Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and signal-bearing medium are provided that in an embodiment morph between two graphical views of related content that share a common frame of reference. In an embodiment, the two views depict the same data at different resolutions. The morphing permits the viewer to visualize the relationship between the two views along a common axis or within a common frame of reference. In another embodiment, the two views may be a clip view and an timeline view. In the clip view, icons representing clips are the same size. In the timeline view, icons representing clips have a size proportional to the time of the clip when played. A virtual playhead icon is maintained in the same relative position in both views, so that a user's focus is maintained.

Abstract: A system, method, and program product for instantiating and executing a bot on an interface system are disclosed. A bot is an agent for the user and includes an animated visual personification. The system includes an interface system including a graphical user interface, a system for instantiating a bot and displaying the bot on the graphical user interface, and a command processing system for causing the bot to execute one of a plurality of actions in response to a user command. The plurality of actions includes at least one local capability and at least one remote capability. The at least one remote capability also includes a system for transferring the bot to a second interface at a remote location.

Abstract: Systems and methods for use in enabling a user to select one or more data objects from a plurality of data nodes. The method includes determining a data set of interest from one or more data sets. The data set of interest is depicted as a primary node in an available data node area, and one or more data nodes within the data set of interest are depicted as available data nodes within the available data node area. A selection of an available data node is received. When the selected available data node is a data object, the selected available data node is depicted as a selected data node in a selected data node area. When the selected available data node is a data set, the selected available data node is depicted in the available data node area as a secondary data node subordinate to the primary data node.

Abstract: A display control apparatus includes an input unit configured to be operated to change the display state of a plurality of content items displayed on a display screen, a circling detector configured to detect a circling operation, detect the circling direction and number of revolutions thereof, and also determine an area enclosed by the circling operation to be a selection area, a content item search unit configured to search the plurality of content items for relevant content items that correspond to position information included inside the selection area, and a content display quantity adjuster configured to display or hide the relevant content items according to the circling direction, and in the case of a plurality of relevant content items, determine the number of relevant content items to display or hide from among the relevant content items on the basis of the number of revolutions.

Abstract: An exemplary file manipulation method determines whether the user manipulation on the file or file folder is a moving manipulation. The method then reads a directory structure of each drive from a storage unit when detecting that the user manipulation on the file or file folder is the moving manipulation, determines a maximum folder depth of the directory structure of the one or more drives, and further controls to display a user interface showing the directory structure with the maximum folder depth. Next, the method detects the user manipulation in the user interface, and determines a position where the icon is dragged to is a target position when detecting that the user manipulation is dragging the icon to the position in the ring portion of the sector. The method then moves the manipulated file or file folder to a target drive or file folder corresponding to the target position.

Abstract: Data defining several different information-carrying patterns can be stored on mass storage of a computer workstation and serve as a library of design elements for future designs. The same user-interface techniques that are employed to pick colors in image-editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop) and fill textures in presentation programs (e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint) can similarly be used to present a palette of information patterns to a security document designer. Clicking on a visual representation of the desired pattern makes the pattern available for inclusion in a security document being designed (e.g. filling a desired area). A great variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

Abstract: A system and method of enabling a user to customize a layout of a video display uses a data file. The data file may be stored within an application. The data file enables the user to specify at least one parameter of a cell of a video display such as, for example, a location, height, width, and display percentage. A layout creating module creates the layout based on the parameter(s) defined by the user. A dynamic icon creating module dynamically creates an icon that represents the layout created by the user. Preferably, the icon depicts the layout of created by the user.

Abstract: A method for adjusting parameters of an audio device is provided and applied to an adjusting system operated by a user to adjust the audio device. The method includes steps of: executing an application program with the adjusting system; the application program providing a graphical user interface for receiving data wherein the graphical user interface at least includes a plurality of options to be selected; and adjusting a plurality of parameters of the audio device associated with a first option when the first option of the plurality options is selected and outputting a sound by the audio device.

Abstract: A customizable dialog box. The customizable dialog box can include a primary display region and at least one secondary display region activatable from the primary display region. One or more user input fields can be disposed in the at least one secondary display region. Similarly, one or more selection controls can be disposed in the at least one secondary display region. In that regard, each one of the selection controls can correspond to one of the user input fields. Finally, at least one primary user input field can be disposed in the primary display region. Specifically, the at least one primary user input field can include a user input field in the secondary display region whose corresponding selection control has been activated.

Abstract: A system indirectly infers concepts associated with a document. The concepts may be indirectly inferred based on information that does not include characteristics of the document, such as the characteristics that include a textual content of the document not associated with links included in the document, a domain of the document, and the document's Uniform Resource Locator (URL). The system may label the inferred concepts as useful to an audience of the document.

Abstract: A system and method for generating an information stream summary using a display metric is provided. An information stream including a plurality of information stream items is received. A display metric is calculated for each of the plurality of information stream items. The information stream items are grouped into one or more summary objects. A size is assigned to each of the one or more summary objects and the one or more summary objects are displayed based on the assigned size.

A first communications client of a first user detects a change in the presence status of a first user and sends an alert message to a second communications client of a second user.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs for controlling a device without requiring visual contact are presented. One method includes an operation for identifying available options for a user according to a state of a program executing on a device, where the available options correspond to possible menu items. Further, the method provides an audible output of the available options and the detection of a touch-based input, where the input is received at the device without providing an identifiable visual cue to the user. Further yet, the method includes operations for determining the selected option from the available options based on the timing of the input relative to the audible output, and for performing the selected option by the computer program. In another method, the options are presented to the user via different vibration patterns or via vibrations of a second device connected to the device.

Abstract: Improved approaches to allow a portable electronic device to dynamically present location-specific information while the portable electronic device is at a predetermined location are disclosed. In one embodiment, the portable electronic device has a display that can display the location-specific information and has wireless capabilities for use in receiving the location-specific information from the server. The location-specific information can, for example, augment other information that is to be presented on the display. In one embodiment, the location-specific information can be information pertaining to a media item being played in an establishment, such as a store, where the portable electronic device is located.

Abstract: A communication apparatus which facilitates inline comments includes a client processing unit and an electronic memory device. The client processing unit receives an electronic communication and generates a reply communication for response to the electronic communication in an inline comment mode. The reply communication includes a copy of original content from the electronic communication. The electronic memory device is coupled to the client processing unit. The electronic memory device stores a plurality of inline comment rules. The inline comment rules facilitate adjoining comment content to the copy of original content within the reply communication according to user commands. The comment content is uniquely identified from standard response content according to the inline comment rules in effect during the inline comment mode.

In accordance with a system, a first mobile electronic device having a first processor, a first short-range communications subsystem coupled to the first processor, and a first display coupled to the first processor; and a second mobile electronic device having a second processor, a second short-range communications subsystem coupled to the processor, a long-range communications subsystem coupled to the processor and operable to couple to a content server via a communication network, and a second display coupled to the second processor, wherein a short-range wireless connection is established between the first and second short-range communications subsystems of the first and second mobile electronic devices.

Abstract: A requirement statement manipulation system is configured to create and edit requirement statements of various types. The requirement statement manipulation system may generate an interactive visual environment to receive input used in manipulating a requirement statement through creation or editing. The interactive visual environment may include specific requirement-type interfaces allowing requirement statements of a specific type to be manipulated. The interactive visual environment may manipulate requirement statements based on textual input, as well as through text generation.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatus to present recipe progress status information are disclosed. A disclosed example method involves displaying a user interface screen associated with a recipe being executed in a process control system. The recipe includes a plurality of process phases. A plurality of process stage progress indicator are displayed in the user interface screen in an arrangement representative of the process flow of the recipe. Each of the process stage progress indicators is representative of at least one of the process phases of the recipe. A first one of the process stage progress indicators is indicative of a progress of at least one of the process phases. The first process stage progress indicator is updated in substantially real-time based on information received from the process control system.

Abstract: A system and method for the organization, display, and navigation of digital information. The system and method allow for easy navigation of primary search results responsive to a search request, as well as navigation of secondary information related to the primary search results. In an example embodiment, primary search results are displayed as web page images. A user may select an image from the primary search results and view the web page in an operational window. Information from a web site associated with the selected page is used to populate a site item area of the screen comprising items from the web site responsive to the search criteria. When an item is selected from the site item area, information related to the item is displayed to the user. Selected items are used to populate an item history area while selected web pages are used to populate a search history area.
