    Abstract: The body panels of the present invention are designed to crumple in a predisposed manner upon impact. The body panels are preferably made from a polymeric material. Further, the body panels can include a sheet of colored material attached to the polymeric material so that no painting of the panel is necessary. Preferably, the colored material is on an exterior surface of the panel. The colored material could be made from a thermoplastic with molded in color. The preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a polymeric material reinforced with spaced reinforcing fibers. An alternative embodiment of the body panel includes a sheet of polymeric material that is reinforced with spaced mechanical ribs that are preferably molded into the sheet of material. Another alternative embodiment of the body panel includes alternating sections of high density polymeric foam and low density polymeric foam.

The upper portion of the hood lock stay is disposed so as to cover the opening of the opened cross-section of the radiator core support upper member so that a box shape is formed. The venting structure includes at least one vent located on the protective cover at a predetermined position, a hood loosely shielding the vent, and an outward opened V-sectioned bag located between the vent and the hood and having through holes spaced near an upper front edge to communicate with the vent, allowing residual heat and moisture to escape from the protective cover via the vent while external rainwater is stopped by the V-sectioned bag from invading the protective cover via the vent. The fastening structure includes a plurality of fixing hooks, each of which includes a plate for connecting to the protective cover via a tie-down loop and a hook provided on the plate for hooking to the vehicle or a hauler thereof, so that the protective cover is firmly tied to the vehicle or the trailer.

The two-section side pieces can also be fabricated from front side pieces and rear side pieces, edges of which are designed with non-straight convex arc line cut edges, and vertically protruding regions are formed after joining the edges. Space within the outward expanding, curved protruding regions is used to contain rear-view mirrors of the car body when covering the car body with the car cover, thereby achieving a structure that is easy to manufacture and reduces manufacturing cost. Moreover, the car cover has universal suitability for many different car models and provides the convenience of covering and uncovering.

The cover member has first and second lip portions extending from the first and second transverse free ends of the carrier member, respectively, to form seals between the roof ditch molding and the drainage groove.

The eyelets and the metal strips are positioned within sleeves or channels which are made integral to the covering. The covering includes a reflective fabric that is substantially opaque to sunlight.

The second longitudinal contacting surface extends substantially parallel to the first longitudinal contacting surface, and is laterally spaced from the first longitudinal contacting surface to form an uninterrupted air space between the first and second longitudinal contacting surfaces. Thus, the roof ditch molding fastener is easily positioned in place with respect to the vehicle body by using the first and second longitudinal contacting surfaces. Moreover, since the uninterrupted space is formed between the first and second longitudinal surfaces, a corrosion of a portion between the roof ditch molding fastener and the vehicle body can be prevented.

Mounts extend from the lower surface that are spaced apart from one another. Flexible trim extends along side edges of the molding between the first and second ends. In addition, a roof rack member extends from the upper surface of the molding. During use, the molding is mounted to the vehicle at a plurality of discrete locations, e.g., by the mounts, such that the molding extends along the ditch without touching the shoulders. The trim extends from the side edges to contact the shoulders of the ditch.
