  • Patent number: 5840153
Abstract: A two-step press type transfer operation is made practical by a particular rendering of pictorializations for use upon the transfer sheets. A pictorialization should have a major portion of some object in the center of the pictorialization or a portion of a pictorialization in which a segmentation or division of such pictorialization is to be made so that one portion of the pictorialization may be placed upon one transfer sheet and a second portion of the pictorialization placed upon a second transfer sheet. Substantial straight linear portions of such pictorialization of this area are avoided and the division between the two portion of the image are run along nonlinear borders upon the edge of clearly defined structures within the pictorialization.

  • Patent number: 5814152
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coating the surface of a substrate suspends a coating material above the surface of the substrate and irradiates both the coating material and the underlying surface of the substrate. By irradiating both the coating material and the underlying surface of the substrate, a first portion of the coating material is melted to form an at least partially molten droplet of coating material. In addition, at least a second portion of the coating material is ablated to thereby create an ablation plume which propels the at least partially molten droplet of coating material toward the substrate. Thus, a metallic powder can be suspended within a carrier and can be directed along the substrate so as to be irradiated by a pulse of laser energy.

  • Patent number: 5800668
Abstract: An apparatus for taping work surfaces without kneeling, stooping, or bending. The apparatus is comprised of a carriage body having wheels and a push handle for imparting locomotion thereto. The push handle is located at a height sufficient for allowing a user to tape a surface from an upright walking position. The carriage body mounts a tape dispenser coupled to a tape registering device on its front surface. A roll of tape is mounted in the tape dispenser, and the tape is first fed manually to the tape registering device, which registers the tape upon a work surface. Upon firm registration, the apparatus is wheeled forward, and the tape is automatically unrolled, and applied to the work surface, until the desired amount of tape is applied. The tape dispenser and tape registering device can be uncoupled as a unit, and selectively positioned in a different geometric plane, for taping a new work surface.

  • Patent number: 5785804
Abstract: A method and apparatus for application of a header label to the bag. The bag, which has previously been filled with a product, is presented to the apparatus at an upstream bag presentation and accepting station and is gripped proximate its top. It is then transferred from the upstream bag accepting station to a downstream bag release station. Before being released, the bag travels to an intermediate label application station where a label is readied and applied to the bag. Thereafter, the bag proceeds downstream, with the label, and the label is sealed to the bag. A series of grippers are employed for accepting a stream of discreet bags in a continuous manner. The grippers are recirculated continuously so that the apparatus operates continuously so long as bags are presented for application of a label.
