Abstract: In a method for providing a content service to a recipient (20) in communications, a service center (14) receives information on a recipient identification and on service terminals (16) assigned, in a sender device (38), for the content. The service center (14) uploads the content to the assigned service terminals (16). The service terminal (16) receives information on a location of a transmitter device (34) of the recipient (20). The service terminal (16) compares the received location information with location information on the service terminal (16). Based on the comparing, if the service terminal is in a close proximity of the transmitter device (34) of the recipient (20) the service terminal (16) activates a first display content for inviting the service terminal (16) to display the uploaded content on a monitor of the service terminal (16). When the recipient acknowledges the first display content, the service terminal may take actions related to a second display content.

  • Patent number: 9402175
Abstract: A system and method for selecting a proxy gateway server for controlling data traffic initiated by a user device roaming on a visited network is disclosed. The method includes utilizing a mobility anchor server associated with the visited network to receive a request to activate a data traffic session from a user device, identify the user device as a roaming user device, and select a proxy gateway server from one or more servers associated with the visited network for controlling the data traffic initiated by the roaming user device. The selection of a proxy server is accomplished by querying a DNS server associated with the visited network with a pre-defined roaming APN string associated with the visited network and, in response to the query, receiving an Internet Protocol (IP) address of the proxy gateway server from the DNS server.

  • Patent number: 9369864
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for client-based capabilities management for e.g., heterogeneous networks. In one exemplary embodiment, a client device associated with a cellular (e.g., EV-DO) network attempts to negotiate a session with a visited network while roaming. The negotiated session is selected from only the set of available capabilities (only the personalities which have a roaming agreement between the home network and the visited network), to ensure that the session negotiation can complete successfully. Once the session is negotiated, the visited network can execute standard authentication and authorization procedures with the assistance of the home network.

  • Patent number: 9232446
Abstract: In order to reduce the occurrence of call loss in mobile stations while suppressing degradation of communication quality in a handover destination cell, a communication unit (11) forming an eNB (10) receives, from another eNB located adjacent to an own eNB, a first reception quality in a cell formed by the own eNB and a second reception quality in a cell formed by the another eNB. The first reception quality and the second reception quality are measured by one or more UE that are in radio communication with the another eNB. A control unit (12) accepts a call associated with UE which satisfies a first condition that the first reception quality is higher than the second reception quality in preference to a call associated with UE which does not satisfy the first condition.

  • Patent number: 9177604
Abstract: Various embodiments enable a user of a mobile media device to select one or more channels to load onto the device. Each channel comprises a collection of media content files, such as video content, audio content, and so on. Each collection of media content files can be associated with a particular genre (or genres) of media content. A channel can be managed such that its collection of media content can be rearranged, augmented, and/or otherwise edited to produce a refreshed version of the channel. A user's interaction with content within a channel can be monitored to produce behavior data about the user. The behavior data can be used to customize the playback of a particular channel to reflect user preferences. The behavior data can also be used to produce channels that are custom tuned for the user and can be used to produce a customized version of a mobile media device.

  • Patent number: 9160712
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for filtering packets in a wireless communication system in the to-subscriber direction. This filtering is at least in part based on RF circuit state information. For example, a packet filter is used that either permits or denies packets from reaching a mobile subscriber based on whether there is already an established RF circuit to provide packets to the mobile subscriber. Alternatively, or in addition, the packet filter may consider the history of circuit state transitions associated with a particular mobile subscriber, the percentage (or aggregate number) of available airlink resources that are currently in use, and/or the length of time associated with the dormancy of a mobile subscriber's RF connection. In various embodiments, the packet filter may cause one or more packets to be sent to a mobile subscriber using a special data channel that does not require the establishment of an RF circuit.

  • Patent number: 9143216
Abstract: A first network device including a transceiver, a circuit and a controller. The transceiver receives a first packet broadcast from a second network device to multiple network devices via a channel. A bit in the first packet indicates a request for a condition of the channel. The network devices include the first network device. The circuit determines the condition of the channel based on the bit in the first packet. The controller, prior to the circuit determining the condition of the channel and in response to the bit in the first packet, transitions the circuit to an active state. The controller, subsequent to the circuit determining the condition of the channel, returns the circuit to an inactive state. The transceiver, subsequent to the circuit returning to the inactive state, transmits a second packet to the second network device. The second packet indicates the condition of the channel.

  • Patent number: 9137741
Abstract: A method of scanning neighboring target RATs (Radio Access Technology). The method according to one embodiment includes transmitting a message including a field indicating whether or not the mobile station supports the inter-RAT handover while performing a network entry process; transmitting a request for information about another RAT only if the inter-RAT handover is supported by the mobile station; and, in response to the request, receiving information about a recommended RAT from the base station. The information about the recommended RAT is selected based on the location information. The method according to the embodiment further includes performing the scanning of the neighboring target RATs using the information about the recommended RAT; and reporting a result of the scanning. The performing of the scanning is triggered when channel quality falls below a certain threshold. The receiving information is in response to, both, the transmitted message, and the transmitted request.

  • Patent number: 9119139
Abstract: A method for facilitating accelerated network selection on a wireless user equipment (UE) device includes storing information regarding power-off time and power-off location as the UE device is about to enter a power-off condition. Upon power-up, the method further includes computing an estimated distance that the UE device has traveled while in the power-off condition using the stored information and a current time, defining a boundary that lies the estimated distance from a location indicated by the power-off location, for a plurality of regions lying within the boundary, logically sequencing acquisition records that are associated with the regions in a system acquisition database structure based on the regions nearness to the boundary, and locating a network via scanning using scanning data obtained from the logically sequenced acquisition records.

  • Patent number: 9107184
Abstract: For applications with very small data activities, connection of a UE to a wireless network for sending or receiving such small data traffic increments via conventional connection set-up processes is quite inefficient in terms of spectral resource utilization. The invention provides a new connectionless methodology for transmission of such small data increments between a UE and a serving eNB. In particular, the invention methodology contemplates identifying a set of preamble sequences among the pool of preamble sequences provided for access requests from a UE to an eNB via the Random Access Channel as corresponding to a request from the UE for access to transmit an increment of data smaller than a predetermined threshold data size. When a UE has data traffic to transmit of a size smaller than the predetermined threshold size, it selects one of the preamble sequences in the identified set and sends an access request, using the selected preamble sequence, to a serving eNB via the Random Access Channel.
