Abstract: The present invention relates to a broadcast signal transmitting apparatus for transmitting a broadcast signal, a broadcast signal receiving apparatus for receiving a broadcast signal, and a method for transmitting and receiving a broadcast signal. A broadcast signal transmitting method according to the present invention may comprise the steps of: encoding data pipe (DP) data corresponding to each of a plurality of DPs that transmit one or more service components; mapping the encoded DP data to data symbols to generate one or more signal frames; modulating data existing in the one or more signal frames through an OFDM scheme; and transmitting a broadcast signal having the modulated data.

The present invention relates to a user interface method and to an imaging apparatus, in which various menus required for implementing functions provided by the imaging apparatus such as a remote controller command, content, application, web and a TV channel are structured to be fit to two or more menu search modes and correspond respectively to two or more independent touch regions, so that the whole process, from a menu and search mode selection to a final menu item selection, can be carried out by a single touch movement without viewing a remote controller, and the independent touch regions and dependent touch regions are divided to allow for efficient use of the input sensor of the remote controller, having a narrow touch surface.

The turn-off method includes: when a remote control signal is received from the remote controller, quitting all operating interfaces of the television system; executing a television main program, which enters a wait status after completing loading a database and a program link process; storing a status of the main chip, and causing the memory chip to stay in a self-refresh operating mode; disconnecting power supplied to modules other than the remote control module and the memory chip, and the smart television system entering a turn off status.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a content supply device, a content supply method, a program, a terminal device and a content supply system that are configured to be capable of realizing rapid zapping between channels in DASH. The content supply device of the present disclosure supplies a plurality of items of streaming data with differing attributes, which is content with identical detail, to the same channel, and is provided with a supply portion that divides the streaming data into minimum units when the reception of streaming data is switched according to a timing that is made uniform with other channels, and supplies the streaming data to a reception side through a network, and a metafile generation portion that generates metafiles for the reception side to receive the streaming data that is supplied in the minimum units, which show that the streaming data is for zapping. The present disclosure can be applied to a system that performs streaming distribution of content.

Abstract: A method and system for sharing information between users while reproducing media in a media reproducing system, the method including: reproducing the media in the media reproducing system; capturing a part of the media in the media reproducing system; and registering a media related question including the captured part of the media in an information sharing server through a return channel of the media reproducing system. Accordingly, the users can share information in real time by generating the media related question by directly capturing the media in the media reproducing system, registering the media related question in the information sharing server, and displaying on the media reproducing system of another user that such media related question is registered. Also, since a question can be directly registered while reproducing the media, information can be conveniently shared without interrupting the media reproduction.

Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for streaming pay-per-view digital content to a content display unit a viewing audience is watching in a viewing area. An audience detection controller controls the display of content as a function of whether or not payment has been received for the number of viewers present in the viewing audience. The controller includes one or more light responsive cameras combined with a thermal camera to detect a presence of one or more members of the audience in the viewing area, and an operating system to analyze the captured images to detect the number of persons of the audience. The controller further includes a reverse camera to capture a watermark inserted in the streaming content to confirm the controller is in the same room as the display unit, IR lighting, and ambient light sensors to detect ambient light conditions.

Abstract: A method for video program recognition includes recording video sequences of each of a plurality of channels and obtaining a set of features of an image captured by a user device. The method also includes performing a camera registration operation on the video sequences to select video frames representing the recorded video sequences based on key video frames from a registered cameras associated with the recorded video sequences. Further, the method includes extracting features of at least some of the selected plurality of video frames of each channel, storing the extracted features, and comparing the obtained set of features with the stored features of each channel to determine whether there is a match between the obtained set of features of the image and features of a video frame from a specific channel and, when there is a match, determining the specific channel as a recognized channel number.

There are typically many features, which increase complexity when a user attempts to find an asset, a service, a utility, a shortcut, or other information and/or content of the second display application. The use of a global search tool enhances the usage of the second display application, especially when a utility is buried in the second display application, making that utility more difficult to access.

Abstract: Approaches, techniques, and mechanisms are disclosed for the server-based stitching of a sequence of video segments. According to one embodiment, rather than combining the segments together into a single video file, a server (e.g. a segment-based HTTP server) is configured to dynamically switch between streaming the different segments in the sequence. That is, for instance, as the server reaches the end of one segment, instead of terminating the streaming, the server retrieves the video data for the next segment and continues streaming content from the next segment. Thus, the server streams a sequence of multiple and distinct video segments from a single addressable location (e.g. a URL), rather than streaming the distinct video segments from separate addressable locations. To a client, the stream appears to be a single video stream, even though composed of audio/video data from separate and distinct files or sources.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for efficiently and flexibly providing caption data (e.g., closed captioning) to subscribers of a content-based network, such as for example Internet protocol television (IPTV) subscribers. In one exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes a server performing real-time extraction and encapsulation of caption data, transport of caption data to client devices over the network, and use of one or more applications running on the client devices to decode and display the caption data consistent with the multimedia (audio/video) content with which it is associated. In one variant, instant messaging (IM) infrastructure is used to authenticate clients and receive and display the caption data via a separate transport process. Server and client-side apparatus adapted for caption data receipt, decoding and display are also disclosed.

Abstract: A content presenting method of the present disclosure includes: a history collecting step of collecting a viewing history of a user; a determining step of analyzing the viewing history to determine an active time segment in which an output section is in a state of being viewed; a data collecting step of collecting meta data assigned to a viewed content; an analyzing step of analyzing the meta data to extract a word representing the content; a profile generating step of generating, for each active time segment, a user profile based on the extracted word; a calculation step of calculating an estimated viewing time; and a playlist generating step of selecting contents based on the user profile generated correspondingly to the active time segment to be compatible with the estimated viewing time, to generate a playlist which defines an order in which the selected contents are played.
