Abstract: A blower comprises a unit blower housing of molded plastic material having a circular outer wall and laterally spaced front and rear walls, defining an impeller chamber and a tangential outlet upon a first axis adapted to receive a flexible hose. The outlet defines with an end portion of the outer wall a reverse curved cut off edge extending between the side walls. An opening in the front wall is arranged upon a second axis at right angles to the first axis and receives an air inlet secured to the housing by a plurality of threaded inserts molded into the housing. An electric motor upon a support has a drive shaft extending through the rear wall. The rear wall is mounted upon and secured to the motor and an impeller is positioned within the housing and axially mounted upon the motor shaft and has an air intake receiving the air inlet cone.

  • Patent number: 4881319
Abstract: A process for mounting chip type circuit elements on printed circuit boards and apparatus therefor are capable of eliminating the necessity for arranging an X-Y table, thereby to simplify the structure of the apparatus, and decreasing the time required to mount one circuit element on a printed circuit board. Chip type circuit elements are sucked up by a plurality of suction pins arranged in each mounting head, transferred to a centering and turning section and then progressively mounted on a printed circuit board. The mounting head is adapted to carry out the reciprocating movement in the X-direction a plurality of times while it carries out the reciprocating movement in the Y-direction one time.

  • Patent number: 4881322
Abstract: A method and machine for making screw-on connectors is disclosed. The connectors have an insulating shell with a bore open at one end and a wire coil in the bore of the shell. The method includes the steps of heating the coils sufficiently so that it in turn heats the bore of the shell in contact with it to soften the interior of the bore, and applying a compressive axial thrust between the shell and coil while the interior of the bore is still soft to force them together to a predetermined axial relation. A suitable machine for accomplishing the steps of this method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4878295
Abstract: An appartus (10) attaching successive pairs of wires (12) to successive pairs of opposed contacts (15) of a connector (16) comprises a connector-carrying carriage (44,46) mounted for movement along a longitudinal axis. Each of a pair of ram assemblies (100) is mounted on opposite sides of the carriage for movement to and from a separate one of a pair of opposed contacts on the connector. Each pair of wire guides (58) is situated adjacent to a separate one of the ram assemblies for guiding a wire pulled thereacross into alignment with one of a pair the opposed connector contacts. Once each wire is aligned with the connector contact, each ram assembly is actuated to attach the wire to the contact. After wire attachment, an advancing mechanism (120, 126, 134, 142, 146) advances the carriage so that each of a successive pair of contacts is opposite a separate one of the ram assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4876786
Abstract: The instrument panel is clamped at both longitudinal ends thereof onto an assembly jig mounted on a robot arm. The jig holding the panel is inserted widthwise into the car cabin through a door opening. The jig is moved to a preassembly position where the end walls of the panel overlap outer side surfaces of mounting brackets previously installed in the car cabin. The end walls of the panel are then fastened in place by nut runners provided at both ends of the assembly jig. The nut runners are mounted on tool holders which are able to perform a floating movement in a plane perpendicular to the car width direction. Positioning devices are provided at both ends of the jig to correct the position of the tool holders with respect to the brackets to align and position the panel so that the mounting holes in the end walls of the panel line up with the tapped holes in the brackets.

  • Patent number: 4875282
Abstract: A multilayer printed circuit board in which multiple layers of a composite material, fabricated by the lay-up of an aramid fiber tape, are employed to provide a circuit board with a desired coefficient of thermal expansion. Tape lay-up of aramid fibers provides a composite layer having a lower thermal coefficient of expansion than a composite layer fabricated from woven aramid fibers. Degradation in the tensile modulus of elasticity caused by the over and under characteristics of woven fabrics is also eliminated by tape lay-up, thus providing a circuit board with better mechanical strength. In addition, tape lay-up reduces the amount of resin required to fabricate the circuit board and eliminates the need for twisting the aramid fibers into yarns and then weaving the yarns, thus reducing the cost of the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4875285
Abstract: An automatic SMD equipping unit utilizes a rotatable and displaceable multiple equipping head (1) with plural suction pipettes (2) and a device carrier (7) that contains processing stations (8). The multiple equipping head (1) executes a collecting event via delivery units (4) whereby it picks up components. The equipping of the printed circuit board (5) from the equipping head occurs in a second procedure, whereby the multiple equipping head (1) need not move back and forth between delivery unit (4) and printed circuit board (5) after every placement of a component (3) onto the printed circuit board (5). The components that were picked up by the suction pipettes (2) are processed by processing stations (8) after the collecting and before the equipping. Here, the components are centered, contacted, measured and tested.
