Patent number: 4047602Abstract: A gear coupling and oil actuated synchronizing clutch is disclosed. The oil is connected to the clutch by a static seal ring freely supported on the drive shaft, next to a shaft flange. The seal ring has a piston groove containing a piston ring adjacent the flange overlying a narrower groove in the flange. Engage oil in the static seal groove forces the piston ring against the flange and holes in the piston ring conduct oil to the flange groove and then to the disc pack and clutch actuating mechanism. The disc pack has a larger inlet than outlet so that the engage oil fills the pack introducting a viscous drag to the discs and initiating action of balking mechanism. Drive pins are advanced into kidney shaped holes where they form an interium connection after synchronism and before gear engagement so that the drive gears can freely register with the driven gear.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1975Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Assignee: Dynetics, Inc.Inventor: John H. Patent number: 4045980Abstract: A telescopic drive line includes an inner square drive shaft and an outer drive tube having a square bore at one end. A thin-walled liner in the bore has an inner surface providing a low-friction axial bearing for the drive shaft. The considerably greater coefficient of friction between the outer body of the liner and the bore of the drive tube secures the liner axially in the bore irrespective of the radial force applied to the liner. Only supplementary securement is provided by a key fitted in a keyway. The several liners fit between inward projections of the key. An outward projection fitting a recess in the drive tube secures the key axially. Deflection of the exposed end of the key allows the projecting tab to be disengaged from the recess for insertion and withdrawal of the key along with the several sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1976Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: Rexnord Inc.Inventors: Thomas D. Patent number: 4044571Abstract: The present invention relates to Flexing-Disk Couplings that permit moderate angular and axial displacements between two rotating parts connected thereby. They contain a plurality of adjacent disks operating in parallel. Each disk transmits only a portion of the total torque. To keep the several disks acting in a similar manner, their outer ends at least are connected with one of said parts through yielding rubber-like layers, permitting said disks to slightly move out or in relatively to each other. This avoids high stresses when said parts tilt with respect to each other. The use of several disks in parallel permits to increase the load capacity or reduce the coupling diameter and weight.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1976Date of Patent: August 30, 1977Inventor: Ernest Wildhaber

Patent number: 4043222Abstract: A pneumatic power tool having a torque sensing control system is disclosed which is capable of consistently applying a precise torque to a fastener so that uniform tightening of any number of fasteners can be obtained. A torsional strain responsive transducer is mounted internally in the tool body and includes a strain gauge network mounted on a torsionally resilient portion of one of the gear cases of the drive train of the tool, the gear case being subject to a reaction component of the torque being transmitted through the drive train. The strain gauge network provides a control signal which effects energization of a solenoid-actuated air shut-off valve in the handle of the tool to automatically terminate the operation of the tool when a predetermined torque is obtained at the output spindle. The control system permits adjustment of the torque output of the tool and provides a visual readout of such output.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1975Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Assignee: Thor Power Tool CompanyInventor: Edmund C. Patent number: 4043206Abstract: In arrangement of a channel selecting device used for a UHF tuner of the continuously variable type, a taper clutch is employed for transmitting the rotation of the detented selector shaft to the output drive gear which is secured to the fine tuning shaft positioned inside the selector shaft. The taper clutch is formed by engagement of the annular inner surface of a hollow portion in the end of the selector shaft and the annular outer surface of a hub member of the fine tuning shaft, each of surfaces has a taper angle (2.theta.) in the range of about 20.degree. to 9.degree. to frictionally couple the selector shaft and the drive gear, and is coated with a layer of lubricant materials to permit the rotation of the fine tuning shaft independent of the selector shaft. This taper clutch provides stable and smooth operation in the extended temperature range and without any undesired creep between the selector shaft and the fine tuning shaft.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1975Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Assignee: New Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.Inventors: Michiaki Narihiro, Akira Nishimura

Patent number: 4043146Abstract: The present shaft coupling is intended for releasably linking two or more vices to each other in a torque transmitting manner. The devices may, for example, be turbines each of which has a shaft. Two bearing mounts are provided for one of the shafts, but only one bearing mount is provided for the other shaft at its end remote from the coupling. The coupling between the two shafts is formed by inserting a non-circular end portion of one shaft in a corresponding non-circular aperture in the end of the other shaft. An axially extending bolt firmly clamps the two shafts together in the axial direction. One or both of the shafts may be hollow. The non-circular profiles of the shafts may be splined, or have a polygonal profile, and the polygonal profile may be tapered. A polygonal profile as used herein may be one with only three sides.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1975Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Assignee: Motoren- und Turbinen-Union Muenchen GmbH M.A.N.
