  • Patent number: 7507191
Abstract: A novel method and device for exercising the rotary torso muscles of the human body, wherein the device is an exercise machine on which a user's body is supported in a generally supine position. The machine is comprised of a frame structure with a rotatable upper torso support (including a head and back rest), a rotatable lower torso support (including a seat) and feet stabilizing rollers, aligned longitudinally. The device further comprises a knee cushion for rotating the lower torso support and a peg upon a weight support arm for holding free weights that impart resistance against the rotation of the upper and lower torso supports. In an alternate embodiment, additional resistance to the rotation movement is provided by a belt mechanism which wraps around a disk connected to the axle of the upper torso support and up through the weight support arm upon which free weights are placed.

  • Patent number: 7494454
Abstract: The present invention describes a specialized exercise apparatus and method for use that targets the muscles in and around the abdominal, oblique muscles and mid section of the body. The machine is comprised of a flat platform upon which an individual stands while grasping a pair of handlebars that are positioned at waist height. The handle bars are attached to the top of a vertical riser that extends downwardly and is attached to a pair of horizontal rotating pivot arms. The pivot arms are attached to the center of a rotating power pulley horizontally suspended by bearings below the forward area of said platform. The power pulley is connected by a belt to a resistance mechanism, such as a flywheel or turbine fan, again suspended by bearings, below the rear portion of said platform. In the flywheel adaptation of this invention, additional resistance is provided by an adjustable magnet that is controlled by a lever mounted to the side of the vertical riser.

  • Patent number: 7488281
Abstract: Exercise apparatus (10) for training a user's abdominal muscles comprises a lever frame (11) linked to a support frame (12) at a pivot (13). The lever frame (11) has first and second arms (14,15) joined at a junction (16) also forming a fulcrum for the lever frame (11). The support frame (12) consists of a base member (22) having a seat portion (23) associated with, and laterally rotatable relative to, the base member (22). The apparatus (10) may be used to perform either simple or compound abdominal muscles training exercises. In a simple exercise, the user?s abdominal muscles are exercised by pushing the first arm (14) away from the user's body to rotate the lever frame (11) about its fulcrum (16), causing the seat portion (23) associated with the base member (22) to lift and tilt. In a compound exercise, the user's obliques and transversus abdominal muscles are exercised by performing an abdominal twisting motion to cause the seat portion (23) to rotate relative to the base member (22).

  • Patent number: 7488274
Abstract: A set of generally rectangular flat plates for aquatic exercise that create drag when moved through a body of water. Each flat plate is provided with an arcuate finger slot for receiving the user's four fingers and an aperture for receiving their thumb. The finger slot and thumb aperture are strategically located such that when the plate is gripped, the center of the palm of the user's hand lays over the center of the flat plate on one side and the fingers and thumb are folded over to engage the opposite side and the user's forearm lays parallel to and over the longitudinal center line of the flat plate. Drag produced by moving the flat plate through the water is transferred to the center of the flat plate and the center of that force passes through the center of the palm of the hand.
