  • Patent number: 5988252
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for dispensing postage stamps that are coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive onto envelopes located therebeneath. Such postage stamps are wound in rolls and have a uniform width. In some postage stamp rolls the stamps are supported upon a carrier strip coated with a release agent, while in other arrangements the roll of stamps includes no separate carrier strip. The stamp application device of the invention is applicable to both types of postage stamp rolls. The stamp application apparatus employs a body that defines a stamp roll cavity and a postage stamp dispensing position. An advancement roller is located beneath the stamp roll cavity and above the postage stamp dispensing position and serves to advance the exposed end of the postage stamp roll toward the postage stamp dispensing position in incremental steps in response to operation of an advancement actuator mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5958177
Abstract: A device for applying a label to a compact disk is provided. The device includes a base plate that has a central opening through which a label projection member extends. The diameter of the label projection member is slightly smaller than the diameter of the central opening for the label of the compact disk thereby enabling the label to be placed on the base plate and over the label projection member with the adhesive side facing upwards. The device also includes a press-cover which includes a guiding projection member which frictionally engages the central opening of the compact disk. The label projection member also includes a central recess for accommodating the guiding projection of the press-cover. The guiding projection member, with the compact disk mounted thereon, is inserted into the central recess of the label projection member and the press-cover, compact disk and label projection member are pressed downward until the compact disk engages the adhesive side of the label.

  • Patent number: 5954913
Abstract: A label applicator for applying a label to the top surface of an object moving along a path adjacent to the applicator. The applicator is comprised of a label printer mounted for vertical adjustment on support structure attached to a fixed frame. The printer has a label feed position and is adjusted vertically on the support to set the label feed position to an expected median article height. A label transport assembly, attached to the frame, receives and retains the label and then moves vertically and laterally from a home position, above the label feed position, to an article intercept position, where it applies the label to the moving article. The controller learns the home position and positions the label transport assembly at the home position to pick up labels. The label printer, the label transport assembly, and the moveable frame are located alongside the object path such that when the label transport assembly is in the home position, the object path is vertically unobstructed.

  • Patent number: 5944947
Abstract: A laminating machine has an upper platen which is laterally rigid but transversely flexible. The upper platen is adjacent to a lower platen. Two sheets of material to be laminated together to form a laminated structure, such as a membrane switch, are held respectively on the upper and lower platens. A press roller is mounted behind the upper platen. The press roller is connected to an actuator that can sweep the press roller across the back face of the upper platen. The laminating cycle includes moving the upper platen so that it makes a shallow angle with the lower platen and advancing the press roller to flex the lower platen. The press roller is then advanced to compress the upper platen against the lower platen along a narrow nip which sweeps across the face of the lower platen. The machine avoids entrapment of air between the sheets which is a problem in prior laminating machines.

  • Patent number: 5938889
Abstract: A tape feeding apparatus capable of feeding a tape laminate made by superposing a first tape having a first chemical material layer on one side and a second tape having a second chemical material layer on one side reacting with the first chemical material with the layers in contact with each other. When the chemical reaction occurs between them, the second chemical material layer exhibits an indication which is visually recognized. Rollers press the first tape drawn out from a first reel and the second tape drawn out from a second reel so that the first and second chemical material layers come in mutual contact, and form the tape laminate.
