  • Patent number: 6882528
Abstract: A shock-avoiding structure for hard disk having four threaded apertures in four corners is disclosed. The device comprises a plurality of fasteners each having a first portion driven into the aperture and a second portion projected from the hard disk; a parallelepiped chassis in a computer case for receiving the hard disk, the chassis including a plurality of recesses on either side; and a plurality of elongated shock absorbing members formed of elastomeric material, each having a first section end urged against the second portion of the fastener, a second section projected from the side of the chassis, and an intermediate, annular groove anchored on the recess for suspending the hard disk in the chassis. An assembly order of the fasteners and the shock absorbing members is not critical in a manufacturing process, thus significantly increasing yield. The hard disk can also be configured as a removable one.

  • Patent number: 6873524
Abstract: A data storage device includes a housing in which is mounted a data storage unit, such as a hard disk drive. Pads serve as shock mounts at the corners of the data storage unit and separate the data storage unit and the housing. A flex circuit electrically couples the data storage unit and a connector at the front of the device. The flex circuit has, e.g., an ā€œNā€ shape configuration, which advantageously provides flexibility in many directions. The data storage device may convert the number of pin connections from the data storage unit to a different number of pin connections. A docking module that receives the portable data storage device may also convert the number of pin connections from the data storage device to a different number of pin connections used by a host system. The docking module includes a slide for receiving and ejecting the portable data storage device.

  • Patent number: 6873528
Abstract: A heat dissipation element which can be shaped as a flat plate for transfer of heat to the opposite side of a mounting channel in a chassis for holding circuit cards. Circuit cards are typically held in place in channels in a chassis by an expansion type retention device. The circuit cards also include a heat frame for collecting the heat produced by the card components and channeling the heat from the card through the heat frame to the chassis. The retention device presses the heat frame in to thermal contact with one side of the channel. The heat dissipation plate is held in thermal contact with the other side of the channel, providing a second additional heat path to channel heat away from individual components, the circuit card and/or the heat frame.

  • Patent number: 6865077
Abstract: A personal computer provided with heat-generating parts such as a CPU, a cooling unit that releases the heat generated by the heat-generating part to the outside of the personal computer has a container structure so that the cooling liquid in the interior does not leak to the outside. Also, part of the container structure is provided with a heat connection part for receiving the heat transferred from the outside of the cooling unit. Furthermore, there is provided means of heat transfer for transferring the heat generated by the heat-generating part to the cooling unit, one end of this means of heat transfer being thermally connected to the heat connection part of the cooling unit and the other end thereof being thermally connected to the heat-generating part. This prevents troubles in the personal computer due to the moisture permeation of the cooling liquid of cooling unit and leakage of the cooling liquid. Also, disassembly and assembly is made easy by forming the cooling unit as a separate structure.
