    Abstract: A fuel injection system is proposed which serves to supply fuel to a mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engine. The fuel injection system includes an air flow rate member, which actuates a metering and distribution valve. A reservoir is disposed in a pressure control line which branches off from a fuel supply line, by means of which reservoir a flushing valve can be affected in such a manner that below a certain fuel pressure in the pressure control line the flushing valve is opened, as a result of which the fuel supplied to the individual injection valves can flow back through outflow lines to the fuel tank and thus closes the flushing valve above the certain fuel pressure. Above the certain fuel pressure, the electrical circuit of the starter motor is simultaneously closed. Thus, upon starting the engine, all the lines and units of the fuel injection system are filled with fuel, so that a secure start is assured.

    Abstract: A universal joint is formed with trunnions extending into the bores of yokes with bearing bushes being interposed between the trunnions and the yokes. Each of the trunnions is formed with a bore extending internally into the trunnion generally coaxially with the central axis of the trunnion. The trunnion is formed with a wall thickness surrounding the bore and the bearing bush has a wall thickness surrounding the trunnion with the wall thickness of the trunnion being between one and three times the size of the wall thickness of the bearing bush. The trunnion bore may extend with a depth which is at least equivalent to the depth of a generally cylindrical bore within the bearing bush within which the trunnion is received and the central bore in the trunnion may be formed with a conical portion immediately contiguous with a cylindrical portion located inwardly from the conical portion. The conical portion may be formed to widen outwardly with an angle of between 0.5.degree. and 5.degree.

    Abstract: A rotary piston-internal combustion engine has a stationary engine housing with a central axis. A rotor is positioned within the housing and includes a cylinder with first pistons integral with and spaced uniformly apart around the inner surface of the cylinder. The first pistons are sector-shaped. The rotor rotates at a constant velocity. A hub is located within the cylinder coaxial with the central axis and can rotate relative to the cylinder and first pistons. Second pistons are fixed to the hub and each extends radially outwardly from the hub between a pair of adjacent first pistons. Openings extend through the cylinder and are arranged symmetrically relative to axially extending central plane of the first pistons. Seals are provided around the openings between the outside surface of the cylinder and the interior of the housing.

The glow plug (87) includes a metal sheath (88) designed normally to contact air when energized at a rated level. The burner housing (32) includes a cavity (86) shaped to receive the glow plug (87) with a minimal clearance (a) large enough to prevent interference during assembly but small enough to allow metal-to-metal heat transfer into the housing (32) when the glow plug (87) is energized at twice its rated level.

    Abstract: A fast idle device for a carburetor is disclosed such that an optimum throttle valve opening (idle opening) is calculated through a calculating circuit based on various engine operating conditions, after the engine is started, and is controlled repeatedly, until the engine is fully warmed up, in such a way that the throttle valve movement urged by a return spring in the direction to close the valve is released steppedly by a ratchet mechanism. The fast idle device of the present invention comprises various sensors, a calculating circuit, and an electromagnetic ratchet mechanism, in addition to a conventional throttle valve.

    Abstract: A dwell angle control has three counting devices for detecting acceleration. In a first UP/DOWN counter (17), the count in one direction takes place throughout the time the current in the primary circuit of an ignition coil (25) exceeds a current threshold value (I1). The count in the other direction is constant with respect to time. The counts on the first counter are taken over into a second UP/DOWN counter (11) in response to the input signal, the counting direction also being determined by the input signals. When the count in the second counter (11) reaches an adjustable trigger threshold value, the closure time is initiated, the actual ignition time being fixed by an edge of a sensed signal, or the edge of the signal from an ignition computer. The adjustable trigger threshold value is advantageously determined by a third UP/DOWN counter (12) which is set to a fixed value (X) by an edge of the sensed signal and whose counting direction is also determined by the sensed signals.

    Abstract: In a distributor assembly having an ignition coil therein, for use with an internal combustion engine, the positional relationship between the ignition coil and a magnetic sensitive detector, which detects a proper ignition timing, is selected so that the leakage flux from the ignition coil does not cause the magnetic sensitive detector to malfunction. According to one arrangement the magnetic sensitive direction of the detector is arranged perpendicular to the leakage flux from the ignition coil. According to the other arrangement the magnetic sensitive direction of the detector is arranged to intersect a radial line from the axis of the main magnetic flux of the ignition coil at an angle other than 90 degrees so that the flux variation in the detector is expedited by the appearance and disappearance of the leakage flux.
