  • Patent number: 10438511
Abstract: A spine surgery modeling system simulates the spine with various vertebral body or disc conditions and allows a user to make adjustments and examine the three dimensional outcome of such adjustments. The spine surgery modeling system includes a spine model and a drive mechanism. The spine model has vertebral bodies and a disc space defined between adjacent vertebral bodies. The drive mechanism includes a worm gear, a worm, a rigid shaft, and a button. The worm engages the worm gear such that rotation of the worm causes rotation of the worm gear. The rigid shaft extends through a through hole defined in the worm and is configured to rotate the worm. The button is operatively engaged with the worm gear such that rotation of the worm gear causes movement of the button between collapsed and expanded states to change a height of the disc space.

  • Patent number: 10269264
Abstract: A tactile display apparatus renders information to a user, and comprises multiple braille cells attached adjacent to each other along a predefined path, a set of pins housed within the braille cells, and a set of pin holders inserted on the braille cells. The braille cells are moved periodically at a predefined speed via a driving assembly. The pins are selectively actuated by actuators, where the linear motion of the braille cells allow the user to contact the pins to read the information represented by the arrangement of the pins. The pin holders are moved along a defined path to contact the pins, and each pin holder comprises a rigid body and multiple elastic rings attached along the rigid body. The number of elastic rings is equal to the number of pins to allow the pin holder to selectively hold or release a pin.

  • Patent number: 10198966
Abstract: The present invention provides a surgical training device for training laparoscopic first entry surgical techniques. The training device includes a simulated abdominal wall that is penetrable with an optical trocar. A receptacle containing a tissue simulation is located inside the receptacle. The tissue simulation is observable via scope placed inside the optical trocar. Upon penetration of the one or more of the simulated abdominal wall and receptacle, the tissue simulation appears to translate distally relative to the simulated abdominal wall. The distal translation is effected by a variety of ways including the release of negative pressure inside the receptacle upon penetration and the expansion of an elastic wall of the receptacle with the introduction of fluid under pressure into the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 10134307
Abstract: A method for guiding a user in performing a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedure on a patient involving a user portable device comprising a camera, and a display. The method includes receiving a video of the patient captured by the camera, and processing the video to segment a chest region of the patient. A target position on the chest where to position hands for performing CPR is then determined, and this position is then shown on the display, hereby guiding the user in obtaining a suitable hand position for performing CPR. The method can be implemented as a software application in a personal portable device such as a smart phone, a tablet application software, a wearable computer with head-mounted display etc. Further, the video of the scene captured by the camera can be processed to provide information regarding functional quality of CPR, e.g. compression frequency and depth, during the CPR procedure.
