Patent number: 6419519Abstract: A backshell adapter assembly includes a clamp body and one or more extending strain relief arms, pivotably connected to the clamp body. The strain relief arms are adapted to receive a pair of opposing saddle clamps or cable tie to provide radial clamping of a wire bundle relative to the backshell adapter assembly to prevent axial movement of the cable in response to axial forces thereupon. The extending strain relief arms are adapted to be rotated between various positions including −90° to +90°. Provisions may be provided for securing the extending arms at various detent positions relative to the axis of the clamp body. As such the need for separate tooling for different configurations is eliminated, thus lowering the cost of the device. In addition, the use of such backshell adapter assemblies is greatly simplified.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2000Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Glenair Inc.Inventor: Thomas Frederic Young

Patent number: 6420660Abstract: The chips for chip cards are customarily provided on a film strip which consists of a synthetic foil and a conductor track pattern and are connected to the conductor track pattern by way of bonding wires. Automatic mounting is made possible by the use of a film strip with periodically arranged conductor track patterns. For chips which can be driven via contacts as well as in a contactless manner, using a coil, conductor tracks are effectively provided on both sides of the synthetic foil forming the film strip. However, the film strip then becomes very inflexible so that it cannot be suitably handled by conventional automatic apparatus. The invention proposes to provide the metal foils wherefrom the conductor tracks are cut out with additional interruptions which reduce the cross-section of the metal foils at short intervals in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the film. The film strip thus becomes more flexible so that it can be handled by conventional automatic apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1999Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Koninklijke Philips ElectronicsInventors: Veronika Sauer, Ben Slager, Friedrich Lach, Alfred Bauer, Horst Hartmann, Günter Kolodzei

Patent number: 6416350Abstract: For a contact means for conductor foils which comprise at least one conductor path (14), an especially reliable contact for a long period of time shall be guaranteed. To this end the contact means comprises a pressure element (16) which is provided with a projection (24) presenting a continuous pressure surface (25), and a counter pressure element (18) provided with a recess (28) the contour of which is adapted to the shape of the pressure surface, the projection being prestressed elastically against the counter pressure element such that a conductor foil to be contacted is clamped between the pressure surface (25) and the edge of the recess (28). Thus, it is possible to maintain a constant contact force even if the conductor foil eventually yields.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2000Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: Harting Automotive GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6416348Abstract: An insulation-displacement terminal fitting (10) has plate-shaped blades (27) disposed before V-shaped contact portions (23) along a wire-insertion direction. The blades (27) make cuts (C) in an insulation coating (Wb) of a wire (W). The insulation coating (Wb) then is cut open by the V-shaped contact portions (23). A cut-open piece (Wc) of the insulation coating (Wb) that is caught by the contact portions (23) is not forcibly stretched. Thus, a core (Wa) is not pulled in a direction to be withdrawn from a clearance between the contact portions (23). An accommodation space (30) in which the caught cut-open piece (Wc) of the insulation coating (Wb) is accommodated is located within a height range of side walls (21). Thus, the cut-open piece (Wc) of the insulation coating (Wb) does not project above the side walls (21).Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2001Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Masahide Hio, Eiji Kojima
