  • Patent number: 4425524
Abstract: A piezoceramic device has two layers of piezoceramic material bonded together, the layers polarized in opposite directions. The device is used to detect, and indicate, a change of voltage between two conductors and specifically is used between the tip and ring lines of a telephone line having more than one extension, to give a line status indication. A visual, yet non-electrical, readout of one polarity is provided when the bending piezoelectric element moves into a window in the housing wall.

  • Patent number: 4425526
Abstract: Electrical connections to thin film coatings, especially useful in a fluid flowmeter, have a conductive coating pressed against a rigid, relatively long, connector bar by conductively coated pads of elastomeric material at a selected controlled pressure, with the electrical connections to the film coating being made through the bar and pads. Utilizing this method, localized high stress areas which cause damage to the thin film are avoided, and low current densities are accomplished by the controlled contact pressure over a large area of the film coating.

  • Patent number: 4425520
Abstract: A device with an electromagnetic clutch includes a tubular member of steel which is secured to, and cantilevered by, a flange member secured to a housing of the device. A pulley having magnetic pole faces is rotatably mounted on the tubular member by one or more bearings. A drive shaft of the device extends out of the housing and through the tubular member, and supports a magnetic armature on the extended end. An electromagnet associating with the pulley is fixedly supported on the flange member to supply magnetic attraction force for attracting the armature plate to the pulley. In the arrangement, since the wall thickness of the tubular member is made thin, the outer diameter of the clutch can be reduced without degrading the transmission of rotational force. And a shaft seal assembly can be mounted on the drive shaft within the tubular member. Furthermore, the inner ring of the bearing is held between the flange member and a retaining ring fitted onto the tubular member, to be prevented from axial movement.

  • Patent number: 4425522
Abstract: A rotational speed indication signal generator comprises a magnetic circuit and a plurality of generating coils radially arranged with respect to the rotary shaft of a rotor. Each of the generating coils is wound around a radial projection of a circular disk made of a magnetic material so that the axis of the generating coils is normal to the rotary shaft. The generating coils are electrically connected in series in such a manner that a noise voltage induced across one coil caused by external flux has opposite poloraity to that of a noise voltage induced across another coil positioned opposite with respect to the rotary shaft. The electrical connection of the generating coils has a given circular direction while a lead wire connected to the last coil in the series connection has a circular direction opposite to the direction of the series connection.

  • Patent number: 4425525
Abstract: A linear array for rectilinear and sector scan imaging has identical approximately diamond-shaped transducer elements fabricated by making two pairs of straight line cuts at small angles through a piezoelectric slab. The Y-axis radiation pattern (parallel to element length and perpendicular to the array length) has lower side lobe levels than equal sized rectangular elements. No changes in the imager electronics among channels is required, and the shading function may be modified by changing only the transducer.

  • Patent number: 4424463
Abstract: An apparatus which reduces magnetic cogging between a rotor and stator of an electrical motor or generator. The stator is divided into pairs of angular pie-shaped segments, one member of each pair being shifted angularly with respect to the other member of the pair a distance equal to one-half of one pole pitch. This places the teeth of a shifted stator segment between the alternating magnetic poles of the rotor while the teeth of the unshifted segment are directly opposite the poles. When the rotor is moved, the reluctance torque, or magnetic cogging due to one member of a pair, virtually cancels the reluctance torque of the other member of the pair.

  • Patent number: 4423346
Abstract: A safety device for preventing overspeed of a rotary shaft driven by an electrical motor is arranged to cut a portion of an electrical circuit feeding the motor with electrical power, by making a cutter received in a rotary member jump up or protrude by a centrifugal force acting on the cutter, so that dangerous overspeed is prevented. The cutter is movably received in a radial bore made in the rotary member, and receives a tensile force from a coil spring which is fixedly supported by the rotary member at one end of the spring. An adjusting screw, which is a cylindrical member, is provided for biasing the cutter against the tensile force from the spring. A critical rotational speed, above which the cutter jumps to break the electrical circuit, can be freely adjusted by changing the position of the adjusting screw. The change in position of the adjusting screw results in both the change of an eccentric distance of the cutter and the change of the tensile force of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4418295
Abstract: An AC generator for vehicles has a cooling fan secured to one end face of a rotor core and being operative to produce radial and axial flows of cooling air. The radial air flow passes across a stator coil and outwardly through air outlet openings formed in a peripheral wall portion of a housing. The axial air flow passes through spaces between respective fingers of rotor core and also through air gap between the rotor and stator whereby the rotor and stator coils are reliably cooled by the cooling fan. In an embodiment of the invention, an additional radial-flow fan is provided and mounted on the rotor in face-to-face contacting relationship with the other end face of the rotor core.
