  • Patent number: 11656204
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring a structure using an optical fiber based distributed acoustic sensor (DAS) extending along the length of the structure. The DAS is able to resolve a separate acoustic signal with a spatial resolution of 1 m along the length of the fibre, and hence is able to operate with an acoustic positioning system to determine the position of the riser with the same spatial resolution. In addition, the fiber can at the same time also detect much lower frequency mechanical vibrations in the riser, for example such as resonant mode vibrations induced by movement in the surrounding medium. By using vibration detection in combination with acoustic positioning then overall structure shape monitoring can be undertaken, which is useful for vortex induced vibration (VIV) visualisation, fatigue analysis, and a variety of other advanced purposes. The structure may be a sub-sea riser.

  • Patent number: 11507487
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method selects a percentage of a plurality hosts that are coupled together via a network fabric and calculates a number of workloads needed for the percentage of hosts based on a benchmark test to run. A plurality of data compute nodes are configured on one or more host pairs in the percentage of the plurality of hosts to send and receive the number of workloads through the network fabric to perform the benchmark test. A set of measurements is received for sending and receiving the workloads through the network fabric using the plurality of data compute nodes. The method increases the percentage of the plurality of hosts until the set of measurements fails a criteria or the percentage of the plurality of hosts is all of the plurality of hosts.

  • Patent number: 11460480
Abstract: Systems and methods for measuring turbulent gas flux using high-speed vertical wind speed measurements (e.g., on the order of 5-10 Hz or more frequently) and low-speed gas content measurements (e.g., on the order of 5 Hz or less frequently), without the need for the sophisticated and expensive high-speed hardware to separate gas samples (e.g., into accumulation bags) according to updrafts and downdrafts. A time series of high-speed vertical wind speed data is used as a guide to distinguish between updrafts and downdrafts. When vertical wind speed is upward (updraft), the low-speed gas content is recorded into a data structure in one location, or marked with one flag. When vertical wind speed is downward (downdraft), the low-speed gas content is recorded into a different location, or marked with a different flag. Eddy Accumulation or Relaxed Eddy Accumulation computations can be performed using the stored gas content data to determine gas flux.

  • Patent number: 11391857
Abstract: Systems and methods for attenuating residual acoustic energy in marine seismic data are disclosed. In one aspect, a number of gathers are recorded for consecutive activations of a marine source. Each recorded gather contains a record of acoustic reflections from a subterranean formation after activation of the source and residual acoustic energy from one or more previous activations of the source. The gathers are aligned to generate aligned gathers with the residual acoustic energy coherent between the aligned gathers and the reflections incoherent between the aligned gathers. A set of model gathers of the residual acoustic energy is generated from the aligned gathers. The model gathers are subtracted from one or more of the corresponding recorded gathers to generate one or more gathers with attenuated residual acoustic energy.

  • Patent number: 11378601
Abstract: The invention relates to an operational state determination apparatus (1) for determining whether a variation in a determined electrical parameter of an electrical network (2) is caused by a variation in an operational state of an electrical consumer of the electrical network. The electrical network comprises multiple electrical consumers (3, 4, 5) and a voltage source (6), wherein a variation classification unit (10) determines whether a variation in the determined electrical parameter of the electrical network is caused by a variation in the operational state of an electrical consumer of the network depending on a decision variable which depends on a variation in a measured voltage and a variation in a measured current of the electrical network. This determination can be performed, without directly using the variation in the determined electrical parameter of the electrical network and is therefore less influenced by random voltage fluctuations in the electrical network.

  • Patent number: 11307264
Abstract: Phase selection for traveling wave fault detection systems is disclosed herein. Intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) may be used to monitor and protect electric power delivery systems by detecting and acting upon traveling waves. A phase of the electric power delivery system may be selected based on the relative polarity of the traveling waves detected. The amplitude and/or polarity of the selected phase may be compared with the amplitudes and/or polarities of the other phases to determine a fault condition. For instance, the IED may determine a single-phase-to-ground fault based on the relative polarities and magnitudes of the detected traveling waves, send a protective action to the identified faulted phase, and/or continue to monitor the system for a continuation of the event or identification of a different event, such as a three-phase fault, using incremental quantities.

  • Patent number: 11287550
Abstract: Embodiments relate to leads and polynyas forecasting. Initially observed ice forecast data is obtained for a geographic area of interest, which is then used to generate an ice grid based on the observed ice data, where the ice grid includes grid cells that map polar regions. At this stage, daily opening rates are determined based on the ice grid, where each daily opening rate indicates an opening speed of a corresponding ice event, and daily convergence strain rates are determined based on the ice grid, where each daily convergence strain rate indicates a convergence of the corresponding ice event. For each day, a daily opening rate is weighted and then adjusting by a daily convergence strain rate. A forecasted opening rate on a target date is determined based on the weighted, adjusted daily opening rates. Predicted openings of the polar region can be rendered based on the forecasted opening rate.
