  • Patent number: 11669972
Abstract: A system detects multiple instances of an object in a digital image by receiving a two-dimensional (2D) image that includes a plurality of instances of an object in an environment. For example, the system may receive the 2D image from a camera or other sensing modality of an autonomous vehicle (AV). The system uses a first object detection network to generate a plurality of predicted object instances in the image. The system then receives a data set that comprises depth information corresponding to the plurality of instances of the object in the environment. The data set may be received, for example, from a stereo camera of an AV, and the depth information may be in the form of a disparity map. The system may use the depth information to identify an individual instance from the plurality of predicted object instances in the image.

  • Patent number: 11665318
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses an object detection method used in an object detection apparatus that includes the steps outlined below. An image signal received from an image sensor is detected to generate an image detection signal when an image variation is detected. An infrared signal received from an infrared sensor is detected to generate an infrared detection signal when an infrared energy variation is detected. A time counting process is initialized when the image detection signal is generated. An object detection signal is generated when the infrared detection signal is generated within a predetermined time period after the time counting process is initialized. A detection distance of the image sensor is larger than a detection distance of the infrared sensor.

  • Patent number: 11656088
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to estimate the location of a vehicle based at least in part upon two or more road signs that are depicted by one or more images captured by one or more image capture devices onboard the vehicle. By relying at least in part upon the two or more road signs, the location of the vehicle may be refined or otherwise estimated with enhanced accuracy, such as in instances in which there is an inability to maintain a line-of-sight with the satellites of a satellite positioning system or otherwise in instances in which the location estimated based upon reliance on satellite or radio signals is considered insufficient. As a result, the vehicle may be navigated in a more informed and reliable manner and the relationship of the vehicle to other vehicles may be determined with greater confidence.

  • Patent number: 11601605
Abstract: An improved camera system includes an uncooled thermal imaging sensor, a rotary actuator, a rotary encoder, and a slip ring. The rotary actuator is physically coupled to the uncooled thermal imaging sensor and enables the sensor to rotate a full 360 degrees any number of times relative to the system's horizontal base. Through the use of the slip ring, the sensor and the sensor's wiring can rotate freely without impedance. Notably, the sensor's wiring can be disposed through a central through-hole running the length of the rotary actuator. Therefore, prior to reaching the slip ring, the sensor and its wiring rotate in unison with the rotary actuator. The encoder is structured to monitor the angular position of the sensor in order to accurately determine where the sensor is being aimed.
