  • Patent number: 5591101
Abstract: A method and system for detecting a failure of an automatic transmission for a vehicle employing a speed shift range switch operation signal from a speed shift range switch as one of the control signals to control the automatic transmission. The method is carried out by: detecting a speed shift range from the speed shift range switch; generating a start signal indicating a starting state of a starter for expediting a start of an engine for the vehicle; and automatically controlling the automatic transmission so as to maintain the speed shift range in the case where "P" or "N" range is not detected when the start signal is "ON".

  • Patent number: 5584208
Abstract: An automatic transmission system includes a drive device, electronic control and a valve control. An accelerator pedal, a brake pedal, speedometer and a gear will send signals to the electronic control. Based on these signals, the electronic control will control the valve control. Hydraulic fluid is provided to the drive device based upon operation of the valves in the valve control. The drive device contains a plurality of clutches for each of the valves of the valve control. These clutches are sequentially engaged by sequential operation of the valves in order to connect the engine shaft with an axle of the vehicle to thereby drive the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5580334
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for controlling a car equipped with an automatic transmission having a lockup clutch. According to the control method when the lockup clutch is in the lockup state, a variation of a generated torque is detected. When the range of the torque variation detected exceeds a predetermined value, an engine torque is reduced by controlling the engine, and the automatic transmission is controlled to compensate for a reduction of the driving torque due to a reduction of the engine torque. Thus, the speed change ratio is changed to the low gear side.

  • Patent number: 5577423
Abstract: A small, inexpensive, comparatively simple differential gear having reliable revolution difference restricting effects includes a rotary casing and a retainer having a common rotation axis. Torque is transmitted to a groove of a pair of rotary members via rolling elements so the rotary members rotate with the casing. When a revolution difference occurs between the rotary members, rolling elements retained in guide slots of the retainer roll along the grooves of the rotary members so there is reciprocal movement within the range of the guide slots. When a force causing a revolution difference between the rotary members is applied from the side of only one of the rotary members, the resulting reaction force restricts the revolution difference between the pair of rotary members. This is because the rolling elements which come to the following side when the revolution difference exists trail the groove which comes to the leading side when a revolution difference occurs in response to their own movements.

  • Patent number: 5573475
Abstract: In case where an engine rotational detection signal from an ignition pulse generator is not appropriately detected even if an amount of induction air and a fuel injection amount are larger than predetermined values, an engine rotational signal failure is decided, and an automatic transmission is controlled in a state before the decision. Therefore, the automatic transmission control based on the engine rotational speed such as, for example, a speed shift control (ordinarily a shift control), a lockup control (ordinarily a lockup control, a smooth control), a line pressure control (ordinarily a line pressure control, a starting time control) can be appropriately controlled. Thus, the automatic transmission control can be executed based on the engine rotational speed.

  • Patent number: 5558594
Abstract: A load distributing planetary gear or epicyclic transmission having a sun gear, an annulus gear and a planet wheel carrier supporting a plurality of planet wheels, all of the gears being helical and the planet wheels being simultaneously meshed with the sun gear and the annulus gear. Each planet wheel is mounted on a distal end of a flexible shaft, which is supported by the planet wheel carrier on an opposite end, by a journal which permits swivelling of the planet wheel. • Patent number: 5556344
Abstract: The invention is directed to a limited slip differential, including a casing having a first clutch surface and at least two case parts, including a first case part and a second case part. An axle receiving side gear is disposed in the casing. A cone clutch associated with the side gear is disposed generally concentrically about a longitudinal axis and has a second clutch surface generally parallel with the first clutch surface. The second clutch surface is disposed at an angle of between about 3.degree. and 7.degree. relative to the longitudinal axis. • Patent number: 5553509
Abstract: A three degree-of-freedom robotic manipulator is constructed from three rotary drives. The rotary drive consists of a relatively small diameter cylindrical driving member coupled to a larger diameter cylindrical driven member. The driven member of a second rotary drive is mounted perpendicularly to the driven member of a first drive. The driven member of a third drive is mounted to the periphery of the driven member of the second drive with its axis of rotation parallel to the driven member of the second drive. The driving member of the third drive is located with its axis of rotation coincident with the axis of rotation of the driven member of the second drive. Motors powering the second and third driving members are mounted to the driven member of the first drive roughly centered over its axis of rotation. An extension arm for mounting the end effector is fixed to the driven member of the third drive. This arrangement reduces the number of required components and minimizes motor movement to reduce inertia.
