Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for generation and playback of supplemented videos which include interactive features. The supplemented video includes hotspots that allow a video viewer to interact with the video when the video viewer sees an object. The hotspots can be manually defined. Information regarding the object and the hotspot can be stored in a separate XML file. Furthermore, the present invention can be a marketplace where a desired object can be found by searching the XML file. The search results can list the supplemented videos which contain hotspots corresponding to the object and also the time in the supplemented video in which the object is found. The present invention can also aggregate data about the objects based on the playback of the supplemented videos and the video viewer's interaction with the supplemented videos.

  • Patent number: 11503346
Abstract: A video distribution server according to one embodiment of the present invention promotes viewing of live video by a new viewer. The server provides a user with a live video distribution service for distributing and viewing live video via a user terminal communicably connected via a communication network. The server distributes live video provided by a specific distributor such that a viewer having a small value of a predetermined parameter corresponding to the specific distributor is prioritized, and thus a new viewer is prioritized over a regular viewer of the live video provided by the specific distributor. As a result, viewing of the live video by the new viewer is promoted.

  • Patent number: 11438663
Abstract: Techniques are described for transparent switching between live-edge and non-live-edge playback responsive to user navigation. For example, live content is available to a user both via a live stream from a remote live edge server, and via a recorded-live stream from a remote recording server. During playback of a live content stream, a player system uses a warm-up player to continually receive, pre-decode, and pre-buffer the live stream at the live edge to maintain a pre-buffered warm-up stream; and the player system uses a primary player to decode and generate a playback stream for playback. As the user navigates playback between live-edge and non-live-edge locations, the player system can seamlessly switch between generating the playback stream based on the recorded-live stream for non-live-edge playback, or based on the pre-buffered warm-up stream for live-edge playback.

  • Patent number: 11424949
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a CATV & MoCA® device, such as a passive, point of entry (POE) splitter or a RF amplifier. In the passive, POE splitter, a resistive splitter network connects plural “MoCA® only” ports, e.g., four, five or eight, to two or more “MoCA® and CATV” ports. The MoCA® only ports and MoCA® and CATV ports are connected to a MoCA® rejection filter, which is in turn connected to an input connected to a service provider. In the passive, POE splitter or the RF amplifier, an intuitive female coaxial port layout and marking scheme assists technicians with correctly connecting the POE splitter or RF amplifier to the correct coaxial cables at a customer's premises. The port layout also simplifies the circuitry design parameters on a printed circuit board (PCB) by orienting the “CATV & MoCA®” output ports at similar distances from a CATV input port of the POE splitter or RF amplifier.

  • Patent number: 11418824
Abstract: Techniques for targeting media content items for weakly connected devices are described. In some embodiments, a model building method in preparation for approximated personalization is performed at a server. The server uses data from fully connected devices to build a full model, which classifies profiles into clusters and tags targeted content with content rankings. The server also builds device models that approximate the full model. The server then sends the device models to user devices for targeted content selection. In some embodiments, a content selection method for approximated personalization is performed at a user device. The user device receives parameters of a device model trained by a server. The user device then executes the device model using local user data to assign a profile to a cluster and selects targeted content for the profile based on the cluster assignment and the rankings of the targeted content.
