Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing IM conversations is provided. In response to idle time and, preferably, read message status, particular current conversations are removed from a list of current conversations. The removed conversations may be moved to an archive which may be automatically maintained in response to size constraints. An archive interface is facilitated to review conversations, save all or portions thereof, delete, etc. The archived conversations are preferably associated with the contact for the conversation to show a history of conversations.

Abstract: Methods and devices for presenting a virtual keyboard are provided. More particularly, in connection with a multiple screen device, a virtual keyboard can be presented in a first mode using portions of both of the screens. In a second mode, the virtual keyboard can be presented using all of one of the screens. Movement between the different modes can be effected by rotating the device between a dual portrait orientation, corresponding to the first mode, and a dual landscape orientation, corresponding to the second mode. More particularly, with the screens of the device in a landscape orientation, one screen can be devoted to present the virtual keyboard while the other screen remains available to present other information.

Abstract: An item display method and apparatus that provides an easier and faster way to locate a desired item on a display. The method and apparatus receive a user gesture on display screen, and display one or both of items of a first category and items of a second category according to the user gesture. Items of the first category and items of the second category are displayed in various ways according to associated user gestures.

Abstract: A data visualization system comprising: a data retrieval module arranged to retrieve data from a data storage module in communication with the data visualization system, wherein the retrieved data includes data sets for representation in a tree map; a tree map generation module arranged to generate a tree map based on the retrieved data, wherein the tree map generation module is further arranged to: i) sort the retrieved data sets according to the size of the data sets; ii) define an area for generating multiple rectangles, each rectangle representing one of the data sets, wherein the area is defined to allow the data sets to be spatially arranged within the area; iii) accumulate data points for data within the data sets to generate a rectangle that has dimensions that fall within pre-defined parameters; iv) generate a rectangle for each data set; and v) orientate the rectangle such that its orientation is only changed if the rectangle does not fit in the available area.

Abstract: An input device includes an input unit for inputting a predetermined motion image signal, a motion detector for detecting a motion on the basis of the motion image signal inputted into the input unit, a video signal processor for outputting a predetermined video signal, and a controller. The controller controls the video signal processor so that, when a motion detector detects a first motion, the video signal processor outputs a video signal to explain a predetermined second motion to be next detected by the motion detector after the detection of the first motion to a user.

Abstract: The present invention will provide a system that organizes content based on time, location, involved entities, and events, and relates this information to the user in an easy to read and intuitive display. This is accomplished by utilizing a data acquisition module, a link generation module, a conflicts module, a graphical data intersection module, a data filtering module, a mapping module, a presentation module, and a data integration module. These modules allow for a user to input events information into an easy to manipulate multiple interactive timeline display.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing a page flipping mode in electronic touch sensitive devices. The user can engage the page flipping mode by performing an activation gesture, which causes the device to display a magazine page flipping mode or a fast page flipping mode. The page flipping modes may show paginated content such as an opened book or magazine in a single stack or side-by-side layout. The fast page flipping modes may show a single page lying relatively flat or somewhat curled with the edges of subsequent pages visible at the right edge of the page. A page flipping gesture may prompt an animation showing one or more pages folding up to display subsequent pages to the user. In some cases, the number of pages being flipped and/or the speed at which the pages are flipped, is dependent upon the speed and/or length and/or duration of the page flipping gesture.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of enabling participation by a first client and a second client in a communication session in a multi-dimensional virtual environment, the multi-dimensional virtual environment having first and second avatars respectively associated with the first and second clients and a plurality of objects distinct from the avatars. Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for previewing search results determined in response to search queries input into a browser toolbar search box are provided. Descriptors of search results determined to match the input search query are presented in a search results window that overlays a first portion of the browser web page. Upon receiving an indication that the user desires to view one of the presented search results, a preview of a web page associated with the indicated search result is presented overlaying a second portion of the browser page. If the user determines from the preview that the indicated search result does not provide the desired information, s/he may move the mouse pointer to a different search result. In response, a web page associated with the second indicated search result is presented overlaying the second portion of the browser page for the user to preview.

A navigation path can be determined from users on the social networking web site that are associated with the viewer on the web site. A navigation path can be determined from analysis of an interaction history of the viewer on the social networking web site, apart from the viewer's profile and the viewer's associated users on the web site.
