  • Patent number: 9265005
Abstract: Methods of throttling video streaming downloads in burst transmissions to a mobile device are driven by the network client. By knowing various input parameters such as the media bitrate, the current (average) network link bitrate, transceiver state timeout characteristics (e.g., inactivity timers), and power consumption information for various mobile device operating states, the network client can decide the proportion of each repeating burst interval duration to spend in an idle state. From a control parameter and the other input parameters, it can calculate the amount of media data it then needs to request in each burst transmission. Other calculations further inform this decision, such as the relative average power consumption (as compared to staying at a high activity state continuously).

  • Patent number: 9258702
Abstract: A technique for implementing AP-local dynamic switching involves Layer 2 switching. This may be accomplished by providing data associated with wireless stations to an AP sufficient to enable the AP to determine whether traffic from a particular wireless station should be locally switched. Alternatively, the wireless station may be able to determine whether to locally switch traffic based upon the traffic itself. For example, it may be desirable to AP-locally switch voice traffic to avoid latency, which is particularly detrimental to voice transmissions such as voice-over-IP. Traffic that is not to be switched locally is Layer 2 tunneled upstream.

  • Patent number: 9236938
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for improving the capabilities of an evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network, in particular for cases when more than one radio access network applying a time-division duplex transmission mode need to co-exist on a same carrier. The invention addresses further problems concerning an efficient allocation of uplink resources and resource allocation in a handover situation. The present invention assigns an attribute in form of a distinguishing value to the time slots used for the uplink and downlink transmission on said carrier such as to avoid scheduling of transmissions via a first radio access network in downlink or uplink time slots assigned to the second radio access network and to avoid scheduling of transmissions via the second radio access network in uplink time slots assigned for transmissions in the first radio access network.

  • Patent number: 9232478
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a set of time intervals is obtained from a received radio frequency signal. A power profile is determined for a frequency spectrum segment in each time interval. A first list is used to identify frequency spectrum segments that exhibit a power or energy profile over a range of frequencies associated with a downlink channel bandwidth, and a second list is used to identify frequency spectrum segments that have a total or average energy greater than a threshold energy relative to a noise floor. An absolute radio frequency channel number (ARFCN) of a wireless communication system is determined based on the time intervals identified in the first and second lists.

  • Patent number: 9232426
Abstract: The re-transmission of transmission units (TUs) received in a communication device over a communication link is controlled to improve the information carrying capacity of the link. A received TU has an associated service characteristic indicative of a quality of service (QOS) for the TU. The service characteristic is associated with a select set of key performance indicators (KPIs), such as measures of packet error, packet delay, packet delay variation, and/or packet loss experienced by TUs on the communication link. Upon receipt of a TU, the performance of the communication link is evaluated with respect to each KPI in the select set to obtain a corresponding measurement value, and the measurement values are compared to corresponding threshold values. Upon determining that a determined performance value does not satisfy a corresponding threshold value for a KPI in the select set, re-transmission of the TU is requested.
