  • Patent number: 4984728
Abstract: In a dual belt conveyor for multi-ply continuous paper tubing having upper and lower endless conveyor belts between which the tubing is fed, turning point pulleys and backing rollers for the respective conveyor belts are longitudinally offset so that the tubing is moved through the conveyor along an undulating path. The inlet turning point pulley for the upper conveyor belt is positioned in front of the equivalent pulley for the lower conveyor belt so that the upper belt will contact the incoming tubing before the lower belt. A brake plate is provided under the inlet pulley of the upper belt over which plate the tubing is fed. The arrangement avoids the formation of undesirable waves and wrinkles in the tubing.

  • Patent number: 4978084
Abstract: A spool for photographic film has a generally cylindrical core with flanges at the end portions of the core. A slot through the core receives an end portion of the film that is to be wound onto the spool. Hooks in the slot are engaged with the film through apertures in the film for attaching of the film to the spool. In order to avoid locking of two spools together during bulk handling, as can occur when a flange of one spool enters the slot of another spool, the outer edge of one wall defining the slot is chamfered and generally V-shaped. The edge of the wall forms a large obtuse angle and is substantially aligned with the tip ends of the hooks so that the chamfered wall and the tip ends prevent a spool flange from becoming locked in the slot of another spool.

  • Patent number: 4973010
Abstract: A machine for quickly and efficiently rolling carpet runners or mats after laundering, for storage, transport and reuse. The machine includes a set of belts (23) for upwardly inclined travel and an interesting set of belts (26) for generally vertical traveling. An assembly of arcuate fingers (28) cooperates with the belts to guide the leading edge of a carpet runner (27) into the beginning of a roll so as to assist in formation of a tight compact roll of carpet. An electric motor (20) is provided for driving the belts (23,26). Upon completion of the carpet roll, air cylinder (34) and crank arm (36) are provided for retracting the finger assembly to permit the carpet roll to roll down the inclined belts (23) for removal from the machine. Stop arms (37) are provided to retain the rolled carpet. Control switches actuated by foot pedal (44) and buttons (54 and 55 ) are provided for the belt drives, finger assembly, raising and lowering and extension and retraction of the stop arms (37).

  • Patent number: 4964556
Abstract: An improved lid for a forms feed tractor, which feeds successive interconnected sheets of paper having edge perforations (feedholes), the sheets having forms printed thereon or being blank, in printers, copiers and the like is provided with an improved lid mechanism having an extension outboard of the tractor and over the form. A transparent or translucent window section in this extension is provided with markings which are seen when the lid is pivoted down and closed so as to capture the form. Then the form can be moved so that the edge of each sheet or certain markings on the form are in proper alignment in the printer or copier. Then when printing occurs or when copying onto the form occurs, the printing will be located in line with other material on the form or properly spaced from the top edge of each sheet.

  • Patent number: 4955520
Abstract: An improved lid mechanism for a web feed devices such as tractors for feeding perforated paper webs in printers, copiers and the like, wherein pins on which the lid is pivotally mounted for movement between open and closed position are unloaded (do not have any force or bias applied thereto) when the lid is in its open and closed position. The lid, when closed, covers the paper and is then spaced by a gap from the surface of a frame along which the paper is fed by a pin drive such as a belt having pins which extend into perforations of the paper. A depending leg of the lid has a block with surfaces disposed at an angled to each other. These surfaces extend from a corner of the block. One of these surfaces is preferably perpendicular to the surface of the lid which defines the gap. The other of these surfaces defines the position of the lid in its open position.

  • Patent number: 4941606
Abstract: In a conventional vacuum box a loop of a web material is received in an elongate chamber of the box, and a vacuum at the lower portion of the chamber draws air through the chamber to hold the loop of web material under tension as it moves through the chamber. When the web has one or more notches along a side edge thereof, the web may vibrate excessively and experience a drop in web tension as the notch passes through the bottom of the loop in the box. In order to avoid this problem an endless ring of flexible material is positioned in the vacuum box and within the loop of web material. The ring has a plurality of spaced openings around the circumference of the ring, and they are offset from the side edges of the ring so that the portion of the ring adjacent the openings will cover the notches in the web as the web passes through the bottom of the loop in the vacuum box, thus avoiding the excessive vibration in the web and loss in web tension mentioned above.

  • Patent number: 4938404
Abstract: A turning guide for a running web and which guide has a curved guide surface with air slots therein and pressurized air supplied from a blower is delivered through a plenum to the guide to form a cushion of pressurized air which floatingly supports the web. An adjustable damper operated by a servomotor regulates air flow and controls the clearance spacing between the curved guide surface and the web. Control apparatus for the servomotor comprises an electronic control unit, including a memory and a central processing unit (CPU), to which are connected an ultrasonic signal generator, an ultrasonic signal receiver, temperature sensing devices located with the ultrasonic signal sensors, a sensor responsive to blower operation, and a sensor responsive to web presence. In operation, after a desired web clearance set-point is entered into the memory and blower operation and web presence are established, an ultrasonic signal from the signal generator is reflected off of the web to the signal receiver.
