  • Patent number: 5148973
Abstract: An interlocking carton and lid combination is disclosed for storage of ice cream, frozen yogurt and the like. The interlocking combination includes a rectangular container provided with flaps integrally formed therewith and attached along the upper edges of the container sides. The flaps are folded along a crease inwardly into the container and glued along a strip portion to the side walls. A slit is provided in each of two opposed sides on the exterior thereof, the slits being formed in the side walls at a position adjacent the flaps and located below the crease and above the glue strip adhesively coupling the flap to the side wall. This positioning of the slit with respect to the crease and glue strip cause the unglued portion of the flap to bow outwardly. A lid having a central portion is provided with transversely extending flanges attached along the peripheral edges of the central portion and integrally formed therewith.

  • Patent number: 5149202
Abstract: An improved container structure is formed from a tube blank and a layer of transparent, plastic material having at least one pair of opposed edges adhered to the outer surface of the tube blank, in order to form a clear outer pouch on the container for convenient insertion of promotional or visual material. In the preferred embodiments, an improved paper bag has the clear outer pouch formed over either its face panel, gusset panel, or back panel. The pouch may be formed with a lateral cut dividing an upper part of the transparent layer which is adhered to the container surface, and a lower part which is not adhered and forms a lower pouch. The pouch may similarly be formed on cartons of paperboard, laminate, plastic, and other stock materials.

  • Patent number: 5148931
Abstract: This invention provides a new and simple tamper-resistant, safety closure for a container having threaded neck. It requires the user to align the two arrows, then give it an upward lift while turning in the counter-clockwise direction to unscrew it from the container.Features of the invention useful in accomplishing the above objects include an outer cap and an inner cap. The interior surface of the outer cap has a plurality of identical protrusions, called the type A protrusions, and one type B protrusion. The exterior surface of the inner cap has a plurality of identical grooves, called the type A grooves, and one type B groove. If the type B protrusion is lifted into the type B groove, then the two caps inter-lock and turning the outer cap in the counter-clockwise direction would also turn the inner cap in the same direction, resulting in the unscrewing of the closure from the container.

  • Patent number: 5148932
Abstract: The Assembly has a base formed of a strip or sheet of plastic material which has a plurality of holes formed therein. Holes in ends of the sheet are aligned to receive fasteners to fix the sheet into a simple band. Other plastic sheets are turned into cylinders, which are set into the base, for the receipt therein of recyclable materials. The cylinders or sleeves are also formed of multi-holed sheets of plastic material. Again, sheet end holes are used, with fasteners, to fix the sleeves into their cylindrical form. Further ones of the holes are used to fix adjacent sleeves together, in the base, and some are used to fix the sleeves to the base. The Assembly can be provided as a rolled-up kit of the requisite holed sheets and a supply of fasteners.

  • Patent number: 5148937
Abstract: A cap is disclosed, for use on a container having a neck defining an opening sealed by a protective foil that has to be removed when the container is used for the very first time. The cap comprises a top sized to close the opening and a peripheral skirt that projects from the top and is detachably connectable to the wall of the neck. The cap also comprises at least one and preferably two open slots made in the skirt, the slots extending at angle from the bottom edge of the slot and being wide engage to receive the wall of the neck. The slots make the skirt to define spikes that preferably are oppositely oriented for use by right-handed or left-handed persons to perforate and remove the protective foil sealing the neck of the container when the latter has to be opened for the very first time.

  • Patent number: 5148939
Abstract: A storage and transport container for a fluent material has a stiff outer vessel having an upright side wall formed of a grid of steel bars and a floor. The floor is inclined with respect to the horizontal downward to a predetermined low point at the side wall. An elastically flexible liner in the vessel has a side and a base respectively generally corresponding to the side wall and floor of the vessel and is provided at the low point with a drain fitting. The base is inclined when the liner is only partially filled with the fluent material to the horizontal to the low point at an angle substantially greater than that between the vessel floor and the horizontal but forms the same angle and lying on the floor when fully filled with the fluent material.

  • Patent number: 5147057
Abstract: A single service container having a closure cap with a recessed portion extending generally interiorly of said container. A tab is defined by a score line which, upon deflection of a an actuating member on the cap, substantially separates from the remainder of the recessed portion forming an opening in the cap. Once the tab has been separated, it is deflected through the opening and prevented from obstructing the opening by the actuating member being positioned in an interference relationship between the interior of the container, adjacent the opening, and the tab.

  • Patent number: 5147067
Abstract: A handled, open-ended, single layer, elastic and resilient thermal insulator for cylindrical beverage containers made in the form of a flat rectangular strip of foamed cross-linked polyolefin which is slightly longer than the circumference of the container to be insulated and has a pair of overlapping inter-engaging tabs at its opposite end portions and integral closed handle elements extending radially outwardly from above and below the tabs when the strip is applied to such a container. The insulator is made by a method in which a generally rectangular strip is cut from a panel of such flexible expanded thermal insulating material and, at the same time, a U-shaped cut is made in the interior of each of the opposite terminal portions of the strip to thereby produce flexible tabs, with the open end of each of the U-shaped cuts facing each other.

  • Patent number: 5147054
Abstract: A tamper-proof container for over-the-counter drugs or the like includes a cylindrical plastic bottle which tapers to a narrow neck. An annular angled depression is molded into the bottle neck. A two-part closure includes a cap ring onto which is molded an annular angled projection sized and positioned to mate with the angled depression in the bottle neck when the cap ring is snapped over the bottle mouth. A hinged cap is attached to the cap ring and has a plurality of tamper tab projections connected thereto via a like plurality of frangible tear regions. The tamper tab projections mate with corresponding tamper tab depressions in the cap ring when the hinged cap is closed. After the bottle is filled, a tamper-evident seal is adhered over the mouth of the bottle and the cap ring is snapped over the bottle mouth, enclosing the tamper-evident seal. The cap ring is then ultrasonically welded to the bottle neck and the cap is ultrasonically welded to the cap ring via the tamper tabs.

  • Patent number: 5147059
Abstract: A seal for a container having an outwardly directed annular rim. The seal includes a top panel with a central section and an annular lever section integrally joined to the central section by a living hinge. A side wall integrally depends from the outer periphery of the lever section and includes an inwardly directed concavity for receiving the rim edge. A continuous convexity below the concavity provides for a snap-mounting of the seal to the container rim and a vertical skirt below the convexity provides for a guide for mounting the seal. A fulcrum rib depends from the undersurface of the lever section and engages the container rim on a depression of the top panel at the hinge to swing the side wall away from the rim. Vent openings are provided through both the fulcrum rib and the convexity to maintain pressure release air flow as the seal is mounted and removed.
