  • Patent number: 8122109
Abstract: An incompatibility problem during a virtual environment migration from a first host to a second host can be addressed by changing a configuration of the virtual environment and/or by migrating the virtual environment to a host other than the second host. A migration advisor module is configured to take such action automatically upon detection of the incompatibility problem. Alternatively, the migration advisor module may take such action with assistance and/or input from an operator. The migration advisor module can change the configuration of the virtual environment by removing unnecessary components of the virtual environment and causing the reconfigured virtual environment to be migrated to the second host. Alternatively, the migration advisor module can cause the virtual environment to be migrated to a third host with sufficient physical system resources to meet the requirements of the virtual environment.

  • Patent number: 8112505
Abstract: Techniques are provided for desktop streaming over wide area networks. In one embodiment, a computing device comprises logic that is configured to intercept file open requests for files stored in a file system, where at least some of the files in the file system may have not yet been fully downloaded. In response to a request to open a file, the logic is configured to modify a first sharing mode specified therein and to open the file in a read-write sharing mode that allows other processes to open the file. While one or more blocks of the file are being downloaded or written into the file, the logic is configured to check whether a second sharing mode received in a subsequent request to open the file is compatible with the first sharing mode. If the second sharing mode is not compatible with the first sharing mode, the logic is configured to deny the subsequent request even though in the file system the file is opened in the read-write sharing mode.

  • Patent number: 8103776
Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods for storage allocation in the provisioning of virtual machines. A provisioning (or “cobbler”) server can interact with a local virtual machine installation client to initiate software provisioning to a set of virtual machines. The provisioning process can entail, for example, the selection and delivery of an operating system to the target set of virtual machines, as well as the installation of applications or other software. In conjunction with the provisioning process, the virtual machine installation client can identify and access a set of storage resources, such as hard disk or other storage, to be associated with the set of virtual machines, which themselves contain no local storage. That client can determine an allocation of the set of storage resources to each virtual machine in the set of virtual machines, for instance on a pro-rata basis or based on processing consumption or other factors.

  • Patent number: 8094206
Abstract: An endoscope processor including a light source controller, an imaging device driver, and a gamma-correction block, is provided. The light source controller can order first and second light sources to alternately emit first and second lights, respectively. The imaging device driver orders an imaging device to generate first and second image signals by capturing an optical image of a subject while the firs and the second light are shone on the subject, respectively. The gamma-correction block carries out gamma correction on the first and second image signals using first and second color gamma coefficients, respectively. The first and second color gamma coefficients are predetermined according to the wavelength band of the first and second lights.

  • Patent number: 8095655
Abstract: A method and system for controlling a recipient's access to a user's information. The method includes receiving a plurality of contact information, registration information and access information from the user. Only person's knowing the user's registration information can update the contact and access information of the user. The contact information entered by a user is about that user. The access information defines accessible sets of contact information to be made accessible to recipients. A telephone exchange is associated with each recipient; and a local server is associated with each telephone exchange. The accessible set of information is stored in the local server for access by the recipient. The system handles updates to information on the local servers when a user updates their contact information. The system can automatically place calls for a recipient to a user that has granted the recipient access to a number for communicating with the user.
