  • Patent number: 4733581
Abstract: The present invention provides an automatic transmission provided with an oil temperature increase prevention mode which automatically shifts gears on the basis of a gear-change pattern of that mode, and which is one of a plurality of gear-change patterns, in which downshift points are shifted toward the high-speed side from a standard gear-change pattern when the oil temperature signal rises above the level of a signal corresponding to a given temperature; and a control system for judging that oil temperature has increased to a given temperature on the basis of the oil temperature signal, and generating control signal so as to change the mode to the oil temperature increase prevention mode.

  • Patent number: 4727762
Abstract: This improved driving force support is used in a linear actuator in which rotary motion of a rotating screw shaft is converted to linear motion of a travelling nut. The driving force support comprises a pair of springs surrounding the rotating shaft and held in compression between a pair of shaft bearing receivers. The receivers and bearings held thereby move axially with the rotating shaft as axial forces are applied to the shaft by the travelling nut. The bearing receivers slide axially in a hollow housing. The springs are arranged in series between seats which normally abut the respective bearing receivers and also normally abut stop surfaces in the housing. One spring has a high degree of stiffness, and the other has a comparatively low degree of stiffness.

  • Patent number: 4727760
Abstract: The invention is directed to a connection between the equalizer beam and the walking beam in a walking beam type oil well pumping unit, the walking beam having a tail shaft rotatably mounted generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the beam. The connection comprises an equalizer beam and two support members spaced from one another lengthwise of the equalizer beam and rigidly secured to the beam, each support member having an arm extending outwardly toward the other support member, and each arm having a curved downwardly-facing bearing surfaces adapted to be engaged by a respective end of the tail shaft. A retainer associated with each support member holds its respective end of the tail shaft in engagement with the downwardly-facing bearing surface when forces tending to separate the shaft from the bearing surface are applied to the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4726243
Abstract: A continuously variable friction drive transmission has expandable fluid housing members on both the input shaft and the output shaft. The housing members are in fluid communication with a control valve which is operable to establish the fluid pressures in the housings. The housings are maintained in frictional engagement by the internal fluid pressure such that power can be transmitted between the shafts. The drive ratio between the shafts is determined by the internal pressures of the housings which establish the outer diameters thereof. The drive ratio is changed by changing one or both of the internal fluid pressures.

  • Patent number: 4722234
Abstract: A two-speed power-take-off drive for a tractor is disclosed which includes an assembly for sensing and indicating the PTO shaft speed to an operator in the tractor cab. The speed of the PTO shaft is a function of which end thereof is inserted into the drive sleeve, which determines the extent of its penetration into the drive sleeve. A speed indicator arrangement is provided which includes a sensing rod whose movement is controlled by the extent of penetration of the PTO shaft into the drive sleeve. The sensing rod is operative to activate or inactivate an electrical switch. The electrical input condition of the switch serves as an input to the tractor instrument cluster in the tractor cab to indicate the selected PTO shaft speed.

  • Patent number: 4721006
Abstract: The mechanism comprises a movable member having three axes converging in a center of the mechanism, i.e. two main axes guided each by a crank, and a driven axis on which any point follows a substantially circular path centered in the above center. This is due to an appropriate geometry. A driven member may be linked to the movable part about the driven axis, and to a parallelism rod which is in turn linked to one of the cranks. The driven member remains then parallel to itself when the mechanism is actuated, that is, when the one crank is rotated with respect to a carrier member. The driven member may be a cylindrical side window of a car.

  • Patent number: 4718292
Abstract: The mechanism comprises a movable part having one main point actuated by a crank, another main point guided along a slide having a desired profile, and a driven point which follows a desired path, depending upon the path of the two main points. A driven member is articulated to the movable member about the driven point. Moreover, the driven member is guided with respect to the crank along a path which is in a certain similarity with respect to the path of said other main point. The driven member moves parallel to itself when the crank is actuated.

  • Patent number: 4716777
Abstract: A ten-speed transmission which is located inside the hub of the driving wheel of a pedal powered vehicle, and which includes a pedal drive shaft mounted in bearings on the axis of the wheel, is used to provide a compact, low maintenance alternative to the chain and derailleur system used for conventional multiple speed bicycles. Three idler shafts divide the pedal torque between three gear teeth permitting the gear widths to be one third that which would be required for a transmission using a single idler shaft. The resulting narrow gears coupled with a shift arrangement which adds nothing to the transmission width, permits the width between the pedals to be approximately that of a conventional chain driven bicycle. This transmission is particularly well suited for use in recumbent front wheel drive bicycles and tricycles.

  • Patent number: 4706510
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of a guidance system (9, 14) for two machine parts (1, 2) which are movable relative to each other and are interconnected through this guidance system. To protect this guide track (9) disposed on the first machine part (1) from the track dust, grease, oil and the like, it is disposed in an almost completely closed guide channel. This guide channel is accessible only from the top through a slot engaged by guide elements (14) of the other machine part (2). The slot is covered on the one hand by the housing of machine part (2), and in the area outside of this housing it is closed by a belt (4). The guide track (9) is thus closed to the outside in any position of the machine part (2). If a toothed belt drive (3) is used, the toothed belt (4) acts as driving and covering element at the same time.

  • Patent number: 4680982
Abstract: A spindle or leadscrew and an associated nut, forming part of a driving assembly of the circulating-ball type, have helical threads of symmetrical profiles in the shape of pointed arches whose flanks engage the recirculating balls along respective helical contact lines. With the spindle virtually non-deformable in the axial direction, the pitch of its thread exceeds that of the nut thread (in the absence of stress upon the latter) by a small differential--specifically 0.02%--lying well within the limits of elastic axial deformability of the nut. Upon rotation of the spindle relative to the nut for the transmission of an axial force, this differential results in an approximately uniform stress distribution among the sets of balls lying in confronting turns of the spindle and nut threads.

  • Patent number: 4671126
Abstract: The walking beam of a pumping unit is suspended from an oscillating hanger arm. It is pivoted at one end to a crank and to a link, the other end of the latter being pivoted to a fixed position shaft. At the other end of the walking beam is a point which follows a virtually rectilinear path between a bottom dead center position and a top dead center position. This point may therefore be coupled through a rigid member to an oil well pump sucker rod line.

  • Patent number: 4660426
Abstract: A pumping unit for actuating a down hole pump is disclosed for a pumping units of the type wherein a counterweight is mounted on a beam to balance a down hole load consisting substantially of pump rods. One end of the beam includes a static counterweight to balance the other end of the beam about a center pivot point, the other end of the beam including a horsehead connected to the pump rods. A prime mover is mounted on the beam for rotating beam mounted cranks including at a terminal end thereof dynamic counterweights which move in a rotational cycle in conjunction with a pumping cycle of the pumping unit. The dynamic counterweights, at a maximum lever arm from the center pivot point of the beam, counterbalance the fluid being pumped during the work stroke of the pumping unit. As the dynamic counterweight rotates it passes through a minimum lever arm from the center point corresponding to a minimum down hole load.
