Patent number: 4955721Abstract: A portable apparatus adapted for use in filling chuck holes in paved surfaces with a sulphur-based material that has been heated to a plasticized condition. The apparatus includes an electrically heated furnace in which an auger is mounted for the purpose of moving a sulphur-based material through the furnace at a controlled rate (e.g., about 2 feet per minute), such that the material will be elevated to a temperature of above 305 degrees Farenheit (the melting point of sulphur) to produce a tenacious filler material. The furnace is heated by tubular resistance heaters that are bent in a spiral fashion around a mandrel, so that they may be placed in intimate contact with the exterior of a tube which constitutes the core of the furnace. The furnace is fed by a hopper that is mounted above the entry point for the auger, so that dry material may be fed--by gravity--into the furnace whenever a gate-valve mechanism is opened.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1987Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Inventors: Lloyd T. Patent number: 4941752Abstract: Improved mixing equipment of the wall-baffled, cylindrical, mixing-vessel type is provided. The novel baffles employed have a uniform cross-sectional form corresponding generally to a small geometric segment of a circle, the radius of which circle is substantially equal to that of the inner wall of said mixing vessel. A plurality (e.g., 2 to 4) of such baffles mounted at uniformly spaced locations around the periphery of said inner wall are employed together with a concentrically located, multi-bladed impeller capable of providing good axial and radial mixing within said vessel. The subject mixing equipment can deliver outstanding performance in terms of speed and completeness of mixing, as well as economy in power consumption and peak power requirements. Results are especially noteworthy when the equipment is used to mix chemical reagents (gaseous or liquid) with thick, non-Newtonian suspensions of solids and liquids; e.g., wet wood pulps and similar compositions containing fine, fibrous solid matter.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1988Date of Patent: July 17, 1990Assignee: Quantum Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Robert E. Patent number: 4940334Abstract: A reverse flow post-mixer attachment for direct-fixed asphaltic concrete mixers includes a modified discharge box for the downstream end of the drum and an enclosure for the downstream portion of the drum forming a passage along the exterior of the drum. If the smoke point of the liquid asphalt to be added to the material in the drum meets an established standard it is injected into the material upstream of the downstream end of the drum and discharged from the latter end in the normal manner. If the smoke point of the asphalt does not meet the standard, the material exiting the drum is diverted into the passage along the exterior of the drum and the asphalt added there out of the burner stream in the durm. The material and asphalt are then mixed and moved through the passage and finally discharged.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1988Date of Patent: July 10, 1990Assignee: Cedarapids, Inc.Inventor: Joseph E. Patent number: 4938606Abstract: The production of a water-in-oil emulsion proceeds by an exact dosing of the desired water-oil ratio in a dosing apparatus. The dosed mixture is fed into a mixing chamber for producing the emulsion proper. Thereafter, the emulsion is fed out of the chamber via a funnel-like narrowing outlet into a storage tank, within which the emulsion is kept in permanent motion. A partial quantity of the emulsion is drawn off this chamber and returned possibly together with newly made emulsion to the mixing chamber. A further partial quantity of the emulsion is drawn off the storage tank and fed to the consumer. The conveying of the mixture and maintaining of the circulation, resp. is achieved by a pump located ahead of the mixing chamber. The apparatus has specific application for the production of a water-in-oil emulsion for the operation of combustion engines or oil burners.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1987Date of Patent: July 3, 1990Assignee: Zugol AGInventor: Gerold Kunz

Patent number: 4934013Abstract: A wiper clearing device (10,24) for removing debris and other foreign matter from a wiper (14). The device includes a series of angularly positioned obstructions (20, 22). In one variation the obstructions are projections (20) while in another variation the obstructions are created by depressions (22). The obstructions (20, 22) are arranged in a bird track like pattern which forms a barricade over which the wiper must pass. As the wiper passes over the barricade debris and other foreign matter is dislodged. Variations are disclosed in which the obstructions are made integral with the windshield or are adhesively secured to the windshield.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1989Date of Patent: June 19, 1990Inventor: John J. Patent number: 4932078Abstract: The invention comprises a unitized system of garments that prevents particulate matter from passing from the body of the person wearing the garments into the surrounding atmosphere or vice versa. Water vapor or other gases such as air are free to pass through the garment fabric which is a laminate of expanded, porous and gas permeable polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bonded to a porous and gas permeable backing material. Particulate matter is blocked by the very fine pores of the garment. The person is totally enclosed in the garments preferably presenting virtually a 100% external surface of nonlinting PTFE, and passage of water vapor or water vapor and air through the laminate is sufficient to allow breathability. In order to make practical putting the garment on and taking it off, and to eliminate gaps in the garment, separate pieces are required and particulate-proof barriers are required where the separate sections are joined.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1985Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Assignee: W. Patent number: 4925051Abstract: A container lid can be used for open-mouthed containers having a peripheral curl about the rim of the container. This peripheral curl defines a rim receiving cavity which may be snap fit over the rim of the container to attach the lid to the container. The container may thereafter be effectively closed by the lid. This lid may additionally have a well having an upwardly sloped portion and a well portion. The well portion has a raised element therein, which can form openings in the lid. In particular, by applying a downward force to a top surface of the raised element, eye-shaped slits may be formed at frangible areas adjacent the corners of this element. These eye-shaped slits permit contents within the container to be discharged therethrough. For instance, a beverage may be held in the container. After applying a downward force to the raised element to form slits in the container lid, the beverage may be discharged through the slits, passed over the sloped portion and then poured and/or ingested therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1988Date of Patent: May 15, 1990Assignee: Imperial Cup CorporationInventor: David H.
