  • Patent number: 8626151
Abstract: A system and methodology that facilitates dynamically determining an end-to-end response of a network prior to the selection of a technology for an application, is provided. Moreover, a user equipment (UE) can perform a proactive latency-based end-to-end technology survey to select appropriate technologies for different applications based in part on application requirements, UE and network infrastructure capabilities, network load, concurrent uses, or other factors as determined by the service provider. The results of the survey can be compared with pre-established criteria, as broadcast by the network operator, to determine a network that can be utilized to support an application at a particular location, or to determine whether fallback to another technology provides better quality and/or efficiency can be performed.

  • Patent number: 8620317
Abstract: A method and system facilitates communicating network feature support between a mobile device and cellular network. The system protects network feature support information from tampering or spoofing during a periodic routing area update (RAU). In some cases, the network is prohibited from transmitting network feature support information in response to a periodic RAU. Instead, the mobile device may use previously provided network feature support information. In other cases, the network establishes integrity protection before transmitting network feature support information in response to a periodic RAU. The mobile device rejects responses that do not comply. If the mobile device rejects the response, it may also use previously provided network feature support information instead.

  • Patent number: 8600382
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a media gateway establishing communications with a set-top box over a wireline network according to a next generation home network protocol, and over a wireless network according to a wireless network (e.g., Wi-Fi™) protocol. The media gateway measures a quality of service (e.g., latency, jitter, packet loss) and/or bandwidth for communications with the set-top box over the wireless and wireline networks. The media gateway compares the measured parameters against service provider requirements for the set-top box, and determines a network to be used by the set-top box. The media gateway can also consider the quality of service and/or bandwidth of other media devices on the networks to switch the set-top box and the devices among the available networks. The switching can be limited to avoid excessive switching between the networks. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8547347
Abstract: A method for generating multiple windows frames, an electronic device thereof, and a computer program product using the method are provided. In the present method, first, a touch trajectory generated by continuously touching a touch panel of the electronic device is detected, wherein the center of the touch panel is a display area, and a non-display area surrounds the display area. Then, whether the touch trajectory is started from one side of the non-display area and passed through the display area to be extended to another side of the non-display area is determined. If so, the display area is split according to the touch trajectory to display at least two windows frames. As a result, an intuitional and convenient method for generating multiple windows frames in the display area is provided, and the operation of the electronic device is made very convenient.

  • Patent number: 8412271
Abstract: A base station includes a reference signal generator, a boost selector, and a transmitter. The reference signal generator provides a dedicated reference signal to be transmitted over a plurality of antennas to a dedicated user device. The boost selector selects a dedicated boost level that is specific for the dedicated reference signal. The boost selector applies the dedicated boost level to the dedicated reference signal and not to a data signal to be transmitted to the dedicated user device. The boost selector generates a boosted dedicated reference signal. The transmitter transmits the boosted dedicated reference signal and the data signal to the dedicated user device after beamforming weights are applied to the boosted dedicated reference signal and to the data signal.

  • Patent number: 8359035
Abstract: A wireless base station includes a candidate-cell obtaining unit that obtains a plurality of wireless communication route candidates usable for wireless communication of a mobile station with wireless base stations; a candidate-cell extracting unit that determines whether a wireless communication route candidate via which wireless communication can be performed is included in a plurality of wireless communication route candidates managed by the wireless base station itself from among the obtained wireless communication route candidates; a self-station determining unit; and a handover preparing unit that, when wireless communication can be performed via at least any of the wireless communication route candidates managed by the wireless base station itself according to the result of determination, notifies a wireless base station with which the mobile station is in wireless communication that wireless communication can be performed with the mobile station.
