  • Patent number: 5735656
Abstract: A novel, self-sealing a headlamp adjustor mechanism is used to effect pivotal movement of a movable headlamp component in a headlamp arrangement. The headlamp adjustor mechanism includes a bushing having an initially unthreaded bore therethrough and an adjusting screw member having a shank. The shank of the adjusting screw member has a threaded portion and an unthreaded portion. When the adjusting screw member is rotated through the bore, female threads are cold-formed within the bore as the threaded portion contacts the bore and the cold-formed, female threads are deformed and collapsed against the unthreaded portion to seal the bushing against the unthreaded portion as the unthreaded portion contacts the cold-formed threads in the bore.

  • Patent number: 5733085
Abstract: A fastener assembly, such as a nail assembly, includes a row of fasteners held together and maintained in position by an extrudable thermoplastic adhesive composition containing a particulate filler, an extrudable thermoplastic resin reacted with a polar compound, and optional quantities of an additional thermoplastic resin. The adhesive composition provides the fastener assembly with increased rigidity, reduced bending and buckling, and reduced shearing requirements for separating an individual fastener from the row. The invention also includes an adhesive composition useful in the fastener assembly.

  • Patent number: 5733084
Abstract: A coupling device including a first member provided with external threads and a second member having an opening therein into which the first member is inserted. The second member is provided with a plurality of movably mounted internally threaded elements for receiving the external threads of the first member. A structure is provided whereby the first member may be inserted within the second member by rectilinear sliding movement, afterwhich the first member is rotated into tight engagement with the second member. Release of the first member is accomplished by rotating the first member very slightly in the opposite direction, afterwhich simple manual manipulation of the second member withdraws the threaded elements from engagement permitting the first member to be slidably removed from the second member.

  • Patent number: 5733083
Abstract: An adhesive insert anchor including an anchor body and a screw member for insertion into a drilled hole in a substrate containing an adhesive. The anchor body further including an integral friction segment and an adhesion segment. The friction segment includes an internally threaded cavity in which to receive the screw member and a knurled portion. The adhesion segment includes a cylindrical section and a plurality of saucer-shaped buttons positioned along its length ending with a terminal button. The buttons on the adhesion segment provide greater surface area for contact between the adhesive and the anchor. The friction segment has an external diameter substantially the same as the diameter of the hole drilled in the substrate, thereby providing a friction fit between the anchor body and the walls of the substrate hole.

  • Patent number: 5732986
Abstract: A door lock has a base securable to a door or door frame, and a locking arm pivotally connected to the base and movable when the base is secured to the door or the door frame to a blocking position where the door is prevented from opening and a retracted position where the locking arm is retracted from the door locking position. The locking arm is biased to the retracted position to facilitate closing the door when the base is secured to the door or to the door frame. A locking device is slidably mounted on the base for sliding movement to a locking position in a direction parallel to the plane of the door to engage the locking arm and hold the locking arm in the blocking position against the biasing when the door is closed, thereby locking the door. The door is unlocked by sliding movement of the locking device to an unlocking position in a direction opposite to the first mentioned direction to become disengaged from the locking arm, whereby the biasing returns the locking arm to the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 5725344
Abstract: A positioning device (20) which permits precise adjustment and retention of the longitudinal position of a screw member (30) within a threaded receptacle (22) in incremental detent steps includes the screw member (30) having at least one spring member (42) and the threaded receptacle (22) having a plurality of circumferentially spaced longitudinal grooves (28). As the screw member (30) is rotated within the threaded receptacle (22), the spring member (42) sequentially engages the spaced longitudinal grooves (28) in incremental detent steps. The engagement between the spring member (42) and a longitudinal groove (28) retains the screw member (30) in a desired detent position, thereby resisting unwanted rotation as from vibration or thermal cycling.

  • Patent number: 5725345
Abstract: A very simple and economic method for quickly repairing a puncture in a vehicle tire utilizes a screw having a concave slot beneath its head, with the circumference of the head portion cooperating with the slot to provide an edge which slightly cuts into the surface of the tire when the screw is inserted into the puncture. A sealing material such as an adhesive rubber is placed in the slot and seals the top of the puncture when the screw is threaded into the puncture hole. The design provides easy, quick, efficient and very low cost repairs for a puncture in a tire, not only for temporary repairs but for long term repairs. The design is simple and includes only two parts: a screw having a spiral thread by which the screw is affixed in the tire, and a concave slot under the screw head with the sealing material such as an adhesive or sticky rubber which is secured in the slot. The screw body is fixed in the tire hole and the head presses the sealing material into the hole.

  • Patent number: 5722838
Abstract: A fastener system includes a fastener and a driver tool in which the fastener includes a cavity for insertion of the driver tool and in which the driver tool and the fastener form an interlocking relationship between the driver tool and the fastener is formed by having a portion of the fastener overlie a portion of the driver tool. This interlocking relationship prevents accidental separation of the driver tool from the fastener and consequent marring of the surfaces of the work pieces being joined together and also prevents stripping of the driver tool and the fastener cavity.

  • Patent number: 5722808
Abstract: A fastener system capable of clamping a workpiece that provides for enhanced distribution of the internal forces that are generated in the components as a result of the assembly of the system. The fastener system includes an externally threaded member having a thread formed thereon with a substantially non-triangular profile, and an internally threaded member having a thread formed therein which also includes a substantially non-triangular profile. In assembled form, the substantially non-triangular thread faces of the internally and externally threaded members mate along a contact face and, by virtue of their unique thread forms, are able to withstand axial loads of greater magnitude than comparable systems employing threads having substantially triangular profiles.

  • Patent number: 5716178
Abstract: A gang channel nut assembly permits nut plates held therein to be used even though the assembly channel is in contact with a stringer. The instant invention enlarges the fastener hole in the channel as well as slots on both sides of the channel and cuts a connecting slot between the hole and the slot sufficient to permit passage of a fastening screw or bolt. In this way the gang channel nut assembly still functions as originally intended that is, to positively retain the nut plates and align them in the channel, but permit the nut plates to be flexible or float transverse of the channel without falling out of the channel.

  • Patent number: 5709513
Abstract: An improved mounting structure includes a soft mounting sleeve having a locking hole at a central position for fitting into a through hole of a mount, and a screw fitted with a washer. In assembly, the screw is inserted into the mounting sleeve fitted into the mount before driven into a frame structure. When the screw is driven into the top side of the mount, the bottom side of the mounting sleeve will elevate with the turning of the screw to impose a pressure on the screw threads, thus preventing the screw from being driven further and achieving a good mounting effect. This arrangement also prevents the screw from driving unduly deep into the frame structure due to excessive torsional force to prevent any possible damage to the frame structure or the screw threads.
