  • Patent number: 4903751
Abstract: A method for the production of a unitary or laminated film or sheet of finely controlled thickness from a molten material utilizes spaced, first and second parallel rolls rotating in opposite directions to form a kissing zone between the rolls. The method moves the surface of a cooling rotating roll past a region of contact with a molten material to form a rapidly solidifying layer of material thereon, which then is passed into the kissing zone, wherein the solidified layer is either pressed to form a unitary film or is fused by contacting another solidified layer.

  • Patent number: 4901906
Abstract: A composite metal article is made by placing a low melting temperature metal to serve as a core within a shell of a high melting temperature metal and by containing and sealing the core within the shell. The assembly constitutes a containerized ingot which is then transported to a forming die where the containerized ingot is heated to soften the core and is then formed to the shape imposed by the die. During the cooling period, the shell is reformed to the core to maintain tight contact and to promote bonding.

  • Patent number: 4901466
Abstract: A treatment for a fishing lure is formed by the combination of a water insoluble carrier such as silicone grease and a water soluble chemical composition. The water soluble chemical composition is one which upon solution with water generates heat. Particularly suitable chemical compositions include sodium hydroxide and magnesium chloride. The treatment is applied to a fishing lure such as a fly. The fly is cast into water and the physical action of the water causes the chemical composition to be exposed to water thereby dissolving the chemical composition. As the chemical composition dissolves it generates heat at the surface of the lure. This heat is detected by fish which strike at the lure. This treatment is effective for a wide variety of lures and for catching a wide variety of different fish species.

  • Patent number: 4901774
Abstract: Apparatus for forming closed loops or eyes at opposite ends of a length of wire especially useful in the manufacture of fishing lures wherein a plurality of attractive objects (beads, etc.) are strung on the wire between the closed loops or eyes. The apparatus provides mechanism for forming one straight end portion of the wire into a generally V shape to provide an open loop at the apex of the V, following which a twisting mechanism engages and twists the loop to wrap one leg of the V several times about the other leg so as to close the loop and thereby to produce an eye. The wire is turned end for end and the operation of the mechanism is repeated to form an eye at the other end of the wire.

  • Patent number: 4901395
Abstract: According to the present invention an elastomeric grommet includes an axial extending central tubular portion of diameter less than the diameter of the compartment wall opening. A flange portion is integral with the central tubular portion and has a diameter greater than the diameter of the compartment wall opening to limit the extent of insertion of the tubular portion into the compartment wall opening. A retention means, such as a flexible annular lip, is integral with the central tubular portion in axial spaced relation from the flange portion and has a free state dimension which is greater than the diameter of the central tubular portion. The integral retention device is yieldable to permit its insertion and the insertion of the tubular central portion through the compartment wall opening and then returns to its free state condition to retain the grommet in loose fitting relation with the compartment wall.

  • Patent number: 4901785
Abstract: In continuously casting molten metal into cast product by a twin-belt machine, it is desirable to achieve dramatic increases in speed (linear feet per minute) at which cast product exits the machine, particularly in installations where steel cast product is intended to feed a downstream regular rolling mill (as distinct from a planetary mill) operating in tandem with the twin-belt caster. Such high-speed casting produces product with a relatively thin shell and molten interior, and the shell tends to bulge outwardly due to metallostatic head pressure of the molten center. A number of cooperative features enable high-speed, twin-belt casting: (1) Each casting belt is slidably supported adjacent to the caster exit pulley for bulge control and enhanced cooling of cast product. (2) Lateral skew steering of each belt provides an effective increase in moving mold length plus a continuity of heat transfer not obtained with prior art belt steering apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4899485
Abstract: A containment-type trap for flying insects provides a rigid, opaque top element of elongate shape that is carried within an orifice defined in the top of a flat, flexible, partially transparent container bag to support that bag. The top member provides entryways for flying insects and both top and bag provide charactristics to attract flying insects. The bag carries containerized attractant material so that oil, water or both may be added to the assembled device to create a viable trap. Water aids in drowning insects and oil aids in asphyxiating them. The trap is collapsible to a small volume for storage and transport and is inexpensive of manufacture so as to be disposable after a single use.

  • Patent number: 4898319
Abstract: A brazing oven includes an arrangement employing a gas curtain or barrier to cover the port or opening of the oven whenever the door is opened. The curtain or barrier is formed by a region of flowing conditioned air directed across the opening. The flowing air curtain or barrier prevents gas from exiting the oven interior when the door is opened, and it also serves to replace or replenish any conditioned air which happens to escape from the oven interior. The air curtain or barrier is generated by a ported manifold and supply located either on the oven housing exterior adjacent the opening or inside the oven housing adjacent the opening.
