  • Patent number: 9917757
Abstract: Examples of the present invention present a method of determining the network connectivity technology being used in a network link. The method sends test packets from the router to an end device, such as a set-top box, and measures the latency in the received packets at the end device. The packets are gradually increased in size. The increasing packet size effectively results in increasing the load on the network link between the router and the end device. The latency characteristics vary as a function of packet size (representing increasing network load), and result in a signature or “fingerprint” for the network connectivity technology being used for the link, across the load cycle. The signature can be compared to predetermined models to identify the specific technology used. The technique can be enabled using software modules installed at the gateway/router and at the end-point, such as a set-top box.

  • Patent number: 9906972
Abstract: A mobile station associated with a base station determines a measure of the quality of a communication link between the mobile station and the base station. The measure is determined by comparing either i) an expected data rate for communications over the link and an actual data rate of communications over the link, wherein the expected data rate takes into account radio frequency (RF) power levels of signals received at the mobile station over the link, or ii) an expected RF power level for communications over the link and RF power levels of signals received at the mobile station over the link, wherein the expected RF power level takes into account the actual data rate of communications over the link. This measure of the quality of the link may be a factor in triggering the mobile station to initiate a handoff.

  • Patent number: 9906504
Abstract: An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) data communication system comprises OFDM subsystems. A trusted OFDM subsystem receives trust challenge data and encodes the trust challenge data with a physically-embedded read-only trust key to generate encoded trust data. The trusted OFDM subsystem transfers the encoded trust data. The trusted OFDM subsystem receives user data into a trusted network receive buffer system and transfers a resource request to an access OFDM subsystem. The access OFDM subsystem receives the resource request and allocates and indicates trusted OFDM resource blocks to the trusted OFDM subsystem. The trusted OFDM subsystem schedules the user data using the trusted OFDM resource blocks and transfers the user data from the trusted network receive buffer system to a trusted Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) transmit buffer system. The trusted OFDM subsystem transfers the user data from the trusted CPRI transmit buffer system to a CPRI communication system.

  • Patent number: 9887851
Abstract: A novel method of conducting multicast traffic in a network is provided. The network includes multiple endpoints that receive messages from the network and generate messages for the network. The endpoints are located in different segments of the network, each segment including one or more of the endpoints. For a source endpoint to replicate a particular message (e.g., a data packet) for all endpoints belonging to a particular replication group (i.e., multicast group) within the network, the source endpoint replicates the particular message to each endpoint within the source endpoint's own segment and to a proxy endpoint in each of the other segments. Each proxy endpoint in turn replicates the particular message to all endpoints belonging to the particular replication group within the proxy endpoint's own segment.

  • Patent number: 9871729
Abstract: A non-transitory computer program product with computer readable program code for system detection and flow control. The throughput and response time of the system are acquired, where the throughput reflects the number of requests from outside the system that has been processed by the system. The response time reflects time required by the system to process requests from outside the system. Acquiring throughput and response time includes directly sampling the throughput and the response time of the system; and conducting noise filtering on the sampled throughput and response time. A system performance characteristic parameter based on the filtered throughput and response time is obtained and is used to describe congestion condition of the system to determine whether there is a bottleneck in the system. Detecting a bottleneck and flow control is provided in a simple and effective way to ensure that requests are processed in time.

  • Patent number: 9866871
Abstract: Various new and non-obvious apparatus and methods for using frame caching to improve packet loss recovery are disclosed. One of the disclosed embodiments is a method for using periodical and synchronized frame caching within an encoder and its corresponding decoder. When the decoder discovers packet loss, it informs the encoder which then generates a frame based on one of the shared frames stored at both the encoder and the decoder. When the decoder receives this generated frame it can decode it using its locally cached frame.

  • Patent number: 9860110
Abstract: Techniques are described for enhancements to Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) to support multicast only fast re-route (MoFRR) over a remote loop free alternate (RLFA) backup path in a network. This disclosure describes a modified PIM control message having a new PIM message type and an additional field to indicate an address of a RLFA network device in the RLFA backup path. According to techniques of this disclosure, network devices along the RLFA backup path are configured to forward the modified PIM control message toward the RLFA network device instead of toward a source of a requested multicast group. When the RLFA network device receives the modified PIM control message, the RLFA network device is configured to forward a conventional PIM control message towards the source of the requested multicast group. In this way, PIM can be used to provide MoFRR over a RLFA backup path.
