Abstract: A financial instrument exchange, system and method based upon the intensity of an underlying index. The instrument having a predetermined formula for a settlement price based at least in part on the formula: AR = [ 1 N ? ? j = 1 N ? r j ] × C where: N=a number of total observation periods; C=a constant multiplier; and rj=a capped absolute period return calculated using the formula: rj=min(d,|xj|); where: d=a contract period observation cap; and xj=a period return based on a formula of the group consisting of: x j = ln ? ( I j I j - 1 ) ; and x j = ( I j I j - 1 ) - 1 ; where: Ij=a reference index reported price/level j observation periods after an initial observation date/time. The periods can variable and measured in days, weeks, months, quarters and years. The instrument is traded at a market-determined price from creation through the date of expiration.

  • Patent number: 8666893
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to an electronic funds transfer authentication system and method to facilitate the verification and authentication of a user and the ownership of the source account from which funds are being transferred to another account. The user and transfer data is validated, and then the electronic funds transfer is validated using payment analytics that analyze the behavioral characteristics of the user which may be derived from both internal and external sources of information. Using a unique combination of security measures and procedures, the risk associated with various types of fund transfers is reduced, thereby enabling a financial institution to protect its customers' accounts with a greater degree of certainty.

  • Patent number: 8666863
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring transaction data and providing an indication regarding a performance parameter to a payment processing entity. Transaction data associated with a plurality of transactions conducted during a time interval is received. A server computer determines that the received transaction data meets a threshold. It is further determined whether a previous indication that the threshold has been met was provided to a payment processing entity, the previous indication being associated with a plurality of previous transactions conducted during a previous time interval. If the previous indication was not provided, an indication that the threshold has been met is provided to the payment processing entity, the indication including information regarding a performance parameter of the payment processing entity.

  • Patent number: 8655782
Abstract: A user may claim to have not made or allowed a transaction and that the transaction was made in error. Where it appears the user has not authorized the transaction, the funds of the transaction are returned to the user, or are charged back. Systems and methods provide a way to confirm whether or not a transaction was actually authorized by the user, thereby settling a chargeback dispute for a previously executed transaction. The method comprises receiving the dispute regarding the transaction including associated transaction data, and retrieving a digital signature associated with the transaction data, the digital signature computed by signing the transaction data. The digital signature is then verified using a public key, wherein the public key corresponds to a private key stored on a mobile device. It is then determined whether or not the transaction is fraudulent based on a verification result of the digital signature.

  • Patent number: 8589281
Abstract: The present invention is directed to investing in exchange traded funds (ETF) using trading blocks of purchases with conditional sales. The present invention determines a number of trading blocks which each define a price of an ETF at which a purchase and sale will be made. Each block defines a purchase price and a sale price. When the ETF reaches the purchase price defined in a block, a purchase of a specified number of shares in the ETF is made, and a conditional sale order is activated so that the purchased shares are sold when the ETF reaches the sale price. The trading blocks can be defined such that the purchase price in each block is spaced thereby causing multiple purchases and sales to be made as the price of the ETF moves over a period of time. In this way, an investor can capitalize on the volatility of an ETF.
