  • Patent number: 8375301
Abstract: A digital networked studio and the needed software services to allow the use of the system for monitoring the creation and distribution processes of real-time created content is described. Distribution problems are solved using an off-the-shelf network, e.g. using an IP based or similar data protocol, such as an IP network based distributed system architecture to bring the display controller functionality closer to the source and to replace proprietary busses used for transporting video, audio, RGB, graphical information and/or metadata with building blocks based on standard IP and compression technologies. A characteristic of such a network is to use unicast, multicast and/or broadcast technologies (based on network addresses) and to route data from one address to another. The network provides redundancy in case any of the digital generation units.

  • Patent number: 8370756
Abstract: Presence information of a first user in a messaging system, such as an instant messaging system, is relayed to a second user. A first communications client of a first user detects a change in the presence status of a first user and sends an alert message to a second communications client of a second user. Moreover, systems and methods are provided for sending the alert message to an alternate address, including alternate instant messaging (IM) addresses, e-mail address, or telephone numbers, in the event that the intended recipient of the alert message is not accessible at his or her original IM address.

  • Patent number: 8347215
Abstract: One or more users may interact simultaneously with different applications on the same device through an input system such as a touch-sensitive display screen. Simultaneous user input may be detected by a multiple input system and subsequently transmitted to an application using a single transmission frame. An application corresponding to the user input is determined based on an input location of the user input and a location and size of a corresponding application. Simultaneous user inputs are rendered simultaneously by each corresponding application. Each application may further include a secondary event processing thread that runs in parallel to traditional operating system event threads. The secondary event processing thread bypasses sequential processing limits of an operating system event thread, providing substantially simultaneous processing of input.

  • Patent number: 8341553
Abstract: A user selection interface system comprises one or more rotatable selectors linked to selectable characteristics, and a display linked to the selectors, for display of an image that corresponds to the selected characteristics. The interface is typically linked to a database comprising stored image and other information which corresponds to the selectable characteristics, whereby an image that corresponds to an item which meets a selected characteristic is retrieved and displayed. Information other than the image which corresponds to the selectable characteristics may also be retrieved and displayed. In some embodiments, the stored images comprise a single image, which matches all the selected characteristics. In alternate embodiments, the displayed image comprises a composite image that is based upon stored images which correspond to different selected characteristics. In some embodiments, the user selection interface comprises a graphic user interface.

  • Patent number: 8335988
Abstract: A method of producing graphically enhanced data communications. The method comprises receiving a datalink text message, parsing the datalink text message into message components, and identifying the message components capable of graphical enhancement by using rules for applying graphical enhancements. The method further comprises retrieving appropriate graphic components from a graphics library corresponding to the identified message components using the rules for applying graphical enhancements, and assembling the graphic components into a composite graphic presentation using rules for assembling graphics. The datalink text message is then combined with the composite graphic presentation for display.

  • Patent number: 8245147
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, computer-implemented methods, and tangible computer-readable storage media for customizing a user interface. The method displays an interface to a user. In the interface, a slice has interface elements, a stack has a group of slices, a window has a group of stacks, and each interface element is associated with a segment of a highly structured document. The interface includes a panel having one or more containers, each container representing one stack, and one or more tokens, each token representing one slice. The method relocates at least one token to a different location in the container based on user input, displays in the panel a preview based on the relocated token, generates a user interface workflow based on the one or more containers and the relocated token, and displays the generated user interface workflow.

  • Patent number: 8234582
Abstract: A visualization service generates a graphical representation or visualization of each user's behavior within a network resource, such as a website. In one example, the visualization service provides a dynamic visualization of each user accessing the network resource. Each user is graphically represented in the visualization with an indicium, such as a point or dot. The visualization (and thus, the position of each indicium representing a user) is dynamically updated as each user accesses data files from the network resource and thus, moves from state to state (or page to page) over time. The effect is similar to watching cars move along a complex highway system.

  • Patent number: 8151193
Abstract: Visual images of computer components are provided to remotely guide users through the process of setting up physical connections. Component identifying information is automatically gleaned and provided from a user's computer to a remote administrator. The administrator provides visual images of the components to the user, and remotely annotates them to guide the user through the configuration process. Image annotation can include pointing to a specific section of the image (e.g., the plug into which a cable is to be inserted) and/or drawing or writing on or otherwise marking-up the image to direct the user's attention. The visual image-based guidance can be supplemented by voice communication with the user.

  • Patent number: 8136041
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for playing a musical composition in an audible and visual manner. In one aspect, a visual representation of a phonograph playing an analog record is transmitted to a viewer/listener along with the actual analog audio generated by same. Such transmission may occur via television networks, the Internet, or other similar networks. In another aspect, such visual representations are played with digitally recorded audio in a time-correlated manner. In yet another aspect, such visual representations are recorded with digital audio in a soft format such as a digital file, MP3 file, or the like for use with portable audio and visual devices, for streaming via the Internet, for use in gaming, and/or for use as software. Such visual representations may also be displayed at live events such that the timing of the video play and the performance of the live or recorded audio is correlated.

  • Patent number: 8122371
Abstract: Criterion-based feedback allows users to provide useful information in a quick and easy to understand fashion. When information for an item is relayed to a user, the user is provided with the ability to provide feedback for any criteria relating to the item. In some embodiments, this feedback takes the form of a submission of a response to a question or statement pertaining to a criterion for the item. The user is able to create new responses if the existing responses do not adequately convey the feedback that the users wishes to submit. Further, a user can also submit entirely new questions and/or statements, along with corresponding new responses, that correspond to a criterion relating to the item. Such an approach provides flexibility for users to quickly and easily provide feedback on specific criteria that might be useful for other users viewing information for that item.

  • Patent number: 8086969
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method (60) for providing a graphical user interface. The proposed method (60) for graphical user interface includes generating an application window (10) containing a plurality of controls (12-34). A first user input (64-72) is received for selecting an area (36) within the application window (10). A group of controls (18-34) are then identified, among the plurality of controls (12-34), which are included within the selected area (36). A second user input (76) is received to enter a value in one of the controls (18) in the identified group of controls (18-34). The same value is then updated in the remaining controls (20-34) in the identified group of controls.

  • Patent number: 8046700
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide techniques for providing information for avoiding specific users of an immersive virtual environment. Generally, a primary user may specify other users to be avoided in a blacklist. The blacklisted users may be specified to be avoided at all times, or may be specified to be avoided in certain situations. In one embodiment, a user may be added to the blacklist during a specific situation, resulting in the characteristics of the situation being automatically stored in the blacklist. Subsequently, the blacklist may be used to determine the locations of the blacklisted users matching the current situation. The primary user may then avoid the locations having the greatest probability of encountering blacklisted users.
