Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide system and methods for organizing, browsing and editing materials stored in a computer system. The system is configured to dynamically create an organizational structure for the materials according to classification groups specified by the creator of each stored material. Additionally, the system is configured to expose certain editable material parameters of a selected material to the end-user and make available specific GUI elements to the end-user so that the end-user can edit the selected material, thereby changing the appearance of the material.

Abstract: The present invention provides techniques relating to collaboratively authored stories and electronic books, and the writing thereof. Techniques are provided in which a template relating to a story, and a set of rules governing collaborative writing of the story by multiple user authors, are obtained. Writing contributions, for integration into the story, may be obtained from each of the user authors. A completed story is obtained, in which forming the completed story includes integrating the writing contributions. Access to the story, such as in the form of an electronic book, is provided to users, such as for a fee.

Abstract: Described herein is a method and apparatus for generating and managing multiple desktops. The desktops can be tied to virtual software environments, remote desktops, separate user account desktops, shared desktops, full screen applications or similar sources. The desktops are managed through a desktop management interface that displays a scale image of each current desktop. The desktops can also be marked by type in the interface. The desktop management system queries a user during start-up for each program to determine whether a new desktop is to be generated for the program. The desktop management system also manages the switching between the available desktops.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for personalizing software programs in a computer system. In accordance with one implementation, default values for personalization data adapted to or harmonized with the individual needs or preferences of the end-user are provided to a plurality of end-users at start-up of a program. Further, two personalization levels are provided, including a first personalization level containing administrative personalization data which can be set by a system administrator, and a second personalization level containing individual personalization data, which can be set by the end-user. A data filing system for this personalization data may be of a hierarchical structure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for facilitating access to content stored remotely, for example, as part of a virtual machine infrastructure or elsewhere in a networked environment, using a uniform mechanism are provided. Example embodiments provide an Enhanced Virtual Desktop Management Server/System with a Content Abstraction Layer which enables users to access their data stored as part of a virtual machine environment, or replicated otherwise on a network, using a generic API. The API can be incorporated into a web browser or other third party interface to provide access to the users' data without needing to remote a bitmap representation of a virtual desktop display. Accordingly, users can access their data, applications, and settings regardless of the type of access device and regardless of whether the corresponding virtual desktop is running in the data center, provisioned in the datacenter but running on a client device, or not running at all.

On the basis of this weather information, weather information image data is created for displaying the weather information superimposed upon a map. When the weather information display map is scrolled, the range of the map data shifts. Together therewith, the range of the weather information image data also shifts. After a map has been drawn on the basis of the map data for the shifted range, icons or the like that describe the weather information are drawn as superimposed upon this map on the basis of the weather information image data for the shifted range. Then the image data stored in the image memory is read in, and the weather information display map that has been drawn is display upon the display monitor.

The apparatus includes image generating means for generating an image with two image sections, wherein a display window associated with the process visualization system is displayed in the image. The method includes determining, at a set-top box device, that a plurality of menu items in a menu includes a particular menu item associated with a content item that is to be promoted when displaying the plurality of menu items in the menu. The method further includes displaying the plurality of menu items in the menu. A determination is made at the set top box whether to display a promotion of the content item. In response to determining to display the promotion, the promotion of the content item is displayed beside the plurality of menu items, and a right command is enabled allowing a cursor position to jump directly to the particular menu item from a different menu item of the plurality of menu items. The jump is performed after a single application of the right command, where the different menu item does not have a restriction as to a position in the menu. In response to determining not to display the promotion, the right command is disabled.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an information processing apparatus, an information processing method, and a program that enable easy information acquisition. A television receiver accesses an application server to acquire an application list. The television receiver accesses the application server again to acquire an application selected from the application list. While a processing based on the acquired application is being executed, the television receiver accesses a contents server to acquire contents data as needed. The acquired application or contents data is deleted from a storage section when an instruction to end the processing based on the application is made. The invention can be applied to a television receiver that acquires data through a network.

Abstract: A system and method creates an output document file that describes the appearance of a source document from a print stream of commands received from an application, and allows the output document file to be printed or displayed via a lightweight application, such as a plug-in to a browser. User interface controls are merged into the document at the time of creation, allowing those controls to be customized to viewer's needs.

Abstract: An apparatus to manage a multimedia-information-configuring graphical user interface includes a storage unit that includes a mapping information table to store a state of a widget and an action mapped to the state and a current state table to store a current state of the widget, an input unit to receive GUI-setting data to set a configuration and an operation of the widget, and a control unit to generate the mapping information table by parsing the GUI-setting data, searches the mapping information table for the action using the current state table, and to perform the action found by the searching.

Abstract: Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and graphical user interfaces (GUI's) for interactively presenting features within the panes of a display area rendered in a GUI workspace are provided. Initially, a computing device memory is inspected to discover a profile that accommodates a user-visual pattern. When the profile is not discovered, a default page layout is retrieved and communicated to the display device for presentation within the display area. If the profile is discovered, commonly viewed screen locations, based upon a frequency of eye fixation upon each of the screen locations, are ordered. Contextually relevant features are selected for presentation within the display area. The selected features are ranked based on predetermined criteria and each associated with the commonly viewed screen locations by comparing the ranking with the ordering.

Abstract: A system is disclosed for reducing the time required to generate web pages on post-back of collaborative web applications. Content from web pages of the collaborative web applications may be displayed in respective foreground and background IFRAMES over a display. Upon post-back to load content from a new web page in the foreground IFRAME, the content from the background IFRAME persists, thus saving the round trip otherwise required to update content from the background IFRAME. Initialization and update of the content in the background IFRAME may be performed when interaction with the content in the foreground IFRAME is idle.
