  • Patent number: 11719072
Abstract: A well sealing tool may include a hydraulic setting mechanism wherein a setting chamber is isolated after setting a sealing element in engagement with a wellbore. In one example, a setting mechanism includes a setting chamber housing positionable about a mandrel to define at least a portion of a setting chamber between the mandrel and the setting chamber housing. A setting port fluidically couples a through bore of the mandrel with the setting chamber. A valve element is biased toward a closed position within the setting port. A guide sleeve is disposed about the mandrel in a first position that props the valve element to an open position. The guide sleeve is moveable to a second position in response to a threshold pressure applied to the setting chamber to release the valve element to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 11719047
Abstract: Geologic material in a borehole is weakened by accelerating a projectile into contact with the material. A drill bit is then used to bore through the weakened material. To accelerate the projectile, an endcap is placed in a conduit using a source of gas. The endcap isolates the conduit from the external environment. A projectile is then positioned in the conduit above the endcap. Movable members within the conduit are operated in sequence to enable single endcaps and projectiles to be moved into the conduit. Gas from the conduit is evacuated into an annulus between the conduit and a surrounding conduit, and a propellant material is provided into the conduit. The propellant material applies a force to the projectile to accelerate the projectile into contact with the geologic material. A fluid is circulated down a second annulus outside of the surrounding conduit to contact the drill bit and remove debris.

  • Patent number: 11708724
Abstract: A spindle with a mechanism for transferring axial force from an inner drive assembly to an outer drive assembly. The spindle's inner drive shaft is connected to an inner member of a dual-rod pipe by a drive rod having a sliding sleeve. The sleeve is fixed rotationally with the drive shaft, but not axially. When axial force drives the drive rod toward the drive member of the spindle, the sleeve contacts a stop member which is paired to the outer drive assembly. The stop member may be a pair of dowel pins. Axial force is thereby transferred from the inner member to the outer member, allowing such forces to be absorbed by the outer member's larger drive components.

  • Patent number: 11692398
Abstract: A sonic-powered method is provided for horizontal directional drilling. The method includes positioning a drilling apparatus at one end of a desired path for a generally horizontal bore to be formed, and attaching a drill bit and a drill rod to a drill head. The method also includes advancing the drill bit and the drill rod into and through the ground along the desired path by advancing the drill head to move along the drill mast. A sonic oscillator of the apparatus applies sonic energy in the form of high frequency vibrations to the drill rod and the drill bit to cause the drill bit to penetrate through an underground formation in front of the drill bit along the desired path. The sonic vibrations help efficiently penetrate through different materials in underground formations. The drilling apparatus can also use sonic vibrations to install drill casings to stabilize the bore.

  • Patent number: 11680471
Abstract: A production tubing is disposed in a wellbore. Hydrocarbons entrapped in a subterranean zone enter the wellbore. Multiple valves are disposed in the production tubing at respective multiple tubing locations. The multiple valves divide the production tubing into multiple stages. A presence of hydrocarbons in a first stage terminating at a first valve is determined and gas is injected into the first stage causing the hydrocarbons in the first stage to flow uphole through the first valve into a second stage uphole of the first stage. It is determined that the second stage is filled with the hydrocarbons and injection of the gas into the first stage is ceased. Multiple side chambers are disposed in the respective multiple stages. Determining the presence of hydrocarbons in the first stage incudes detecting a fluidic level of the hydrocarbons inside the first side chamber.
