Abstract: A category classification processing device includes a search unit that stores, as a search keyword log assembly, Q&A examples, which are actually referred to by a client, together with keywords; and a category extracting unit that obtains keyword storage frequencies expressing a number of times each of the keywords, which are recorded together with the Q&A examples in the search keyword logs, is stored for each of the Q&A examples, extracts, as category candidates of each of the Q&A examples, an m number of top keywords (m being a positive integer) in a descending order of the keyword storage frequency, uses the extracted category candidates as categories, and associates the categories with the Q&A examples.

Abstract: Large files in a file system are mapped by extents of contiguous indirect blocks in order to reduce the time for read or write access to the large files while allowing allocation of data blocks one at a time. The inode of a file includes an indication of whether file mapping metadata of the file includes either an extent of contiguous indirect blocks or a tree of blocks. In a preferred mapping scheme, an inode contains an array of block pointer entries, and each entry includes a flag indicating whether the block pointer is pointing to either an extent of indirect blocks or a tree of blocks. For sharing of data blocks between files, the block pointer fields of the indirect blocks each contain an ownership flag indicating whether the pointed-to block is shared or not.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to evaluate a search engine using search results retrieved from a plurality of different search engines. For example, a controller can randomly distribute a set of pre-formulated queries to a plurality of computers to query the search engines at random times to obtain search results and combine the search results to evaluate the completeness of a query result provided by a particular search engine. The controller may simulate the random queries from users using a set of computers and may reduce the burden on the search engines by spreading out the query activities over a period of time, such as a month.

Abstract: A method for enhancing fast backward performance includes: with regard to a plurality of offsets of a multimedia file, respectively storing corresponding cluster numbers into a first buffering region/buffer, where the offsets respectively correspond to different playback time points, and the cluster numbers respectively represent a plurality of clusters belonging to the multimedia file; and utilizing at least one portion of the offsets and the cluster numbers to perform a fast backward operation of the multimedia file. An associated electronic device is further provided.

Abstract: A method and system for managing semantic and syntactic metadata. Heterogeneous data is received. After the heterogeneous data is received, the semantic metadata associated with the received heterogeneous data is captured and syntactic metadata associated with the received heterogeneous data is captured. The semantic metadata describes contextually relevant or domain-specific information about data based on an industry-specific or enterprise-specific metadata model or ontology. The syntactic metadata included grammatical rules and structural patterns governing an ordered use of formats and arrangement pertaining to specified data. The received heterogeneous data and said captured semantic metadata and said syntactic metadata are logically linked. The heterogeneous data is stored in a repository.

Abstract: A request for at least a portion of a business object is received by a database from a client in a first half of a roundtrip between the client and the database. Each of the tables includes a primary key column and a plurality of records. The primary key column provides, for each record in the table, a primary key for one of a plurality of business objects. Thereafter, the database identifies records within a set of tables among a larger number of tables in the database by matching a primary key associated with the business object with the primary key in the primary key column. Once this identification has been made, the database obtains all values responsive to the request from the identified record and transmits, in a second half of the roundtrip between the client and the database, the obtained values for the business object to the client.

Abstract: A network device such as a router or a switch is comprised of a control module and a plurality of physical line cards. The control module includes a control processor virtual machine, a plurality of route processing virtual machines and one or more instances of a line card virtual machine. The line card virtual machine operates to receive routing information base update information, to modify the routing information base according to the update information and to update each instance of a plurality of forwarding information bases included on each of the physical line cards.

Abstract: System and method for matching a pattern are provided. The pattern matching method includes performing a sub pattern matching operation to match at least one sub data of a plurality of sub data of a target data with a pre-stored pattern data, and performing a full pattern matching operation to determine whether the target data is identical to at least the pre-stored pattern data by referring to a result of the sub pattern matching operation, and wherein the full pattern matching operation is performed or not performed according to a type of the pre-stored pattern data. Accordingly, an accurate matching operation is performed with respect to the target data of various patterns.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, system, and computer program product for generating vector-based similarity scores in text document comparisons considering confounding effects of document length. Vector-based methods for comparing the semantic similarity between texts (such as Content Vector Analysis and Random Indexing) have a characteristic which may reduce their usefulness for some applications: the similarity estimates they produce are strongly correlated with the lengths of the texts compared. The statistical basis for this confound is described, and suggests the application of a pivoted normalization method from information retrieval to correct for the effect of document length. In two text categorization experiments, Random Indexing similarity scores using pivoted normalization are shown to perform significantly better than standard vector-based similarity estimation methods.

Abstract: A cluster of computer system nodes share direct read/write access to storage devices via a storage area network using a cluster filesystem and operating system implementing DMAPI. Threads executing on a metadata client know when a DMAPI event is required, and generate the DMAPI event on their own initiative when necessary. A metadata server maintains DMAPI queues. If the metadata server relocates to another host, the DMAPI events in the DMAPI queues are moved transparently to users.

Abstract: A data recovery system includes a plurality of customer computers to be backed-up, each customer computer running a client software to communicate back-up data files; a system management platform coupled to the client software over the Internet, the system management platform receiving inputs from a web user portal to control operations of the client software and the system management platform to back up the customer computer; and two or more data storage silos, each including: a plurality of storage directors communicating with the client software; and a clustered data storage array.

The lost time includes a difference between a time at which the technician received one of the status messages and a time at which the technician is dispatched to a next job. Abstract: A device receives, from a voicemail server, log information associated with voicemail transactions performed by the voicemail server, and determines data elements, of the log information, to be aggregated. The device also aggregates the determined data elements of the log information, determines a time period to provide the aggregated log information to a database for storage, and provides the aggregated log information to the database at the determined time period.

Abstract: According to some embodiments, a system and method for a parallel join of relational data tables may be provided by calculating, by a plurality of concurrently executing execution threads, hash values for join columns of a first input table and a second input table; storing the calculated hash values in a set of disjoint thread-local hash maps for each of the first input table and the second input table; merging the set of thread-local hash maps of the first input table, by a second plurality of execution threads operating concurrently, to produce a set of merged hash maps; comparing each entry of the merged hash maps to each entry of the set of thread-local hash maps for the second input table to determine whether there is a match, according to a join type; and generating an output table including matches as determined by the comparing.

Abstract: A media stream, such as a news broadcast, is supplemented with documents that are relevant to the media stream. The documents may be web pages returned from a search engine. A search query generation component generates search queries for the search engine based on the media stream. A post processing component may re-rank and/or filter the documents to enhance the viewing experience for the user.

Abstract: An ordered sequence of two or more facet provider objects are associated and each is configured to select successive subsets of data in a registry via a database upon a user request to create and configure a faceted selection. Upon a user selection of a save feature, each associated facet provider object is serialized in the ordered sequence, and each serialization is collected into an ordered list of serializations and saved. The serialization of each facet provider object is performed by one of the respective facet provider object and a facet provider object of a same type as the respective facet provider object. A selection statement is constructed from the associated facet provider objects in the ordered sequence. A difference between the constructed selection statement and an actual selection statement is calculated and the selection statement difference is appended to the saved ordered list of serializations.

The online VMs are VMs that are powered on, and the offline VMs are VMs that are powered off. The method also includes maintaining a database of the indexed data and/or metadata in the online VMs, the offline VMs, the virtual applications, and/or the snapshots thereof to enable a comprehensive search result to a search query through the search architecture. The database is associated with the search architecture.

The present invention can perform the tracking action using the given name of the saved attachment file.

Abstract: A method and system for providing up-to-date monitoring results in a virtual machine environment are described. In one embodiment, a control server executes a query pertaining to one or more objects in a virtual machine system, and provides a result of the query to a client for presentation to a user in a graphical user interface (GUI). The control server then periodically re-executes the query to obtain up-to-date information for the objects in the virtual machine system. Upon each re-execution of the query, the control server compares a new result of the query with a previous result of the query to determine whether the up-to-date information for the objects in the virtual machine system has changed. If so, the control server provides the new result of the query to the client. If not, the control server refrains from providing the new result of the query to the client.
