  • Patent number: 11529258
Abstract: The present technology is directed to adjustable shunts for treating glaucoma. In particular, some embodiments provide shunts having a plurality of individually actuatable flow control elements that can control the flow of fluid through associated ports and/or flow lumens. For example, each individually actuatable flow control element can be actuated to block and/or unblock a corresponding port and/or flow lumen. Accordingly, the shunts described herein can be manipulated into a variety of configurations that provide different drainage rates based on whether the ports and/or flow lumens are blocked or unblocked, therefore providing a titratable glaucoma therapy for draining aqueous from the anterior chamber of the eye.

  • Patent number: 11517477
Abstract: The present technology is directed to adjustable flow glaucoma shunts and methods for making and using such devices. In many of the embodiments described herein, the shunts include a generally flat frame. The frame can include an elongated portion having a lumen extending therethrough and a bladder portion defining an interior chamber that is in fluid communication with the lumen. When implanted in a patient's eye, aqueous can drain from the anterior chamber to a target outflow location via the lumen and interior chamber. In some embodiments, the shunts include a flow control assembly positioned within the interior chamber of the bladder portion to control the flow of aqueous through the lumen.

  • Patent number: 11504509
Abstract: Embodiments for a cerebrospinal fluid flow detector for detecting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid are disclosed. In some embodiments, the cerebrospinal fluid flow detector includes a casing with a rotatable wheel having a plurality of radially extending arms disposed therein. The rotatable wheel is in communication with a channel having a distal end in communication with an inlet port and a proximal end in communication with an outlet port such that the flow of cerebrospinal fluid through the channel causes the rotatable wheel to rotate. In some embodiments, each radially extending arm includes at least one radiopaque marker in which movement of the rotatable wheel caused by fluid flow through the channel allows an X-ray imaging apparatus to detect the difference in position of a respective radiopaque marker at multiple times caused by rotation of the rotatable wheel.

  • Patent number: 11491271
Abstract: A method controls a device for extracorporeal blood gas exchange. The device has a membrane as a gas-liquid barrier between a bloodstream and a gas stream. The membrane further makes possible a passing over of the carbon dioxide content from the bloodstream into the gas stream. The device has at least one actuator. A change in a value of an operating parameter of the actuator brings about a change in a value of the carbon dioxide content that passes over from the bloodstream into the gas stream. The method further includes providing breathing gas information that indicates a carbon dioxide concentration in breathing gas and providing a control signal, which indicates a request for setting a value of the operating parameter and changing of the value of the operating parameter as a function of the carbon dioxide concentration in the breathing gas.

  • Patent number: 11464959
Abstract: A method and apparatus are aimed to improve arteriovenous fistula maturation rate by treating the fistula with a crosslink agent solution (fixative solution). The fixative solution will crosslink proteins and biomolecules, allowing formation of crosslinks that stabilize or stable tissue structure. The method and apparatus will address factors that contribute to arteriovenous fistula maturation failure by stopping the neointimal hyperplasia growth after vascular injury and stabilizing the venous wall to prevent the lumen from narrowing.

  • Patent number: 11426503
Abstract: Techniques and systems for determining an arteriovenous (AV) fistula maturation in a patient may include detecting a first series of oxygen saturation levels of the patient at a central venous catheter (CVC) associated with a first series of hemodialysis treatments prior to the AV fistula implantation are described. The AV fistula may then be implanted in the patient. A second series of oxygen saturation levels of the patient at the CVC associated with a second series of hemodialysis treatments may be detected. The second series of oxygen saturation levels may be compared to a stable threshold mature AV fistula oxygen saturation level. Among other determinations from the comparison, in response to one or more of the second series of oxygen saturation levels meeting or exceeding the stable threshold mature AV fistula oxygen saturation level, determining the AV fistula is mature. Other embodiments are described.
