Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for methods, devices and systems for setting up an agent shortcut operation to be activated at an electronic device in a network. The agent shortcut operation can be setup at an electronic device connected to a network by receiving a selection of an agent shortcut operation from a user on an agent setup device, and sending the selected agent shortcut operation through the network to the electronic device to be available for subsequent activation. The agent shortcut operation can be activated by sending an agent shortcut operation to the electronic device, receiving an activation signal from an agent activation device for the agent shortcut operation, and in response to the received activation signal, sending a signal to the electronic device to activate the agent shortcut operation.

Abstract: Methods, systems and computer readable mediums storing computer executable programs for managing access to a network at a network access management module are disclosed. A first network request is received from a client at a network access management module. A first determination is made regarding whether the first network request is associated with a restricted network action at the network access management module. A second network request is received from the client at the network access management module. The second network request is intercepted at the network access management module based on the first determination. A network access restriction notification is transmitted from the network access management module to the client based on the first determination.

Abstract: Files are divided into parts and at least some of the parts are transmitted to a client using a communication channel. At least some of the transmitted parts are cached locally. This allows subsequent streaming playback of the file while using less bandwidth by transmitting the part of the file that hasn't been cached, and combining the cached parts with the transmitted parts. In some embodiments, files may be represented at a low quality level by a first data set, and at higher quality levels with additional data sets. Data sets are cached locally, so that during subsequent streaming playback of the file, the quality level of the playback may be improved by sending additional data sets using bandwidth that would otherwise be dedicated to transmitting the cached data sets.

Abstract: View-upload decoupled (“VUD”) peer-to-peer (P2P) video distribution is provided, in which each peer is assigned to one or more channels to upload, with the assignments made independent of what the peer is viewing. For each assigned channel, the peer distributes (that is, uploads) the channel. This effectively creates semi-permanent distribution swarms for each channel, which are formed by peers responsible for uploading that channel. This can minimize problems associated with channel churn because peers may remain in their assigned distribution groups even if they switch channels. To minimize cross-channel overhead associated with VUD P2P video distribution, substream swarming, in which a peer in a distribution swarm only downloads a small portion of the video stream, called a substream, and uploads the substream to multiple viewers, may be provided.

Abstract: A system, method and program product for transferring structured and unstructured data in a service oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure. A method is disclosed that includes: receiving a request for a synchronization at a service orchestration engine (SOE), wherein the synchronization includes a transfer of structured meta-data from a first node to a second node and a transfer of unstructured file data from a first file node to a second file node; creating an entry in a routing table to track the synchronization; receiving the structured meta-data at the SOE from the first node and transferring the structured meta-data to the second node; and orchestrating a peer-to-peer data transfer from the first file node to the second file node, including communicating with file handling agents at the first and second file handling nodes.

Abstract: Aspects of the invention pertain to user session management in load balanced clusters. Multiple application servers communicate with a central data server to ensure there is a single session per user ID. The central data server maintains a user session index and a parameter table. Each time a network access is attempted using a given user ID, a load balancer assigns the session to one of the application servers. The assigned application server queries the central data server to determine whether a session status for the user's login ID is inactive or active. If inactive, a new, unique value is assigned as the session number. If active, the session number is evaluated to determine whether multiple sessions exist. In this case, one of the sessions is terminated to ensure a single session per user ID. Preferably, the terminated session is the earlier session.

Abstract: Domain name caching is controlled by adding a nonce to a domain name to force propagation of lookup to an authoritative server or service. Desired caching behavior is dictated by controlling when a new and unique nonce-bearing name is created. For example, caching can be completely eliminated by generating a new nonce-bearing name for every request. While a nonce can simply correspond to a random or pseudo random value, it can also be time based. Furthermore, nonces can be phase or time shifted to limit authoritative server load as well as improve response time.

Abstract: Media and system are provided for monitoring and adjusting timeout parameters in devices to prevent or reduce timeout scenarios for the devices. A dynamic timeout management server (DTMS) monitors wait times and behaviors of devices to implement an optimum timeout parameter that will prevent the occurrence of a timeout. When timeouts occur for a particular device, the DTMS changes the amount of time in the timeout parameter and communicates this new timeout parameter to relevant devices to prevent a timeout. The timeout parameter or new timeout parameter is stored in a global centralized timeout database as well as a local or regional timeout database.

Abstract: Digital living network alliance (DLNA) enabled portable electronic devices are provided that include a DLNA device circuit and a DLNA management console circuit. The DLNA device circuit is configured to attach the portable electronic device to an existing DLNA network having at least one existing DLNA management console so as to allow the portable electronic device to be a source for data on the existing DLNA network. The DLNA management console circuit is configured to enable the portable electronic device to operate as a portable management console for the existing and/or a new DLNA network. Related management consoles and methods of operating DLNA enabled portable electronic devices are also provided.

Abstract: A system for managing a conversation includes one or more interfaces configured to provide management information about the conversation to a manager. The interface can be configured to provide information regarding a resource such as a Web service that contains the conversation. Information regarding the conversation that may be made available to the manager includes the number of failed messages processed by the conversation; the number of successful messages processed by the conversation; the total number of messages processed by the conversation; the number of other resources participating in the conversation; the identity of other resources participating in the conversation; an identifier of the conversation; the last message received; the last fault message received; and an identifier of the resource that contains the conversation.

Abstract: In some example embodiments, a apparatus and method are shown that include receiving a subscription instruction identifying a subscription to management information from a network device. Additionally, the apparatus and method includes periodically retrieving the management information from the network device. Further, the apparatus and method includes formatting the management information according to an export template. The apparatus and method also includes transmitting the management information utilizing a protocol. A apparatus and network device are also shown that include receiving a management information snapshot as part of a periodic subscription. This apparatus and method includes processing the management information snapshot based upon an export template, the export template defined as part of an IPFIX protocol.

Abstract: A code library, or “language interface pack” library, is provided that can be integrated into a video game to detect new localizations of the video game dynamically, and to locate and load the most appropriate localized resources depending on user preferences and available localized game content. If no localized content is available in the preferred language, a fallback system ensures that the game always receives the location of existing game content in another language.

Abstract: A system for managing a Web service comprises a service managed object associated with the Web service. The service managed object includes an interface configured to represent management features for the service to a manager. The manager can access information regarding the Web service via the interface such as a list of conversations associated with the Web service, and the relationship of the service managed object to other managed objects.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to allocate bandwidth between video and non-video services in access networks are disclosed. An example system comprises a customer-premises device, a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) to transmit to the customer-premises device a signal having a non-video portion and a video portion, a usage monitor at the customer-premises device to monitor a usage of the video portion and to send a parameter representative of the usage of the video portion to the DSLAM, and a policy manager at the DSLAM to adjust at the DSLAM a bandwidth allocation between the video portion and the non-video portion based on the parameter.

Abstract: A method and system for monitoring, controlling and diagnosing operation of a machine such as a business office machine including a facsimile machine, a copier, and a printer. When the speed of communication between the remote device and machine is not urgent, a connectionless mode of communication may be used. The form of connectionless communication is an electronic mail message transmitted over the Internet. However, when a condition needs urgent action, a direct connection is used for communication such as communication via a telephone or ISDN line. The information obtained from the machine is stored in one or more data bases within a company and information of the machine is shared between a service department, engineering and design department, manufacturing department, and marketing department. As communication over the Internet via electronic mail is not secure, the connectionless-mode messages transmitted using Internet electronic mail are encrypted.

Abstract: Techniques for monitoring one or more transaction instances in a real-time network are provided. The techniques include obtaining one or more system log files, wherein one or more footprints left by one or more transaction instances are recorded in the one or more system log files, obtaining a transaction model, wherein the transaction model comprises one or more transaction steps and a footprint pattern corresponding with each transaction step, and using the one or more system log files and the transaction model to monitor the one or more transaction instances in a real-time network at least one of an individual level and one or more aggregate levels.

Abstract: Techniques for monitoring one or more transaction instances in a real-time network are provided. Abstract: In one embodiment, an instant messaging screener is configured to (a) intercept an instant message destined to a user account, (b) parse the instant message to identify any universal resource locators (URLs) in the instant message, (c) check any URLs identified in the instant message against a URL ratings database to generate reputation data; and (d) perform a protective action if the reputation data indicates a bad reputation. In another embodiment, the instant messaging screener is configured to (a) monitor outgoing instant messages to identify any universal resource locators (URLs) therein which are associated with bad reputation web sites, (b) track historical results of said monitoring, and (c) determining whether said identified instant are being sent to all members, or a substantial portion of the members, of a contact list for a user account.
