  • Patent number: 4860928
Abstract: A powder constant-volume feeder includes a canister having on the inner surface thereof a fin for transferring powder upwards and is inclined to form a return portion for the powder which has been transferred by the fin. A bucket wheel has a plurality of buckets for continuously transferring the powder from the interior of the return portion to a powder hopper. The powder hopper receives the powder from the interior of the buckets of the bucket wheel. A constant volume of powder can thus be fed continously at a constant bulk density.

  • Patent number: 4823995
Abstract: A one piece, resilient, integrally molded container cap consisting of a rotor member, fixed member and a frangible connecting tab. The rotor member has a closed portion and an opening portion, and the fixed member has a closed portion and a sifting and pouring opening. As manufactured, the rotor member is attached to the fixed member by a frangible connecting tab. When desired to attach the container cap to a container, the rotor member is pivoted along the frangible connecting tab to be axially displaced from the fixed member. The rotor member is then pushed down on the fixed member, the members engaging each other by complementary locking surfaces. This action insures that the closed portions of the rotor and fixed members are aligned to prevent the contents of the container from undesired escape and also effects a tight, secure fit of the rotor member to the fixed member.

  • Patent number: 4823993
Abstract: A cylindrical housing having diametrically opposed inlet and discharge openings contains a bucket wheel coaxially rotatable therein. The inlet opening is provided with an insert having an inclined upper surface and an edge for prestripping the grain material. The insert is further provided with a stripping edge forming an angle with the cylindrical generatrix formed by the surface edge of the blades of the rotating bucket wheel which angle is at least equal to the angle of friction between the bulk material and the material out of which the gate is formed. In addition, a canopy displacing wall is arranged in the inlet opening at the level of the end of the stripping edge to displace the material moving through the feed inlet. The wall has a width of such a dimension that the cavity formed beneath it is equal to at least the volume of the granulate material stripped from the stripping edge.

  • Patent number: 4817831
Abstract: An expandable sealing plug and supporting structure adaptable for both pull-to-open, push-to-close and twist-to-open, twist-to-close captive dispensing caps is provided. The expandable plug is manufactured with thinner walls than that of the supporting structure and a compatible outer cap, and is designed to balloon outwardly when the assembled cap and container experience an increase in internal pressure. This ballooning affect tightens the connection between the plug and the dispensing orifice in the outer cap, thereby increasing the sealing of the dispensing cap. Material resilience returns the plug to the original plug shape on release of internal pressure and maintains original plug shape when no unusual pressure is applied.

  • Patent number: 4811867
Abstract: An apparatus in which particles are dispensed from an open ended chamber of a container into a transport adapted to move the particles therefrom. The apparatus prevents the bridging and caking of particles in the chamber. A member, positioned in the chamber of the container in the region of the open end thereof, is in engagement with the transport. The member is resiliently coupled to the container and agitated as the transport moves the particles. This causes the springs resiliently coupling the member to the container to vibrate. As the springs vibrate, bridging and caking of the particles is prevented and the particles are dispensed from the open end of the chamber in the container.

  • Patent number: 4807787
Abstract: An easy-open/reclosure device intended to be attached to the top lid of a container having an upstanding peripheral rim. The device includes a base portion and a moveable portion preferably hingedly attached thereto. The base portion has a dispensing aperture, a depending flange encircling the aperture, and a deformable pouring lip/drain surface. The moveable portion has a depending plug member which is shaped complementary to the base portion's aperture for reclosing the container. When the device is applied to the container, the base portion's depending flange is pushed through a prescored or pre-cut aperture in the container's top lid. In applying the device to the container, the container's peripheral rim bends the base portion's deformable pouring lip/drain surface upward and inward such that it assumes an inclined, trough-shaped configuration.

  • Patent number: 4805741
Abstract: A torque-responsive brake, in particular for elevators, comprises two or more brakes arcs, brake shoes pivotally connected to the brake arcs and having attached brake linings and a brake actuating mechanism for pressing the brake linings against a drum. With prior art brakes, the starting of the elevator was not smooth enough or, alternatively, the types of apparatus by which smooth starting has been achieved were too complicated and expensive. By the present invention these drawbacks have been overcome in that, for pivotally attaching each brake shoe to its brake arc, a pivot shaft extends through the respective brake shoe and is connected to one end of a torque-responsive member, the opposite end of which is fixed to the respective brake arc.

  • Patent number: 4804110
Abstract: A dispenser is described for extruding a hot melt adhesive obtained by melting a rod of adhesive in a normally closed pressurized melting chamber. The rod is supplied from a remotely located spool through a flexible conduit to an inlet of the dispenser. A seal is placed at the inlet and is cooled by a flow of air so as to maintain the shape of the rod at the seal, prevent its deformation, and inhibit the leakage of melted adhesive back through the seal. A friction drive is used in the vicinity of the spool to push the rod into the melting chamber. A movable section is provided for the melting chamber to absorb expansion of the melted adhesive and a sensor is used to inhibit feeding of the rod when the chamber section expands and enable feeding when it is in a contracted position. A foamable adhesive rod is described wherein an unblown foaming agent is incorporated in the rod and activated in the melting chamber of the dispenser. Several embodiments are described.

  • Patent number: 4802611
Abstract: A movable refractory plate assembly for use with a sliding closure unit for controlling the discharge of molten metal from a metallurgical vessel includes a movable refractory plate having therethrough a discharge opening and a movable frame for supporting the movable refractory plate in planar abutting contact with the stationary refractory plate of the sliding closure unit and movable between open and closed positions. A refractory control member is mounted for sliding movement relative to the movable refractory plate between selected positions restricting the cross section of the movable refractory plate discharge opening. An actuator slides the control member relative to the movable refractory plate between the selected positions. The control member and actuator are accessible from the exterior of the sliding closure unit. Thus, when the sliding closure unit is in the open position, only the control member need be actuated to achieve throttling of the size of the discharge opening.
