  • Patent number: 11609303
Abstract: A novel and useful system and method by which radar angle and range resolution are significantly improved without increasing complexity in critical hardware parts. A multi-pulse methodology is described in which each pulse contains partial angular and range information consisting of a portion of the total CPI bandwidth, termed multiband chirp. Each chirp has significantly reduced fractional bandwidth relative to monoband processing. Each chirp contains angular information that fills only a portion of the ‘virtual array’, while the full virtual array information is contained across the CPI. This is done using only a single transmission antenna per pulse, thus significantly simplifying MIMO hardware realization, referred to as antenna-multiplexing (AM). Techniques for generating the multiband chirps as well as receiving and generating improved fine range-Doppler data maps. A windowing technique deployed in the transmitter as opposed to the receiver is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11592546
Abstract: An airborne radar system and signal interpretation approach that detects slow moving ground targets using angle and Doppler of Keystone formatting process, and is referred to as Angle-Doppler Keystone Formatting (ADK). ADK collapses the clutter ridge to a constant Doppler or to a constant angle, thereby transforming a clutter ridge in angle-Doppler space into a horizontal line of constant Doppler or a vertical line of constant angle. Clutter may then be filtered more effectively, such as by using multiple beams as the source of STAP training data or by using multiple Doppler bins.

Abstract: A radar system is disclosed that provides joint object detection and communication capabilities. The radar system includes a communication signal generator that provides a communication signal, a pre-distortion module that applies a pre-distortion to the communication signal to provide a pre-distorted communication signal, a linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal generator that provides a LFM signal, and a mixer that mixes the pre-distorted communication signal onto the LFM signal to provide a radar signal to be transmitted by the radar system. The radar system further includes an all-pass filter that filters a plurality of de-ramped reflected images of the radar signal to provide a filtered signal. Each de-ramped reflected image includes an associated image of the pre-distorted communication signal. The all-pass filter provides a linear group delay, and a non-linear phase response. The pre-distortion is an inverse of the non-linear phase response of the all-pass filter.

  • Patent number: 11531083
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for systems and methods to provide a staggered multichannel transducer in a ranging system configured to perform remote sensing. The staggered multichannel transducer may extend in a first direction and one or more transducer elements of the array may offset from the other transducer elements in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The staggered arrangement of the transducer elements may improve remote sensing performance to produce accurate remote sensing data and/or imagery. The staggered arrangement also may reduce a number of transducer elements used in the transducer array which reduce the cost and complexity of the transducer array. Further, the staggered arrangement in a linear transducer array also allows for two-dimensional beam forming.
