  • Patent number: 5339526
Abstract: A resistance spool (16) for holding lines (38,40) in a line trimmer head (10) is disclosed. The spool (16) has a rotatable main body (19) having lines (38,40) wound thereon. The wound lines (38,40) have free ends (42,44) which extend radially from the main body (19). Clamp portions (32,34,36), on the main body (19), restrain the free ends (42,44) of the lines (38,40). The clamp portions (32,34,36) restrain the free ends (42,44) so that the lines (38,40) do not unwind from the spool (16) when the main body (19) is not rotating at a sufficient speed and allows the free ends (42,44) of lines (38,40) to pay out from the spool (16) when the main body (19) is rotating at a sufficient speed. Preferably, the main body (19) includes a hub (20) and axially disposed flanges (22,24,26) extending radially outwardly from the hub (20). The flanges ( 22,24,26) cooperate with one another to pinch the line (38,40) such that the line (38,40) may not unravel during installation of the spool (16) within a line trimmer head (10).

  • Patent number: 5337478
Abstract: A new and improved automatic shaving apparatus includes a handle assembly which includes a pressurized foam dispensing assembly and an electric valve control assembly. A shaving head assembly is connected to the handle assembly and retains a razor blade assembly. The handle assembly serves as a handle during shaving and also serves as a housing for the pressurized foam dispensing assembly and the electric valve control assembly. The pressurized foam dispensing assembly stores and dispenses shaving foam from the shaving head assembly. The electric valve control assembly controls release of shaving foam from the pressurized foam dispensing assembly. An electric power source powers the electric valve control assembly. A switch assembly is placed in circuit between the electric power source and the electric valve control assembly for controlling electric power to the electric valve control assembly.

  • Patent number: 5335418
Abstract: A hand tool includes first and second lever members which intersect and have aligned openings therethrough in which is received a flexural pivot assembly, including a pair of cylindrical members respectively disposed in the lever member openings and respectively fixed to the lever members for movement therewith. In one embodiment the cylindrical members of the pivot assembly are press fitted directly in the openings of the lever members. In another embodiment, bushings are press-fitted in the openings between the lever members and the cylindrical members. A spacer is disposed between the cylindrical members to prevent their axial movement toward each other, and the spacer may extend between the lever members and has a very low coefficient friction so as not to impede pivotal movement of the levers.

  • Patent number: 5331742
Abstract: The invention relates to end cutters, in particular for cutting through cables, having two flat loose blades which are located one on top of the other, and rotatable about a common rotation shaft and can be driven by means of a drive device. Each loose blade is in this case acted on by a suitable cam disc which is located in the plane of the blade and is coupled to the drive device. A desired force response while cutting up material in the form of ropes can be achieved in a simple manner by selection of the radii of the cam discs.

  • Patent number: 5319857
Abstract: A simple miter guide uses planar sheet material to define an overlay panel, a saw guiderail and depending lumber guides and spacers which orient the lumber at a predetermined angle relative to the saw blade and space the guide over an underlying surface. The guide is designed specifically for construction lumber such as two-by-fours and two-by-sixes, and is used by placing the guide on a flat surface, and feeding the lumber into the guide from the back until it is properly aligned for the saw cut. The guide and lumber can be aligned to establish an orthogonal square-cut, or an angle-cut such as 45 degrees. A saw guiderail guides the end of the saw foot as it moves across the saw support raceway, spacing the sawblade adequately from the guide to prevent damage, and permitting an angled undercut to be made. Means to mount the guide to an underlying surface are provided, although unmounted operation is useful too.

  • Patent number: 5319854
Abstract: In a pair of scissors, particularly hairdresser's scissors, with a pivot joint consisting of a pivot screw (1) and a screw nut (18), where the pivot screw (1) is connected to one scissor blade (21) in an essentially non-rotating fashion, play between the pivot screw (1) and the one scissor blade (21) is to be prevented by providing the screw nut (18) with an annular groove (10) in its inner wall, in which an annular body (11) made of flexible material is located, the inside diameter of which is smaller that the thread diameter of the pivot screw (1), and by the screw nut (18) additionally having a flexible moulding (22) on its inner face, which contacts the screw nut (18) and the wall of the drilled hole (20) in the one scissor blade (21) when under pressure.

  • Patent number: 5319852
Abstract: A holder for a safety razor is presented which also contains a sponge reservoir. The sponge reservoir is at one end of the holder and contains lubricating fluids within the sponge and reservoir. At the other end of the safety razor holder is a handle end which is slotted. A safety razor is placed in the holder by placing the razor blade head end in the sponge reservoir and the razor handle into the holder handle slot. When the blade of the safety razor is pressed into the lubricating sponge, the fluid keeps the blade relatively free of the corrosive effects of oxidation of the air, debris from shaving or other dulling factors. The blade may be lubricated by pressing it against the lubricated sponge as needed. The effect of using the safety razor holder is to keep blades sharper, to provide smoother and more comfortable shaves, and to allow the user to apply an appropriate amount of lubricating or softening oils to the razor blade.

  • Patent number: 5309641
Abstract: A scalpel including an elongated handle having an engaging surface located on the handle, a blade carried by the handle adjacent one end thereof and a guard movably mounted to the handle for sliding movement relative to the handle between a protective position covering the blade and a retracted position exposing the blade for use. The guard includes side members extending downwardly from an upper surface. The side members are positioned adjacent opposite sides of the handle and the resiliency of the guard forces the inner surfaces of the side members into engagement with the engaging surface of the handle. The guard is movably along the engaging surface in response to sliding movement of the guard relative to the handle. In a further form, the guard is slidable into a permanently locked position relative to the handle, thereby preventing reuse of the scalpel and inadvertent exposure of the blade.
