  • Patent number: 3972240
Abstract: A detent type tuning mechanism for a UHF tuner having a continuously variable tuning shaft includes a detented selector shaft, a gear train interconnecting the tuning shaft and the selector shaft, and a memory type fine tuning mechanism including a rotatable turret having mounted thereon a plurality of cams each engageable by a fine tuning shaft when the selector shaft is positioned in predetermined ones of the detent positions. A Geneva mechanism is employed to rotate the turret a predetermined increment to bring a different one of the cams into engagement with the fine tuning shaft when the selector shaft is rotated a predetermined number of detent positions. Each cam thereby serves as a memory fine tuning member for a predetermined group of adjacent UHF channels corresponding to a like number of detent positions of the selector shaft. An indicator dial provides a numerical display of the precise UHF channel selected at each position of the detented selector shaft.

  • Patent number: 3962889
Abstract: A lubricated joint assembly comprises joint means received in a boot having cuffs which allow coupling members to connect between the joint means and external mechanisms. The boot cooperates with the coupling members to fully enclose the joint means. The boot is pressurized with a lubricant charged thereto whereby the boot is expanded and compresses the lubricant therein. In the preferred embodiments, the lubricant is charged to the boot in a fashion which displaces all air from the boot, thus preventing oxidation of the lubricant. Further, in the present invention, the external shape of the expanded boot is controlled by controlling the shape of the boot before pressurization thereof and by also controlling the wall thickness of the boot in selected areas thereof.

  • Patent number: 3961692
Abstract: In a magnetic clutch a rotatable axially transferrable input disc which is part of a magnetic flux path including a magnetic cup in the output structure, engages annular friction surfaces on the output structure when magnetic flux is generated in the flux path by a coil. The friction surfaces are part of a rotatable coil and a magnetic cup attached to the driven shaft about which the input disc rotates freely in the absence of flux. The frictional torque generated by the engagement of the disc and the friction surfaces is proportional to the voltage applied to the flux-producing coil. When the input disc is locked, application of flux results in a braking action on the driven shaft.

  • Patent number: 3959990
Abstract: An assembly for connecting the output shaft of an electric motor or the like to the input of a gearbox or the like comprises a rigid housing having one side flanged to the motor and another side flanged to the gearbox. A rigid connecting sleeve is journaled in the housing and rotatable about an axis extending between the motor and the gearbox. A pinion meshing with the input of the gearbox has a short mounting shaft which is cemented into one end of the sleeve. The output shaft of the motor is keyed to a hub received in the other end of the sleeve. A plurality of matching outwardly open recesses on the hub are alignable with similar inwardly open recesses in the sleeve and connecting members each comprising a steel rod surrounded by an elastomeric layer are received in these recesses so as rotationally to link the hub to the sleeve. Misalignment of the motor output shaft with the input of the gearbox is therefore compensated for by these elastic connecting members.

  • Patent number: 3955427
Abstract: A starter motor for an internal combustion engine including a pinion gear wheel assembly movable between a rest position and an operative position. The pinion gear wheel assembly is movable by a solenoid the armature of the solenoid being coupled to the pinion gear wheel assembly by way of a lever pivoted on the starter motor casing. The lever is in the form of a pair of resilient elements. The first resilient element is weaker than the resilient means which urges the armature towards its rest position, so that should the pinion gear wheel assembly be held in its operative position when the electromagnet is de-energised then the armature can be returned to its rest position flexing the first element. The second element supports the first element during movement of the lever assembly to push the pinion gear wheel assembly to its operative position.
