  • Patent number: 5788901
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing continuous lengths of compression-molded material containing thermoplastic resin. Discrete lengths of extruded material are indexed through a compression mold. The mold forms, hardens, and integrally joins two successive extruded segments of material. A first molded segment is indexed forward leaving a trailing portion in the mold. A subsequent segment is extruded into the mold, and is integrally joined to the trailing portion by compressing the mold. Subsequent segments can be joined to produce a continuous profiled length formed from recycled thermoplastic material, while avoiding damage and downtime caused by contaminants in recycled material.

  • Patent number: 5788908
Abstract: Long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin compositions are made by passing a loosened continuous fiber bundle web through a coating die having a resin discharge outlet and coating at least one side of upper and lower sides of the web with a thermoplastic resin melt discharged from the resin discharge outlet. The web is pulled from the coating die in a generally horizontal downstream running direction. While the resin-coated continues fiber bundle web is being pulled generally horizontally the resin-coated continuous fiber bundle web is brought into contact with a plurality of upper and lower bars located downstream and outside of the coating die and arranged such that respective contact positions between web and the bars are generally in a horizontal plane, and such that the longitudinal axis of each of the bars is oriented transversely relative to the downstream running direction of the web. In such a manner, the web is impregnated with the resin melt to thereby form a fiber-reinforced composition.

  • Patent number: 5783129
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for producing a long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin compositions by initially loosening a continuous fiber bundle by a fiber loosening device so as to form a moving web-like continuous fiber bundle. At least one side of the moving web-like continuous fiber bundle which passes through the die is coated with a thermoplastic resin melt extruded through a slit disposed in the die by an extruder. The slit has substantially the same width as that of the web-like continuous fiber bundle to provide an even supply of the resin melt in the width direction of the web-like continuous fiber bundle. A thermoplastic resin melt is supplied to the slit via a plurality of resin supply paths which are branched successively on the same plane. The resin supply paths are positioned so as to be symmetrically planar with respect to the central axis of the root paths thereof.

  • Patent number: 5772940
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing moldings and an apparatus therefore, a ridge piece 20 protrudes from a molding main body 10 of a molding 1 in a lip manner is removed gradually from a leading end side to a root side by a lip removing piece 33 moving together with a second die 32 which changes the extrusion contour of the molding main body 10, then the ridge piece 20 is removed by the movement of the second die 32 without decreasing the thickness of the ridge piece 20 thinning. Accordingly, the ridge piece 20 can be removed effectively by the simple operation and apparatus without requiring the operation such as the after-treatment, which can result in the improvements of the productivity of the molding 1, the appearance of the molding 1, and the reliability.

The sole or base ply contains less than 10% by weight of resin. The film is stretched in such a way that the product of tensile strength in the longitudinal and transverse direction is greater than 50,000 (N/mm.sup.2).sup.2. The film is made by, among other steps, carrying out the orientation in the longitudinal and transverse directions such that the product of the longitudinal stretching ratio and the transverse stretching ratio is.gtoreq.60.

  • Patent number: 5759465
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recycling waste resin products are disclosed in which a shearing force is produced from pulverized small pieces due to the rotation speed difference of rollers by making the small pieces pass between the rollers rotated at different speeds. The shearing force is applied to both sides of the small pieces at different magnitudes. Foreign material films are separated from the small pieces due to the shearing stress difference between the small pieces and the films coated thereon. Additionally, the small pieces are passed through a secondary pulverizer rotated at a high speed to be thereby pulverized secondarily into a predetermined size, whereby the foreign material films are completely separated from the small pieces.
