieved. A server, located remotely from the speech-controlled device determines an appropriate endpoint device for displaying results of the requested search or browse. The server also determines an appropriate content source for the requested content, and sends a request for the content to the content source. The server receives search or browse results from the content source and forwards them to the determined endpoint device.

Abstract: A portable device includes solid-state memory, an Ethernet and/or wireless network connection, and an HDMI. The portable device receives content guide data from a first server and displays a content guide on a display. In response to a user's selection of a content item, the portable device requests the content item over the Internet from a second server. The portable device receives the content item, stores the content item in solid-state memory, generates display signals that represent the content item, and sends the display signals to a display. The second server may match the content item with relevant advertisements based on keywords associated with the content item and the advertisements. The second server may send selected advertisement URLs to the portable device. Using the URLs, the portable device may obtain the advertisements over the Internet and cause the display to display the advertisements in conjunction with the content item.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an information processing device and method for adaptively supplying data of partial images. The information processing device includes: a reception unit configured to receive a file that includes a first track storing parameter sets related to an encoded entire image, a second track storing each partial image which is a part of the encoded entire image, and association information associating the first track with the second track; and a decoding unit configured to decode encoded data of the partial image included in the file received by the reception unit. For example, the present disclosure can be applied to an information processing device that performs a process for adaptively supplying image data.

Abstract: A method and system are performed by a processor of an audio-visual device according to instructions stored in a memory of that device that determines identity of a content medium based upon attributes associated with it and a set of user-defined settings associated with the content medium. The processor identifies a set of source-defined settings for configuring the device and selects one set of user-defined settings or the set of source-defined settings for configuring the audio-visual device. In addition, the processor determines if preexisting attributes exist that if it has to override the set of user-defined settings. It then configures one of the set of user-defined or overrides the settings. All channels from a particular network provider utilize the same set of user-defined settings, including channels that have not been visited by a user and future channels that have not yet been created.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling a media generation system where a media event may be selected via a stateless software module, the system receiving a media event protocol file corresponding to the selected media event. The media generation system generates the media event based on the received media event protocol file.

Abstract: The techniques described herein may, for example, allow a quantity of buffered video frames to be reduced, for example for use in adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming and other streaming transmissions. The quantity of buffered video frames may be reduced by dropping certain selected buffered frames from a resulting video output that is displayed to the viewer. This may reduce end-to-end latency without requiring a change in frame rate or fast forwarding of the video output, which may sometimes not be available or permitted by a resulting video player. These buffer reduction techniques may sometimes be employed upon a determination that transmission conditions have stabilized and that holding large quantities of buffered video may be unnecessary. In some examples, the disclosed techniques may be particularly advantageous for live streaming scenarios, in which end-to-end latency may be particularly problematic for the viewer.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to identify media content using temporal signal characteristics are disclosed. An example method includes generating a reference signature based on a reference signal corresponding to known media, generating sums based on peaks in a media signal corresponding to media, identifying signal peaks based on the generated sums, generating a second signature based on normalized curve features, wherein the normalized curve features respectively correspond to the identified signal peaks at a corresponding temporal locations of the corresponding signal peak, and determining whether the media signal corresponds to the reference signal based on a comparison of the reference signature and the second signature.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media can identify a beginning portion and a remaining portion of a video to be encoded. A first constant quality variable bit rate encoding process can be applied to the beginning portion, based on a first set of encoding parameters, to produce an encoded beginning portion. A second constant quality variable bit rate encoding process can be applied to the remaining portion, based on a second set of encoding parameters, to produce an encoded remaining portion. The encoded beginning portion can be provided for video playback. The encoded remaining portion can be provided, when requested, for video playback subsequent to the encoded beginning portion.

Abstract: This document describes, among other things, systems, methods, devices, and other techniques for using information about how long various videos were presented at client devices to determine subsequent video recommendations and search results. In some implementations, a computing can include a modeling apparatus, a front-end server, a request manager, one or more video file storage devices, a video selector, or a combination of some or all of these. The video selector can select video content for a particular digitized video among a plurality of digitized videos to serve to a computing device responsive to a request. The selection can be based at least in part on how long the particular digitized video has been presented at client devices associated with users having characteristics that match one or more characteristics of the user that submitted the request for video content, as indicated by the modeling apparatus.
