  • Patent number: 9002528
Abstract: A method and system detects and resolves impending failures in a sump pump. The method and system may measure the current water level in a sump basin, which houses the sump pump. The current water level may be determined by a water level sensor placed slightly above the high water level mark in the sump basin. If the current water level is above the high water level mark, the method and system may activate a mechanical shaker that produces vibrations to physically shake the sump pump. If the current water level is below the high water level mark, the method and system may analyze a motor of the sump pump to determine if the run time of the motor exceeds a certain length of time. When the run time is determined to exceed the certain length of time, the method and system may send an alarm to notify a user.

  • Patent number: 8996139
Abstract: A method for synchronizing a first control device and a second control device of a redundantly structured automation device that controls a technical process is provided. The first control device and the second control device are connected to each other. The first and second devices include functional components which implement the functions that control the technical process. The first control device performs the functions in the functional components for controlling the technical process in cycles, thus creating internal states of the functional components. During control of the technical process by the first control device, information about the internal states of the functional components is transferred, distributed over several cycles, to the second control device. The second control device assigns the transmitted information about the internal states to the functional components. In addition, a corresponding redundantly structured automation device is provided.

  • Patent number: 8972069
Abstract: A controller for controlling operation of a solar power system is disclosed. The controller receives electrical power from an energy capture device and outputs electrical power to one or more external loads. The controller initiates a first maximum power point tracking algorithm during an epoch. The controller then determines whether the first maximum power point tracking algorithm is satisfactory. If it is, the controller continues using the first maximum power point tracking algorithm. If it is not, the controller switches to second maximum power point tracking algorithm. The first and second maximum power point tracking algorithms may be optimized for different environmental conditions, such as different amounts of sunlight incident on a solar panel.

  • Patent number: 8965588
Abstract: Devices and methods for the decentralized, coordinated control of the voltage of an electrical distribution system are provided. For example, a controller may include a network interface and data processing circuitry. The network interface may receive first measurements associated with a segment of an electrical distribution system and transmit a control signal configured to control equipment of the segment of the electrical distribution system. The data processing circuitry may run digital simulations of the segment of the electrical distribution system in various equipment configurations, selecting from among the various equipment configurations an equipment configuration that is expected to cause the voltage deviation of the segment to approach a desired value. The data processing circuitry then may generate the control signal, which may cause the equipment of the segment of the electrical distribution system to conform to the equipment configuration.
