  • Patent number: 8886115
Abstract: A method for controlling gain in a wireless repeater includes computing a gain control metric indicative of a loop gain of the repeater and detecting changes in a signal power of a gain control input signal where the gain control input signal is taken from any point in the feedback loop of the repeater. When a large power swing in the gain control input signal is detected, the method operates to discard at least a portion of each gain control metric measurement for a first duration before continuing with computing the gain control metric. In another embodiment, the method may include discarding samples of the gain control input signal used in computing the gain control metric for a first duration when a large power swing in the gain control input signal is detected.

  • Patent number: 8886167
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique to enable a communication node to acquire predetermined newer information (e.g., configuration information) held by another communication node while minimizing power consumption by communication nodes. According to the technique, when receiving a request for configuration information from a new MTC device 100, a MME 220 checks whether an existing MTC device 110 as a request target for configuration information connects or not. When the existing MTC device does not connect, the new MTC device is notified of time information (e.g., next connection time of the existing MTC device, a next connection time of a new MTC device or a next connection time zone of the new MTC device). This time information enables the new MTC device to specify a time after the MME acquires and holds the configuration information from the existing MTC device. The new MTC device reconnects based on this time information, whereby the new MTC device can acquire desired configuration information from the MME.

  • Patent number: 8874027
Abstract: A method for controlling gain in a wireless repeater implementing echo cancellation determines a signal-to-interference-noise-ratio (SINR) of the input and output signals of the repeater and adjusts the gain of the repeater to optimize an achievable data rate and a coverage area of the repeater. The repeater gain may be decreased to increase the data rate and increase the achievable SINR of the output signal while the coverage area is reduced. Alternately, the repeater gain may be increased to decrease the data rate and decrease the achievable SINR of the output signal while the coverage area is increased.

  • Patent number: 8874153
Abstract: Interference to a received signal is reduced in a wireless network, the interference comprising intermodulation products of at least a first signal and a second signal. Delayed interference signals comprising simulated intermodulation products are generated on the basis of the first signal and the second signal using a range of differing delay values and each of the delayed interference signals is correlated with the received signal to produce data representing a correlation for each delayed interference signal. At least one delay value is selected in dependence on a the data representative of the correlations and an interference signal comprising simulated intermodulation products generated from the first signal and the second signal using the at least one delay value is combined with the received signal.

  • Patent number: 8867987
Abstract: A method for computing a gain control metric used in controlling gain in a wireless repeater operates to store correlation and normalization values associated with the gain control metric for the previous N samples in registers. For each new sample of the gain control input signal, the correlation and normalization values are computed by discarding the multiplication terms of the obsolete sample and adding the multiplication terms of the new sample to the stored correlation and normalization values. In this manner, the complexity of the computation is greatly reduced and the complexity of the computation does not increase with the integration length.

  • Patent number: 8868123
Abstract: The present disclosure sets forth multiple embodiments of the invention. Among those embodiments is a method for managing the power of an uplink signal (e.g., an LTE PUSCH or PUCCH). The method involves determining a convolution of a first function and a second function (which may be power density functions) of the uplink signal and determining the power of the uplink signal based on the convolution. The uplink signal comprises one or both of a data signal (transmitted over a PUSCH, for example) and a control signal (transmitted over a PUSCH or PUCCH, for example). The uplink signal is transmitted over one or more subcarriers (which may be carried by resource blocks, for example).

  • Patent number: 8855583
Abstract: Terminals 1 and 2-1 to 2-n refer to information on the state of the terminals 1 and 2-1 to 2-n and a user to add functions for modifying the operation of the terminal and processing data thereby allowing the operation of the terminal to be modified, and the communication data to be processed, when the state information is in a specific condition. A server 3 accesses the information on the state of the terminals 1 and 2-1 to 2-n and the user on the side of the server 3, extracts terminal group information under a specific condition, generates a new group, and adds a presence linking function for performing registration with a group management function, thereby allowing the above state information to be used to generate a dynamic group.

  • Patent number: 8849185
Abstract: Methods and systems to produce audio output signals from audio input signals. In one embodiment, a first portion of the audio input signals can be pre-processed, with the output used to modulate ultrasonic carrier signals, thereby producing modulated ultrasonic signals. The modulated ultrasonic signals can be transformed into a first portion of the audio output signals, which is directional. Based on a second portion of the audio input signals, a standard audio speaker can output a second portion of the audio output signals. Another embodiment further produces distortion compensated signals based on the pre-processed signals. The distortion compensated signals can be subtracted from the second portion of the audio input signals to generate inputs for the standard audio speaker to output the second portion of the audio output signals. In yet another embodiment, noise can be added during pre-processing of the first portion of the audio input signals.

  • Patent number: 8831671
Abstract: A small base node such as a Home Base Node (HNB), or femto cell, may reduce its transmit power in order to prevent co-channel or adjacent channel interference, or to limit its coverage area. Once the power is set, the HNB signal to a served Home User Equipment (HUE) its transmit Common Pilot Channel (CPICH) transmit power for accurate path loss estimation. When this power is outside of the permissible range, the HNB adjusts other parameters (such as Random Access Channel (RACH) constant value) to compensate for the error in signaled CPICH power, and thus compensate in that process the error in determining path loss. Similarly, if the uplink sensitivity is adjusted, to prevent interference, parameters would also be adjusted and signaled to the HUE to reflect the link imbalance.

  • Patent number: 8825102
Abstract: Systems and methods for regulating transmit power in a mobile station to comply with SAR limits are disclosed. A mobile station may include a processor, transmitter, and proximity sensor. The transmitter is configured to operate at a transmit power controlled by a first transmit power limit. The proximity sensor identifies how close the mobile station is to a human head. A transmit power regulator, implemented on the processor, determines the cumulative energy radiated by the transmitter over a specified number of frames. If the cumulative energy exceeds an energy limit based on a SAR limit, and the proximity sensor indicates that the mobile station is close to a human head, the transmit power regulator may decrease the transmit power limit of the transmitter.
