  • Patent number: 5221116
Abstract: An auxiliary locking device to be employed in a door knob includes a lock body that has at least two parallel through-bores extending through the body. A first retaining bolt is slidably received in one of the through-bores and includes two ends extending out from the lock body. A second retaining bolt is slidably received in the other one of the through bore and has an end portion extending from the lock body. The end portion of the second bolt has a plate member with an opening around the periphery of which a wall body is mounted. The wall body confines a through-hole that generally has a cross-section equal to and in communication with the opening.

  • Patent number: 5219196
Abstract: A strike mechanism for a door lock comprising a recessed strike plate (9) which in use is fitted into a door jamb to receive a latch bolt (14) and a strike (10) which is pivotal between a first position in which the bolt (14) is held within the recess and the door is locked shut and a second position in which the bolt (14) is released so the door may be opened. The strike (10) is lockable in the first position by pins (19, 20, 21) which are remotely operable by a solenoid (26) to extend or retract across adjoining surfaces of the strike (10) and plate (9) and prevent relative movement therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5219193
Abstract: A check rail lock with a handle pivot shaft secured for pivotal movement with respect to the housing and a cam which pivots with the shaft between an open position with the cam enclosed in the housing and a locking position with the cam extending from the housing for grasping a keeper. An axially reciprocable locking member is associated with the pivot shaft for pivoting therewith, and has a manually engageable button end projecting above the housing and a locking end within the housing. The locking end has circumferentially spaced locking surfaces, and a spring biases the member locking end into engagement with the housing. First and second locking notches in the housing receive the member locking end when the cam and handle are in the open and locking positions, respectively, and the locking notches each have a surface engaging one of the locking end locking surfaces to prevent pivoting of the locking member and pivot shaft when the member locking end is received therein.

  • Patent number: 5219194
Abstract: A security seal and method for detecting tampering. The security seal includes a first member, an adhesive layer applied to the first member, and an indicia printed directly on the adhesive layer in a desired detectable pattern. In one embodiment, the first member is adhered to the second member with the indicia detectable at least through the first member. With this arrangement, the pattern becomes detectably disrupted if the first and second members are moved relative to each other. In the preferred embodiment, both of the first and second members are part of a single transparent strip that can be looped through a shipping container locking mechanism and attached to prevent unauthorized access to the shipping container. In one form, tamper indicating tape is used to form the tamper indicating message "VOID" thereon if tampered with, thus giving a second visual indication of tampering. Heat sensitive material is used to prevent overcoming the tamper indicating tape by heating.

  • Patent number: 5217260
Abstract: An improvement in a control valve having a body, a body interior portion and plural exterior ports in communication with the interior portion. The improvement includes a plurality of dovetail-like body slots "isolated" or spaced from other slots. Each slot intersects an aperture in fluid communication with the body interior portion. A complementarily shaped, friction-retained slide-by plate is in each slot and at least one plate includes a port in fluid communication with the slot aperture. Each plate slides for removal without disturbing any other plate. A plate may be a blind closure plate, a ported plate tapped with any of several thread sizes or a "back-to-back" interface plate for supportively mounting valve bodies in tandem. A control valve system including a slotted valve body and an assortment of plates of various types provides substantially "universal" porting between the body and another valve body and/or one or more separate control components.

  • Patent number: 5217264
Abstract: A lock intended primarily for gliding or hinged doors or windows. The lock is an improvement over the prior art in that it is a very simple mechanism which nonetheless is secure and cannot be back-driven. The lock mechanism is made up of essentially two parts: a cam gear which is rotatably mounted on a housing and acts as an actuator, and a cam rack which is linearly slidable relative to the housing. Rotation of the cam gear causes the cam rack to move between an unlocked and a locked position. Once in the locked position, a gear tooth of the cam gear engages with a stop surface on the cam rack to prevent the cam rack from being back-driven.

  • Patent number: 5217268
Abstract: A door security system has a floor contacting foot pivoted on a prop, itself pivoted on a locking system attached to a door support. A bracket with opposed spaced apart face walls joined by edge wall to receive a door corner may be used to attach the door support. A hand releasable locking system has saw teeth engaging saw teeth on the door support. Prop mountings on both foot and locking system restrict the floor prop angle, which may be from 60.degree. to 70.degree., and conveniently 65.degree. to 70.degree., especially 69.degree.. The device may be installed permanently or temporarily, on a door, it is far more effective than a door chain. A ratchet may be incorporated to tighten the prop, and a release lever to `break` the prop. A floor plate with a hole may be used to fix the foot to the floor by a pin passing through a similar hole in the foot.

  • Patent number: 5217265
Abstract: A child-resistant latch release mechanism which requires operation of two control members which are separated by a distance greater than that which can be effectively spanned by a preschool child. The two control members must be operated first in a certain sequence and then simultaneously in order to permit operation of the latch release mechanism. Conventional self-latching upon closure is retained by the invention latch release mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5215342
Abstract: A lock striker unit comprises generally a striker and a plastic cover. The striker includes a base plate, a generally U-shaped rod secured to the base plate and a molded plastic material covering the rod to provide each shank portion of the same with a diametrically larger portion and a diametrically smaller groove portion. The groove portion is positioned near the base plate. The plastic cover is sized to cover a major surface of the base plate and has an elongate slit which is constructed to permit the U-shaped rod to pass therethrough. The elongate slit includes two circular openings connected through a thinner slit. Each circular opening is so sized as to make a latched engagement with the groove portion of the shank portion when the plastic cover is properly attached to the base plate.

  • Patent number: 5213380
Abstract: A testing device (1) with a test button (4) and a rod-shaped plunger (5) for testing a locking device that can be actuated on a door (2) pivotable around a hinge on a container (3) is to be improved in terms of simple design and mounting. To simplify design and mounting, a fastening structure (8, 7) for the movable, rotatable mounting of the testing device (1) is arranged on the door (2). The end (13) of the plunger pointing toward the container (3) is provided with a holding structure (14) which is introduced into a mounting support (16) arranged permanently on the container (3) such that the holding structure (14) is out of engagement with the mounting support (16) in normal operation, and in testing operation. The holding structure engages the mounting support (16) in such a way as to limit the pivoting stroke of the door (2).
