Abstract: A system for determining a patient benefits eligibility under a healthcare assistance program. Initial patient information, such as the patient's date of birth, household members, medical condition including pregnancy, and income and financial resources, if available, is used to make an initial determination as to whether the patient is likely to qualify for benefits. If the initial patient information satisfies one of the well-established criteria or the probability models, additional patient information is obtained, typically including additional details about the patient's income and financial resources, as well as the income and financial resources of the patient's household. The patient information is compared to the eligibility requirements for the assistance program. If the comparison indicates that it is likely that the patient will qualify for benefits under the assistance program, then an application for the assistance program is provided and the application is completed and submitted.

Abstract: Automatically establishing a connection with an emergency services server is provided. In response to receiving an emergency signal from a mobile communication device, a connection with the mobile communication device is established by a communications server. Location data, audio input data, and visual input data from the mobile communication device is received by the communications server. Personal data for an owner of the mobile communication device is retrieved by the communications server from a storage device connected to a network. A connection with an emergency services server for a current locale of the mobile communication device is automatically established by the communications server. Then, the emergency signal, location data, audio input data, and visual input data received from the mobile communication device, along with the retrieved personal data, is transmitted by the communications server to the emergency services server for use by emergency service personnel.

Abstract: A method of medical treatment review. The method can include the steps of receiving patient data into a patient database in which the patient data at least includes a diagnosis of the patient and providing one or more treatment protocols for the patient for selection by a treating provider in which the treatment protocols are pre-approved for the patient diagnosis. The method can also include the steps of analyzing a selection of a treatment protocol by the treating provider and generating an authorization of the selected treatment protocol based on predefined criteria. Generating the authorization of the selected treatment protocol can include generating the authorization without any peer review if the selected protocol meets the predefined criteria or generating the authorization following peer review if the selected protocol does not meet the predefined criteria.

Abstract: A pharmacy benefits management system and method. A processor server has claim information relating to pharmacy benefits claims, and information relating to a claims processing formulary stored therein. A provider server has pharmacy benefits plan structure information stored therein. A management server has price information relating drugs in various classes and a processing module for correlating the claim information with the benefits plan structure information and the formulary information to identify drugs dispensed to patients, expenses associated with the drugs in accordance with the pharmacy benefits plan structure information, alternative drugs in the same class as the drugs and expenses associated with the alternative drugs.

Abstract: A method for monitoring patient compliance to medical therapy that includes repeatedly measuring therapy compliance of a patient, uploading the therapy compliance measurements to a personal computer, connecting a central server using the personal computer, sending the uploaded therapy compliance measurements from the personal computer to the central server, providing a number of predetermined compliance threshold amounts, comparing the sent therapy compliance measurements with the number of predetermined compliance thresholds corresponding to the patient, determining a need and level of intervention based on the result of the comparing and reporting the determined need for intervention to a health professional corresponding to the patient and determined level.

Abstract: A method of dispensing a product is disclosed. The product has associated packaging. The packaging has disposed thereon coded data. The coded data is indicative of an identity of the product. The coded data is sensed by a sensing device and indicating data indicative of the identity of the product is generated based on the sensed coded data. The coded data is arranged in accordance with a layout having n-fold rotational symmetry. The layout including n sub-layouts rotated 1/n revolutions apart about a center of rotation. A processor receives the indicating data from the sensing device and determines at least one criterion for dispensing the product. The processor causes the product to be dispensed when the at least one criterion is satisfied.

Abstract: A computing device, system, method and machine readable medium for managing beds of a healthcare facility is provided. A system includes a client device and a server computing device. The client device may generate a request to assign a bed to a patient, present a list of beds to assign the patient, and receive a selection that identifies a bed of the list of beds. The server computing device may generate the list of beds presented by the client device in response to the request. The server computing device may retrieve an electronic medical record for the patient, and obtain healthcare attributes for the patient from the electronic medical record. The server computing device may generate the list based upon capabilities of a plurality of beds and the healthcare attributes of the patient retrieved from the electronic medical record. The server computing device may further assign to the patient the bed identified by the selection.

Abstract: A method of providing a bridge life insurance policy includes receiving a request for a life insurance policy having a coverage amount, wherein approval of the request requires completion of an external process, and determining that the customer is a pre-existing customer of an organization associated with the life insurance policy. The method also includes determining, using a processor, that the customer meets eligibility requirements for a bridge life insurance policy and obtaining financial information associated with the customer from the organization associated with the life insurance policy. The method further includes defining a coverage amount for the bridge life insurance policy less than or equal to the coverage amount of the life insurance policy and issuing the bridge life insurance policy to the customer. Additionally, the method includes initiating the external process, issuing the life insurance policy, and terminating the bridge life insurance policy.

Abstract: The instant invention relates to a system and method for ensuring and verifying the identity of all parties involved in an online marketplace transaction involving buyers, sellers, and third parties, such as a marketplace. Anonymous transactions are supported by the present invention. Verification is provided and insurance may be purchased in accordance with the instant invention guaranteeing that the parties are who they represent themselves to be and are capable of entering into the transaction, thereby facilitating completion of the online transaction.

Abstract: An information management system for restricting access to personal data in compliance with law or regulation includes a database having restricted records stored therein, at least one of the records including an identification of a client or group of clients about whom said record concerns. A computer system under the control of a trusted information broker is configured to receive via a communication medium a request initiated by a requester for access to at least one of the restricted records in the database, the request including an identification of the requester. The computer system is further configured to transmit a request for consent to the client and receive an indication from the client that the client consents or does not consent to access to the restricted record by the requestor. The computer system grants or denies access to the restricted records based upon the indication from the client.

Abstract: The methods and systems described herein may involve providing a device, determining at least one lifeotype of at least one individual in association with the device, analyzing the at least one lifeotype, and modifying at least one attribute of the device based on the analysis. The methods and systems described herein may involve providing a computer program that operates on a data structure that includes at least one of life byte data and lifeotype data, and providing an interface to such computer program whereby a system may access the computer program to obtain at least one of the life byte data and the lifeotype data.

Abstract: This invention provides a method of improving operational effectiveness in a clinical trial, the method comprises the steps of: obtaining historical clinical trial operation data for a disease condition; normalizing data from different clinical trials; grouping different clinical trials into groups; and calculating Site Effectiveness Index (SEI), wherein the SEI is useful for improving operational effectiveness in a clinical trial. In one embodiment, using the method disclosed herein would result in reducing the cost for the clinical trial.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for facilitating placement of health care order entry is provided. The method includes receiving input indicative of a desired healthcare order. The order has certain terms therein that are normalized. The method also finds possible order matches for the normalized terms, and calculates a rough score for the possible order matches. The method refines the rough score with a rough score adjustment, and then ranks the found possible order matches from the most-likely to match the desired order to the least-likely based upon the refined rough score. These possible order matches can then be displayed to the user for selection.

Abstract: A computer system that extracts health care data from one or more health care payors to identify meaningful relationships or patterns in treatments to compare the effectiveness of various treatment of specific diseases is provided. This computer system includes a computer and a staging database. The computer is configured to communicate with one or more payor computer systems of a type that includes one or more databases storing records of the health care data from one or more payors over the Internet. The staging database is in communication with the computer and is configured to receive the health care data from each of the payor computer systems. The health care data from each of the payor computer systems is configured to be converted into a normalized format. The normalized data is the made available to determine comparative effectiveness of various treatments of specific diseases.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a Medicare Part D Pharmacy Benefits Calculator. A computer user inputs data for prescriptions to be purchased by a prospective insured for a plan period. The prescription data includes a quantity, a days supply, and a number of fills. The data for each prescription the user enters is used to calculate anticipated out-of-pocket costs for the prescriptions for one or more pharmacy benefits plans available to the prospective insured. The cost data is presented to the user in a way that illustrates how out-of-pocket costs will vary over the course of a plan period. The user may view costs for alternative drugs and alternatives sources of drugs. The user may vary and expand the presentation of the cost data to better understand the available plan benefits. The invention helps prospective insureds decide among alternative Medicare Part D pharmacy benefits plans offered by one or more insurance companies.

Abstract: A method of processing drug claims, by: (a) receiving a claim; (b) sorting the claim for processing by determining which processed drug list the claim belongs with; and then (c) processing the claim according to the particular processed drug list to which the claim belongs. A hierarchy of drug lists are used in a preferred order. If the drug is found on the first drug list, the system then moves directly to the processing stage. However, if the drug is not found on the first list, the system checks whether the drug is on the second drug list. If the drug is found on the second drug list, the system then moves directly to the processing stage, etc.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed which generate surgical plans that have been customized for a particular patient. One such system includes a client, a surgical plan system and a computer assisted orthopaedic surgery system. The client generates a surgical plan request that includes data relevant to a patient and an orthopaedic surgical procedure to be performed upon the patient. The surgical plan system receives the surgical plan request and generates a surgical plan that has been customized based upon the data of the surgical plan request. The computer assisted orthopaedic surgery system assists a surgeon performing the orthopaedic surgical procedure per the surgical plan generated by the surgical plan system.

Abstract: A data processing system and method that, in some cases, include an EMR system and a web server. In some cases, the EMR system includes a plurality of electronic medical records for a plurality of patients. One or more of the electronic medical records may include a URL or HTTP Post message that defines a path to a web-based resource, such as a treatment algorithm or medical calculator. In some embodiments, the URL and/or HTTP Post message is constructed based on information in a patient's medical record.

Abstract: Systems, methods and devices for managing patient medication data which include, in one implementation, receiving medication data for a patient from multiple sources; reconciling the medication data from multiple sources to generate a reconciled list of medications for the patient; presenting the reconciled list to the patient in a user-interface; identifying a potential cost savings change for a prescribed medication on the list; presenting an indication of the cost savings change to the patient in the user-interface; receiving a selection of the potential cost savings for the prescribed medication from the patient; in response to receiving the selection, transmitting via a network a request for the cost savings change to a health-care professional; receiving an approval of the cost savings; and presenting to the patient an updated medication list, the updated the medication list updated according to the approval.
