  • Patent number: 4655096
Abstract: A flexure mount assembly particularly adapted for use in a dynamically tuned two-degree-of-freedom gyroscope to provide a universal coupling between a rotor element and a drive shaft. The mount features a substantially planar "spider" member normally oriented transversely to the spin axis of the rotor. The spider has four webs, each web extending radially from an inner central area associated with an inner gimbal ring to an outer annular area. The outer annular area is associated with an outer ring which is divided into four independent sectors. Each web has two sections and each section has the shape of two parabolas which intersect at their vertices. A central aperture roughly elliptical in shape is thus formed in each web. At both ends of each aperture, narrow radial slots are formed. Two mutually perpendicular "vertical" or cross flexure members each have key portions that extend in planes parallel to the spin axis through the radial slots.

  • Patent number: 4651581
Abstract: An influencing arrangement with telescopically variable length, comprising an influencing member which can be actuated by the drive shaft and moved its longitudinal. The invention makes is possible to provide an arrangement which among other things is compact and has considerable stroke-length, and which consists of few complicated parts. A plurality of influencing members (2,2',2.sup.2) which are disposed co-axially relative to each other and have an outer and/or inner thread element, are connected together via a plurality of rotatable, telescopically connected drive shaft devices (8, 8') with a non-circular cross-section part, whereby rotation of the main rotary drive shaft (9) in one direction of rotation causes the said influencing members (2,2'2.sup.2) to be screwed out in order to extend the arrangement, and rotation of the said main rotary drive shaft in the opposite direction of the rotation causes the said influencing members to be screwed in and closed up one inside the other.

  • Patent number: 4635767
Abstract: An interlock for the throttle and parking brake of a vehicle for retaining the engine at a predetermined speed until the parking brake is released. Includes a fluid supply conduit connected to the parking brake actuating mechanism. The supply of fluid to the parking brake actuating mechanism is controlled. The parking brake is maintained in the brake engaged position in the absence of fluid supply to the brake actuating mechanism. A linkage is interposed between a first member connected to a vehicle operated control mechanism, and a second member connected to an engine speed control mechanism. The link has a first operating mode for effectively connecting the first and second operating members in a second operating mode for effectively disconnecting the first and second operating members. The first member is placed in its first operating mode when fluid is supplied to the parking brake and is placed in second operating mode when the supply of fluid is discontinued.

  • Patent number: 4635773
Abstract: A rotary coupling for connecting a driven part to a source of rotary force transmits rotary force in one direction only and disengages to permit the driven part to free wheel when the input member is stopped and precludes the backdriving of rotary force from output member to input member. The coupling includes an input member having a splined shaft, a coupling member connected to the splined shaft, and a co-axial output member. The coupling member and the output member having complementary sets of axially facing clutch teeth. Guides in the form of helical grooves on the coupling member and spring loaded followers acting with the guides affect the engagement and disengagement of the clutch teeth by moving the coupling member toward and away from output member, the followers and guides themselves disengaging to permit free wheeling of output member when input member is stopped.

  • Patent number: 4630494
Abstract: A continuously variable traction drive transmission of the class including three working bodies, two of which are concentric with a first transmission axis, the other of which is concentric with a second axis intersecting and inclined with respect to the first axis, and wherein the angle of intersection subtending the axes is large acute angle so that the points of rolling friction contact always lie between the intersecting transmission axes. The body concentric with the second axis includes two oppositely convergent cone-like rolling surfaces of revolution about the second axis which are held in rolling friction engagement with annular plate-like members forming one of the two bodies concentric with the first axis. The other of the two bodies concentric with the first axis carries the body on the second in nutation and continuously variable speed ratios are achieved by adjusting the cone members relative to the plate members.

  • Patent number: 4628755
Abstract: A mouse (X-Y position controller) having axially-inclined transducer assemblies--preferably almost perpendicular to the surface on which the mouse is operated--for a compact, greatly simplified structure. The drive wheel of such an assembly can then be small relative to the transducer disk of that assembly, with considerably reduced precision requirements for location of indicia on the disk. Moreover, by use of a pair of spaced ring magnets urging the drive wheel toward the operational surface for the mouse, significant contact force against the operating surface is provided while eliminating substantially all of the friction attendant upon use of even a so-called antifriction thrust bearing. Due to the magnitude of the available contact force, the drive wheel can be of a hard and durable material rather than an elastomer and still provide improved tractional characteristics even on such a difficult operating surface as, for example, oiled teflon.

  • Patent number: 4616529
Abstract: The strain-wave transmission according to the invention is provided, for purposes of sealing between input and output parts on both sides of the strain-wave generator, with an overlying cup-shaped jacket which is stiffened from within against bulging by a likewise cup-shaped support member open toward the pressure side. For the purpose of sealing, the frontal edges of the strain wheel and of the support members are nonrotatably and sealingly interconnected and the input-side support member is flanged onto the housing cover via a tube. The elimination of a differential pressure in the frontal regions of the strain wheel enables a flexible structure of the support member and an overall lower bulging stress with a more favorable stress distribution, thus allowing the use of more readily deformable wall thicknesses and a more reliable sealing with improved life span.
